Xbox multi platform discussion

Yeah, Tom Warren said there are games that they are not considering. Probably stuff like Fable or Gears if I had to guess.

I think they need some new flagships. Avowed and Clockwork Revolution can be one but we have to wait for the results alongside South of Midnight.

I just to not know if Starfield can be considered one, but that’s my opinion piece.

If your ecosystem is the product than that is what should entice your users.

Personally, I believe that the sooner they rip the band aid off, the better. It’s what Microsoft is obviously working towards so they should just announce it and get it over with already.

Yeah, it’s called Redfall.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. lol

I believe if they want to reduce the negative impacts they will have to slow roll it. People will slowly get used to the idea and by the time next gen rolls around a good chunk of the audience will accept it. Right now nobody knows enough to reliably sell their console and switch to PS5, only PC is REALLY an option with the information we have today.

If they came and ribbed the band aid off right now, people would leave in droves. At worst right now they are ‘only subscribing to Game Pass’. It also buys them time to really have the first party machine rolling and make a more compelling case for Game Pass.

I don’t know I do agree ripping the band aid off might be scary for them, but they cannot keep on with this messaging. No one is really accepting as they aren’t saying anything and every time, they say something it’s cryptic. They need to get a message out that works with the direction they’re taking otherwise they would be defined in the wrong way again like Xbox one where they let the social media define them. They are not marketing Game Pass which they’re trying to use as their standard. Today I was surprised even some of the Xbox influencers seemed so beat up. Indy should be the talk, but it isn’t, and you can bet to expect this in even bigger strides when Keighley has the Game Awards. This is why I said this move should have been linked with the handheld or hybrid console as then it makes more sense. Right now, the gloom and doom is even bigger than the one from earlier in the year.
Where is the Gamescom excitement now.

They’re probably too afraid to make that move. I still believe they want to keep from saying too much as this strategy might still be subject to change for them. They’re usually quick to institute changes. I would just think they should at least get or attach some clear messaging to this.

I think slow rolling it is worse because it leaves potential consumers and fans in an indifferent feeling as opposed to positive or negative which can always be reversed but indifferent means eventually that the individual simply won’t care because they won’t have the interest, emotion or passion for the product/brand/etc. I think if this is still going by next gen, I see more people leaving then joining but if you rip the band aid off now and they’re still hanging around by the time next gen arrives, there’s a better chance they stay because they didn’t leave already. People are leaving already so delaying it and having these rumors which turn into facts every few months is what will get even more people to leave.

I don’t think that buying time to get their first party games rolling will do anything because everyone knows their roadmap and you already know what you’re getting and that it will all be on Game Pass. For those who aren’t interested in Game Pass, there’s no reason to stay now so ripping off the band aid isn’t changing anything for those people.

More than anything, I believe that majority will simply get sick and tired of rumors turned facts every few months and there always being a negative aurora surrounding the brand to where they just throw their hands up in the air and say screw it because they’ve had enough.

I believe that most just want a clear direction and message which Microsoft isn’t going to do because even they don’t know what they want to do and are all over the place which is worse than anything because there’s no certainty which is what people want the most.

Just wanted to quote this because I said this back in February. With Microsoft’s direction, the above is exactly what it’s going to be every time. The conversation isn’t going to be about the game itself (like Indiana Jones or Doom The Dark Ages this past June) but about, what game is next? Or the Xbox brand is dying? Or this or that. It’s what every conversation is going to be until Microsoft makes it clear and since they probably won’t, it will just get worse.

I think they should publicly say what it is internally. Are games going to be day and date on competing consoles? Six/Twelve months later? Or a game by game basis? Majority want clarity and Microsoft isn’t giving that to their fan base and consumers in general which is worse than just coming out and saying what it is.

Being open, honest and upfront about everything they want to do will piss off a lot of people but at that point, they KNOW what the deal is and can go from there. Not knowing is always worse than knowing.

The games come out on Xbox and some might hot other platforms. Not sure what else needs to be said

I simply believe that Microsoft should be more honest about the direction they’re going in and I don’t see anything wrong with that. Microsoft knows what they’re doing so just say it. That’s all.

Nobody else does that

Every business is different. For me I just think there needs to be some kind of messaging behind this that consumers can fall back on rather than letting social media be the ones doing the messaging which comes out as doom and Gloom. Also businesses tell their consumers what is going on just not how they run their business. If Google or Amazon makes a change in the way they’re operating they alert their customers about such changes, so I do think Xbox could do similar. It just feels bad to see them being choked out.

I’m seeing a lot of confused people online and these aren’t bad faith actors, they are genuine Xbox fans.

I don’t think MS are above criticism for how they’ve rolled this out. And I’m saying MS and not Xbox because I am certain that a lot of people at Xbox would know how to roll all of this out better. When I say “all of this” I mean the whole multi-platform strategy.

There was a way to achieve nearly the same goals without confusing or even angering some portion of the Xbox fan base. A way to do this without confusing people looking at buying a new console in the next couple years.

My perspective is going to be a little bit different than everyone else’s because I have a personal interest in seeing the Xbox consoles selling well. I’m okay with a third place Xbox but what we’re seeing now is that they’re not even trying to be competitive.

In a year where Xbox could have had the best lineup they’ve ever had in their history to entice gamers to jump in, we may see Xbox console sales tank?

Again, I have no problem with what they’re doing but how they’re doing it. It’s like a friend telling you that they’re planning to lose 30 lbs and you’re like “great, how do you plan to do it?” and they tell you that they’re going to chop their right leg off. There’s a way that Microsoft could make a lot of money with a multi-platform strategy and still sell boatloads of Xboxes and make it a highly sought-after machine. But they’re sacrificing one for the other.

I don’t like that, at all.

I see a lot of coping tbh, i.e. attempts to rationalize the bad business situation the Xbox consoles are in via painting a rosy gaming future without consoles (or at least where consoles take a backseat compared to the main business).

We haven’t seen that though. The gaming industry is mobiles, pc, consoles & streaming. Those are the platforms.

Streaming is a long, long way off being anywhere near the here & now. PC is PC. It’s a market in & of itself. It’s not the ‘future’ because it’s always been there. Xbox could have gone full PC ten years ago, or 20 years ago for that matter. It’s not a new market. Mobiles meanwhile aren’t the same gamers.

That leaves consoles. And yes, it’s a huge market with Sony & Nintendo dominating. If Xbox further deteriorates their consoles offerings via making sure PS5 owners get the best of both worlds (Sony’s exclusives + Xbox’s releases… whilst Xbox owners only get Xbox games), then I don’t see how this will end well for Xbox.

It has third party multiplatform publisher written all over it, maybe with niche hardware for the hardcore but the bulk of Xbox’s business if they continue down this path will be as a multiplatform publisher. And in that world, people might as well just skip the Xbox consoles entirely.

Amen brother, you said it.

Also its like folks forget what happens when Playstation or Nintendo do not have any competition. Increase in price for hardware and games.

Like do folks really want that? Like seriously?

It doesn’t benefit how they run their business, and hasn’t made them less money so no they won’t change their “case by case” messaging no matter how many people on Twitter cry about a gaming hobby. :person_shrugging:t6:

Also, folks, stop pretending it’s the “messaging” to sound nuanced when it’s really you don’t like the direction Xbox is going with their multiplatform strategy.

The majority isn’t even aware of any of this, never mind cares about it. You really need to stop focusing on the internet console warriors. It’s not good for you.
