Xbox multi platform discussion

Its everything going forward, some day 1 some are timed

I don’t think that matters. They are doing well now. This is just the new strategy for them one that probably aligns with their Nextgen hybrid platform. Also this is something that could be easily changed. Right now, they have way too many games that spreading the love might not be bad. I also think if this Indy thing is indeed true it could spur PlayStation to do the same at least with spiderman since the game has nowhere else to go now.

I wish I was as optimistic as you.

I don’t think Sony is gonna do a thing. Would love to be wrong though.

Phil Spencer literally confirmed a couple of months ago that we would see more games go multiplatform so this is not a shock

I’m actually pleasantly surprised they are doing the whole timed launch exclusive. I thought they’d go day and date and leverage Gamepass as the sweetner for Xbox customers.

I think this is probably the right move going forwards. A 3 to 6 month exclusivity window feels about right. The main thing im disappointed about is December being the launch window… just don’t think thats a great month to launch.

It just doesn’t make sense, i understand Indiana Jones releasing on PS5 a few months after, but why announce it this week?

That game’s the only first party exclusive that had some strenght on Xbox after Avowed’s release, i know MS doesn’t seem to care much about console sales anymore but what do they get from saying peple will be able to play Indy on Playstation a few months after release now when the game isn’t even out?

Pre orders

Tom Henderson has weigh in and says that multiple outlets were given the info that Indy would be coming to PS5, but no one knows if it will be announced this week. According to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours

Could be anywhere from 3 months to 9 months. I’m kind of surprised it’s there to begin with, what with the financial realities of licensing from Disney etc.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Blade is shorter time window, if it even has one. It might have it just to give devs time to sort out yet another platform to release on.

So you want to overwork and crunch the devs? Or do you mean you want them the push back the PC and Xbox releases until the PS edition is ready?

You don’t know that. We don’t know that. No one except MS knows that.

The other PS5 ports were made by 3rd party studios mostly i think, plus they are making extra money from releasing their games on Sony’s platform early, they could always hire some developers to do it too.

If Sony acquired a great porting studio just to port the games a couple years after release, MS has more reasons to do it now, specially when some of their latest releases have been mediocre performance wise either on Xbox Series or on PC

Oh please…

Forza Motorsport was a crap port on PC, so it was on Series S, it should have been better on Series X too, even tho it was acceptable there.

Redfall being 30 FPS only on consoles, i would call that mediocree too.

There you have a few recent releases with mediocre performance on day 1

Ah, you were referencing 2023.

Yelp, either this is a good thing or a bad one will depend on the holidays but something tells me no else is gonna buy their console with their higher up suits like Phil salivating for Playstation users to buy their products.

The guy clearly does not care about its own userbase and quite frankly he changed for the worst for the last couple of months. Like can he not even read the room and acknowledge that by porting multiple games in consecutive order only makes users feel like their investment in the brand, whether it be from buying their exclusives or content from third party to folk’s own digital libraries possibly goes up in flames with these decisions?

We don’t know anything and its becoming quite clear Xbox higher ups have truly given up on its own hardware brand if they are sacrificing user trust to satisfy a competitor that only wishes to get rid of them for good.

That’s not a good sign and am left wondering if everything now is just gonna go to other platforms for the foreseeable future and say f you Xbox hardware fans.

Its like we are witnessing Sega’s final hooray on hardware and i do not like that at all.

Sure i could be wrong but clearly no one at Xbox wants to clear anything up to its own userbase but do so for other competitors, is that not right Phil?!

Sorry, bit of a rant over decision making and other nonsense. I would not be wounded up if Sony ported stuff over to Xbox but its Sony, they rather die that even think of porting something to Xbox.

It’s business. The fact that they are launching Lego Horizons on Switch and allowed Death Stranding to launch also on the Xbox PC app is a telling. Also, Xbox is changing the business, so they have to adapt or die. Their latest financials showed margins in their services and not their hardware or content. Publishers are struggling to sell on both hardwares only a select few are successful with more closing shop almost daily. Sony will just take their time but I almost think in a year or two you’ll be seeing this happen unless they figure out a way to sell software and maximize engagement.

Oh please. You’re being overly dramatic. They have indicated they have another generation of hardware consoles are coming.

This is a funny discussion because Sony has had some horrendous PC releases that made actual headlines based on how bad they were. (TLOU Remake). Some of you are crazily biased and can’t accept reality.

True, but how to you expect users to buy it if their’s nothing there and its just gamepass? That as the only draw would be extremely idiotic, sure having a Pc store or two would be great but there needs to be something exclusive to that platform and that has to be games of some kind, flagships that represent the brand that only find there. Does not mean it has be be everything exclusive but stuff that when folks look at will see it as an series that only is part of those within Xbox.

Does not have to be Zenimax or Activision Blizzard but having something exclusive to your ecosystem and people recognized as part of the ecosystem does numbers to appeal to the audience and that is games, its not gamepass alone and i think overusing it as the base is the wrong way to look at things. Thats just me.

Also sure they said next generation console but the way they are handling their userbase is baffling and that could lead to less hardware sales once it comes. That’s a point of critique that should and needs to be addressed which clearly has not been done.

It’s business and like someone said it’s not show friends but show business. Indy belongs to Disney and a permanent exclusive might have been pretty expensive. There is still a chance this third-party approach could backfire hard in which case they could always change strategy again. To me I’m off the opinion their plan is to redefine the industry, they probably would like for the platforms to be defined by their store which is digital and online than by the hardware. By opening the walled garden of the platform to every possible digital platform like Steam, Epic store, even Tencent and mobile stores they will be able to unify all platforms probably under a new OS as a format moving forward. A format that will be made available to more hardware manufactures like Asus maybe even Samsung. In the end they may stop porting games to their competitors and instead request their competitors embrace their store to access their games.
