Xbox multi platform discussion

Yeah something along those lines that way you don’t upset the Xbox console userbase too much

It took me a while but I’ve decided to still take advantage of Game Pass but move individual purchases to my PS5. I had a PS4 from 2013-2018 so I do have a sizable library there, even though it obviously has its gaps now. Xbox back then lured me back with their promise for exclusive WRPGs and the awesome backwards compatibility program. If the console-PC hybrid is real and at a much more affordable cost than those mini PCs you see out there (like the Minisforum Atomman G7 PT), I might rethink this again. I have a PS5 already so the cost for me to go to PC is a lot higher despite Play Anywhere. I also just like the simplicity of a console and it’s just my way to play.

Aren’t you worried about PlayStations future compatibility ?

I’d say it’s risky to assume that PS6 even supports PS4.

I can understand why some might start transitioning to PC but PS, especially after announcing a $700 console which doesnt bode well for the future of their next console prices

That seems…misguided to say the least

Well it always depends on personal circumstances. I have a PS5 already but I don‘t have a gaming PC, which makes the hardware cost a big differentiator. And I have many games from my PS4 years 2013-2018 and PS Plus in my library already. If I started from zero, I‘d agree with you, but that‘s not the case. I‘ll still play on Xbox with Game Pass, I just won‘t make third party purchases there anymore and I‘m not going to wait for some late ports to come over. I‘ll still root for Xbox to find success. If they do the PC hybrid with more open storefronts, I might reconsider in two years.

I wouldn’t lock yourself into one system. Take advantage of sales and buy where it is cheapest since you have both consoles. Also remember GP gives you discounts on games so you don’t pay full price when buying to own.

There are obviously advantages to having most of your stuff in one ecosystem for convenience that’s for sure. I dropped Sony after PS3 and have been a Nintendo/Xbox/PC owner since and I haven’t looked back. The commitment to backwards compatibility from MS and them reiterating that generation after generation and following through with it is why I’ve prioritized them. The rumoured new Xbox being more of a PC with other storefronts being compatible gives me even more hope of a single, all encompassing gaming storefront from MS that will support older gens on PC hardware (speculation on my part here). This is something I don’t see Sony ever doing and them pivoting in this currently changing landscape seems less likely to be successful as MS who already seems to be deep in that transition and actually anticipated it.

Just my opinion of course, everyone free to spend their money however they like, this is just my gut feeling.

This is why I thought Capcom originally not porting over classic fighters to the Xbox was an shortsighted move.

There were rumors about the Switch 2’s odd BC situation and the manner in which PlayStation has to achieve BC is really constrictive.

The whole reason why #FreeMvC2 existed was because of the lack of BC and store presence. These are things that Xbox has figured out and will remain going forward barring a complete 180 on their plans.

Right. PlayStation has done it as recently as the PSVR to PSVR2. And Nintendo from WiiU to Switch.

I bought thousands of dollars worth of digital Wii and PS3 games. PlayStation and Nintendo are not to be trusted. Only Xbox and Steam can be trusted.

Thankfully I kept my digital purchases on Nintendo and Sony systems at a minimum and bought everything I wanted from them on physical (and I sold those PS4 games with no problem when I sold my PS4 a few years ago).

Also I only bought exclusives on PS3 so all the multiplatform games from that generation are all on 360 which is great now with how good BC is on Xbox…not investing in Playstation really paid off in the end.

Yeah, but PS3 and Wii era digital was brand new. Both PlayStation and Nintendo leaned heavily into the back catalogue so suckers like me bought lots of retro games thinking they would carry forward. I’m bitter and I hold a grudge against PlayStation and Nintendo still.

I think as OG gamers we owe it to the new generation to warn them about Sony and Nintendo.

Fool me once…

I feel like the left arm of Xbox needs to be talking to the right arm at this point, there is far too much mixed messaging on the matter as things currently stand

It’s corpo speak, designed to sound like something but commit to nothing.

Also even with the few games going to PlayStation too, it’s undeniable that Xbox has a lot more first party exclusives in the pipeline at the moment than PlayStation does (particularly when it comes to announced stuff).

Some gamers seem to forget how massive Xbox is now with all those studios…

It seems pretty clear to me that we’ll see many Xbox esclusive in the near future and at the same time, different titles Will coming to PS and Nintendo

Just generally speaking, major 3rd parties don’t guarantee all of their games will be on all platforms so why should MS make any such definitive statement?

As far as I see it either this experiment works or it doesn’t. If it does work, Sony will end up following along just like they always do. If not MS/Xbox can just revert back to the old exclusives model.

I feel a bit out of place because I have a first edition xbox one not the s or x like everyone else so when i see an xbox discussion i’m guessing most are speaking of s or x routes. However I will say that xb1 is AWESOME---- I do wish there were more “shared” titles instead of being exlcusive to just one platform.

The Issue is Microsoft is not being straight with their fans and consumers base and that sucks. It’s horrible when members of parliament do it and it’s not much better when a gaming corp wouldn’t give straight answers to straight questions

Along with Xbox’s poor and almost non-existent PR. Little wonder Xbox’s brand image is so far behind its competitors
