Xbox multi platform discussion

Forums are the closest I get to game related social media. Unless it’s news, the the rest of it provides absolutely no value. Twitter is basically a cesspool of toxicity.

I don’t think there’s anything too crazy about what I said. Xbox missed on the launch of a gigantic success with BG3 last year and now it happens again.

Obviously more people would have bought it for PC and PS5, but Xbox isn’t taking part in the success now. It is what it is.

Given the by country player splits, (which doesnt erase tat WuKong is very successful), Xbox which is very US concentrated is much less impacted by this than the gross numbers suggest.

ETA: but yeah, people csnt predict runaway successes (see palworld, helldivers 2) which is why a more open platform could work.

Microsoft not getting Black Myth Wukong at launch is a minimal loss as that game was always going to do best on PC (like the vast majority of games) and sales on PlayStation 5 don’t seem to be all that high or impressive. Overall, I have seen rumors that it might have sold over 4m copies in 24 hours which would be far better than I was expecting which was around 2m life time. Obviously, half of that is via Steam and who knows, there could be more that simply haven’t booted the game up yet on Steam or you never know, maybe it sold better on PlayStation 5 than anyone was expecting.

If that rumored number is accurate, Game Science will probably announce it before the month is over because every company always shouts off the roof tops when their numbers are good and when their numbers are bad/disappointing, they’re as quiet as a mouse.

I may give Black Myth Wukong a shot later on or wait until the Xbox port releases which will probably be early 2025 which is fine by me as I have enough new upcoming games to play.

Yeah, I recently unsubscribe from a bunch of podcasts and YouTube channels a few months ago as they just keep repeating the same old stuff and you can tell they’ve never touched an Xbox in about decade. Feels great.

I do feel that MS would be better just biting the bullet and going full 3rd instead of drip feeding… But what do I know :person_shrugging:

Some people do this for every damn game though

There’s always some issue with Xbox, whether it’s big or small and people always blow if out of proportion, every single time, it’s just games

When Wukong got delayed or whatever, I haven’t given it a second thought and have went back to playing other games

People spend way too much time worrying about the future of Xbox than they do actually playing and enjoying games

There were 1.1 million concurrent players on Steam. So it’s pretty safe to assume the vast majority of those (rumoured) 4 million players are on PC. And apparently 88% of those are from China. Which leaves us with rather modest numbers for the rest of the world and/or PS5.

Hey, traditions are important!

I also read that the game came with Nvidia cards. With that in mind it’s not too shocking that so many are playing it on PC now. I wonder if numbers are gonna go down because this isn’t a game for everyone with bosses that can last up to 3 hours apparently.

Not for Microsoft. lol

Joking aside, I’ll be honest, as long as Microsoft gives me all those benefits that I mentioned in post #84, they can release their first party games on Sony/Nintendo platforms day one for all I care. As long as they don’t take away what I care about, I don’t care what they do.

I didn’t know the game was packed in with Nvidia cards but unless you’re upgrading your PC, that would cost a shit ton more money than just buying the game so while this added some sales, I don’t see it being many.

@Staffy I just want to be clear that im not focusing on you btw, people getting too invested in this console stuff is happening all over the place and at one point I was the same, watched too many videos, followed too many pointless accounts until I stopped watching what was basically the same crap regurgitated over and over, the vast majority of which is completely ignorant on actual reality of the business

Once I stopped following those accounts and videos I became much happier, there’s really nothing to be gained by looking at that stuff, especially when it’s nearly always nonsense

It’s probably gonna be early 2025, but you never know. It did sound like the Xbox version was finished, just not optimised to their liking. It might be that it’s not a BG3 situation. It’s probably just them being a small studio, prioritising PC and console market leader. If so many other games are fine on S, then why would Game Science have issues? But who knows.

True. But that was due to a timed exclusivivty deal. Doesn’t seem to be the case here. It’s probably just the bad luck of a platform being the least popular, or it IS due to the S. We probably won’t find out.

Yeah, that would be nice if that were to happen.

Tried it, but I am too used to just checking updates on stuff now and then. It keeps pulling me back. There is good stuff on there too, for sure.

I see what you mean. For me it’s just now seeing the positive comments about the game, and some stuff looking very good (other stuff less so) makes me extra bummed out that it’s not here for Xbox. I would have bought this on day one (knowing I can refund though) but alas. I recall Larian being quite communicative on things regarding BG3 last year, hopefully Game Science won’t leave us in the dark until the last minute.

Agreed about worrying, life is too short for that. There’s plenty of amazing stuff to play on X, both coming soon and in the backlog.

It’s all good amigo! :ok_hand:t2:

Palworld wasn’t timed exclusivity, it was because PS don’t have Early Access, which Palworld was (and still is as far as I recall)

Sort of. Maybe. If the next Xbox launches with PC support, any Sony title also published on PC will de facto also be on Xbox. :man_shrugging:

(apologies if this point has already been made ad nauseum, haven’t read the full thread and don’t plan to)

Games that have issues are usually current generation only and running on Unreal Engine 5. Cross-gen/UE 4 had like no issues. Look at Hellblade 2. It’s UE 5 and it runs 30FPS on Series X. And it has black bars. And it’s environments do not have the foliage and whatnot that I see in Wukong so yeah, it’s going to take them an extra six months or so which is fine by me. Not that I have to but I can wait.

well this is a nice balm on the “all Chinese games will skip Xbox” risk
