For me, and perhaps numerous others, simply having Game Pass and all the Xbox Eccosystem benefits is enough. If there’s also additional benefits of playing Steam or EGS titles, I would be beyond estatic.
Different strokes, different folks and all that I suppose.
If you are talking about my message about MS’s optimization on either Xbox or PC from some of their latest releases, i was talking about how they could, and should get some studio to help with these, TLOU was terrible on launch too, but that wasn’t made by Nixxes, so what you said kinda strenghtens my point actually xD.
But yes, recent Sony ports on PC are better on average than MS ones sadly, both Spiderman, Horizon 2, Ratchet, and soon GoW2 i bet, are all great ports actually.
I think and said in the past when MS was releasing on PC and Xbox that they needed some studio like Nixxes or even that one Sony has that supports development from their studios, not sure how it’s called now.
Now that they will focus on more platforms, there’s even more reasons to get that, i think it would be a very good thing for all of us who play their games, be it on Xbox, PC, or wherever, it’s not being biased, didn’t even compare with Sony, just want them to make the best possible versions of their games day 1.
Not a dev, so I have no clue how this all works. However, if it’s timed for 3-6 months, then they most likely have most of the work done and possibly launch same time or delay release to early next year. Missing out on holiday sales for a PS5 version doesn’t seem that wise of an idea and if time exclusivity is that short then its better to release both at the same time since they miss out on hype/fomo cycle
I don’t think you are thinking about how upset the Xbox/PC base would be about the game getting delayed to add a PS5 port. Probably the absolute worst move they could make IMO.
Exclusivity benefits are shown to be extremely shortterm by Xbox’s leaked analysis, so 6 monthsish makes sense and itll get tons of earned media from discourse anyway
I assume this was decided before the summer showcase, So they easily could’ve given it an early 2025 date and have PS5 port ready. That was wouldn’t upset many because these stuff are most likely decided far in advance
Which in turn leads to users abandoning a platform that does not give any remote value other than gamepass, as such also being rather short term in my opinion.
if they actually give a damn they better not otherwise no one is gonna buy a damn thing from them in future within the platform. Especially casuals.
We already knew this but if this turns out to be all their games being ported then they deserve all that is gonna come out off that short term thinking process.
I feel like Satya did not learn his lesson from Windows Phone i see.
I understand your opinion on this and it makes sense to simultaneously release the game on all 3 platforms but at the same time I am sure that they are still approaching this new multiplatform strategy with some amount of caution. They are probably going to check how the 6 month exclusivity period will affect the sales on PS5 plus more importantly if and how much a move like this will affect their MAU on consoles.
I’d personally be surprised if they announce Indy for PS5 at this show - my guess would be announce it after release so you get the benefit of casuals buying Xbox to play it, while those who follow gaming media will know it’s likely coming anyway.
Basically let the leaks do the announcing rather than make it official till after Xbox / PC release.
It’s the Sony strategy - timed exclusivity, only allow other platforms to be announced after release to keep the punters guessing.
If they did go that route, if the leaks are right (still doubting quite a bit of it) I’d imagine it’s still a different game at the actual show - maybe Starfield or Hellblade 2?
Yep the truth is even between generations, most people stay where their purchases and friends are nowadays - they don’t like starting new on another ecosystem.
There will be some who’ve had both over the years, who may choose to just stick with one - but the vast majority will just stick, as they can still play CoD, Fortnite, Minecraft, FIFA / EA FC and GTA, or have an affinity for Xbox like many of us here.
However much we like them, exclusives just don’t move the needle anymore - Xbox could release a carbon copy of GTA6 and hardly anyone outside Xbox or PC would give it a fair shot, let alone ditch their purchases and friends to jump ship.
It’s why the One / PS4 generation was the one to win, as Phil has said, and why Sony have coasted with the PS5 - as most are now locked into their preferred ecosystem come what may.
It’s what Xbox is likely counting on in this strategy, and why ideas such as the lower console being a handheld, maybe having PC stores, maybe going next gen in 2026 (causing non-Xbox players to be tempted, like I was waiting for the PS3 when I gave the 360 a try) are all potentially in the strategy.
As we’re mostly locked in and banked, it’s these new strategies of meeting players where they are and disruption moves (like those ideas above) that may give Xbox the growth it desires - and we may all still win not just from great first party Xbox games but also that additional revenue will drive more great games on Game Pass…
I mean talk is cheap but today on Xbox centric twitter accounts after the “news” I’ve seen several Xbox players saying there is no point anymore in owning Xbox. It’s something I definitely disagree with, there is plenty point in owning or even getting one now. But I see plenty comments of people genuinely believing it’s a dying platform and that after this gen they’ll stop bothering with it. Remains to be seen how much of this is truly cheap talk or not.
But I’m gonna stop worrying about it and just enjoy my X and all its games. If the next gen for Xbox happens and it seems like it will, it won’t be until late 2026 and even longer to see if it’s a dying platform or not.
Truth is they’re less than 1% of the player base, if they own Xbox at all - and most enthusiasts have multiple consoles so it’s easier to jump ecosystem as they’re already using it.
Most average Joes will buy an Xbox if they’ve usually had Xbox, and PlayStation if they’ve usually had PlayStation - as both play the main games they play (CoD, FIFA, Minecraft Fortnite) and people will usually stay where their friends and purchases are (despite many of those games being cross-play and will carry your bought items and accounts across anyway).
It’s not like the 360 and before where a new generation meant leaving all your old games with your old console, and online gaming and digital purchases were in their infancy.
For context, see the poll results on this article (hit See Results on it and avoid the console warriors in the comments) - if there’s that much excitement for this game, and others that hit PS5 start to be well received, some of those gamers may even be tempted by a second console for Game Pass or to jump across in 2026, if the releases come thick and fast and they do the maths on how much they could save:
I think the test is next gen because most aren’t going to sell their console middle of a generation . This gen we’ve seen xbox lose some of it’s install base it had previous gen, and same thing might happen next gen. Plus, gamepass is tricky because we’re technically renting games, so if people are just gamepass gamers then it’s easier to mgirate since not tied to ecosystem.
