Because developers don’t control shit for the most part - they might want as many people as possible to play their games, but it’s the publisher that does the deals and funds it all so gets to make the calls.
It’s often why we hear of so many developers pissed at their publishers - see the whole Sinking City saga, the fact People Can Fly still haven’t received a penny in returns for Outriders, and Bungie, IOI and many other teams going independent
Reprehensible? Oh please. The game they created is going to reach a wider audience and make more money, of course they’re going to be happy about that.
Especially during a time where layoffs and studio closures have been plaguing the industry.
I doubt thats the case given its measured against the gains of Playstations sold vs Xbox not sold because it has no exclusives. I noticed Concorde just launched to several hundred million devices. Hows that doing?
Can’t remember a time when it wasnt…and yet Phil says the Xbox market has never been stronger apparently, which is at odds with their actions.
The game is objectively reaching a wider audience, in that it is being sold on a platform that gives it an extra ~60M user base to market to. I’m not quite sure what you’re arguing… that the number of sales on PS5 won’t make up for the number of sales they’ll lose on Xbox by no longer being exclusive?
The Concord comparison is an incredible strawman argument. You’re using a game that has flopped because of a lack of interest in it, and using that to argue that developers should in fact release their games on fewer platforms?
Correct. The brand has been irreparably tarnished and trust broken.
When Phil Spencer says “we arent going to bring all games over” it means nothing, because a few years ago he already claimed that nigh on everything were for game pass platforms only.
Pretty much proof that “more gamers” isnt a silver bullet to make a game successful.
The right gamers are. In this case the right gamers are Xbox gamers, PC, Xbox and cloud derivitive.
Indy will do fine on Xbox and shitty on PS5 because its late. Just as Sea of Thieves did.
Will Xbox get the message? Doubtful. They will push for day and date releases on PS5 and Switch 2 and try to shame their once loyal fans by asking why I would want fewer people to play them.
Says more about the state of PS5 game sales IMO. 4 months. 170m “more people” 1 million copies.
It awful no matter what way you slice it.
The same audience who claimed Starfield would sell gangbusters on PS5 are the same ones who didnt buy Final Fantasy 16/ Rebirth. There isnt really an RPG market on Playstation.
There isnt really a market for Indiana Jones on Playstation either, as we shall all see.
Okay first of all, 170m console sales combined for PS4 and PS5 does not mean there are 170m currently active PlayStation users to sell games to. I’d imagine there’s a very strong overlap there for a start.
I get they might want that but them getting pissed off about it releasing only certain platforms and making a noise about it is wrong. They are employed to produce games for Microsoft they pay their wages.
If they don’t like by all means leave, but whilst ever they are happy to take the wage from Microsoft then they should stop moaning about it
No disrespect but what level of discus do you seek. I hate to say it but it begins to sound like you’re stifling people’s opinion which you’re allowed to do. If people are not insulting each other shouldn’t they be allowed to speculate or express their opinions or thoughts on a subject.
I think if there is something wrong here feel free to just close the topic as it’s no longer a rumor but a discus on strategy.
As said no disrespect but when you say or slow things down it sounds like a threat to just outright stifling.
Think it’s more when people just start attacking developers or each other rather than actually discussing the strategy - the Indy news has played out so nothing new is really being said at this point, we’re all just waiting for more news either way
“Its what the devs wanted” is just another guilt trip from Xbox leadership to defer the fallout from the strategy change.
At no point is a developers feelings ever considered about what platforms at Sony or Nintendo or Disney or Netflix support. Through good times and bad.
Miyamoto would be told to fuck off if he wanted to put Wii Music on another console
Xbox was about exclusives for 22 years until they weren’t.
Im genuinely sick of this companys toothless doormat attitude thats plagued the Xbox division since they bought Minecraft.
Only a matter of time before Phil drops the “We love our Playstation customers” in an interview while Sony spends that Indy 30% on delaying more Xbox games.
It’s more “MS loves money” than them being “toothless doormats”. MS can be pretty ruthless when they want to be. They give zero fucks about the current xbox customer base and that’s all there is to it. Anything they’ve said up to this point is lip service , just like the “when we all play we all win” line .(or guilt tripping any xbox fans who aren’t fond of the new direction. )
The "one more thing " moment at Gamescom pretty much told me what time it was when it comes to how they view their “fans”. It is what it is as they say.
I have nothing against Xbox’s leadership, Phil is doing what he supposed to do. Make the company money. ( I still think at the end of the day this is at least 90% Satya and Amy Hood more than the Xbox division) So doing Tim Dog like sperg outs or calling Phil a POS is pointless. But if you choose not to take anything he says at face value from this point on that is 100% OK.
Id agree if the difference was Sea of Thieves going from 40 to 60 million vs 41m.
All of this is true. I cant get behind this kind of company anymore. Particulaly with Machine games leadership freaking out over finally coming to PS5.
I get that and thinking a warning is fine. In any case I do agree that the main topic is done, and the discus now seems to be about Xbox strategy which I think merits its own thread.
My reason for asking is I honestly wanted to know, and I think topics like this should be thoroughly discussed as I would imagine forums like this can and might be used by Xbox in data gathering.
