For sure, mostly because PS has the most to lose from only having a console only ecosystem.
Xbox could very well be prepping for the mother of all table flips. Putting games on PlayStation for nowā¦. only to launch a hybrid PC Xbox that guess what⦠Plays the Steam version of PlayStations games.
We will see what the future holds but as of now is a bad look when games are still skipping Xbox because "reasons " while MS is keen to put their games on other consoles.
Optics wise xbox owners are getting the short end of the stick. They could have just kept Activision games multiplatform for the remainder of this generation at the very least. Especially if they actually are able to get Steam on Xbox people might react a lot less negatively to this.
I donāt know, I think things will be changing much quicker than people thought.

I really doubt itās Indy. Didnāt we find out during the trial that Xbox had a deal with Disney? I canāt imagine that must have been cheap. That kinda would have been for nothing then, no?
It sounds like weāll find out next week I guess. Iāll be ignoring it until then.
No. If it is Indy, then they wouldnt have paid that high price for exclusivity. Think if it as them returning it (exclusivity) and getting a refund for that portion.
I actually think theyāre thinking and betting bigger on the handheld. The handheld could for one go beyond gaming in the business sense. Apple started the Iphones on the back of their Ipods. A music device that turned out revolutionozing the phone industry. I think there is a good chance the Xbox handheld could do thesame not saying it will be a phone but it could have that same kind of impact. I also think itās not just steam or PC game stores that would be in it but it will have or be capable of having Mobile stores that would mean or open it to the billions on Mobil.
I do agree the optics donāt look right at least at the moment. However, I think itās the right move to expanding the industry. It would certainly make more sense with the hybrid console we keep hearing about. A console that integrates their console, PC and Mobile platform together. I think gaming content can become ubiquitous like movies and music and for that to happen we will probably need only one format which would remove the idea of ports and open every game to a larger audience. The storefronts will probably be the more important or defining thing. Console exclusivity might have to depend more on platform exclusive features like Quick Resume, Smart delivery among others.
Yea no, highly doubt its Indy, they paid Disney to make it exclusive a couple years ago just to make it now multiplatform again?
Plus they announced it as exclusive just months ago, and they showed it on their āE3ā show where they announced Doom as multi, so why hide this one until now? Doesnāt make sense.
80% chances for Flight Simulator, 20% for HB2 or some older game like SoD2
I think too soon for HB2, and I could see it being Flight sim, Age, or SoD2. I think SoD2 makes a lot of sense since survival games are pretty big, and could generate hype for SoD3
Watch it be Redfall
Iād love to see the reactions.
SOD 2 will be a good replacement for the canceled PS5 Factions. It could be Killer Instinct.
You know, Iām kind of thinking itās not Flight Simulator 2020? FS is so complex and complicated, porting it to PS would be horrendous. If anything, with its thin client base, Flight Simulator 2024 would probably be a better candidate for porting.
Also, the hardware accessory market is dominated by PC and Xbox. Retooling to create PS5 flight yokes, etc., would be a job in itself. And if you were into flight sims, youāre over at PC already. So there is no clear path forward for accessory manufacturers,
Yeah, whilst I love FS 2020, I donāt think it should be ported over 2024. The UX outside of flying (Iām looking at you specifically, Content Manager!) is pretty bad and Iām sure thatās one of the key areas being addressed in 2024.
When it all comes down to it itās not even about exclusivity slowly dying for me, or the fact that more people get to play these games. Only a very childish person would be like ānope, this is my game, you cannot have it.ā utter nonsense.
Itās all about the uncertainty of the future of Xbox as a console for me and what kind of consequences it might have when it comes to third party dev support. What happens if the majority of customers just donāt bother with the hardware anymore? Will devs slowly stop supporting it? Itās a slippery slope MS is threading, weāll see.
Thatās why the next console will presumably support PC games
Yeah, thatās the biggest thing about this move. Gamepass is nice, but it has stagnated in growth. I donāt think you can have a console just based off of a sub service and provide games to the other platforms. Many people will opt for the other console, which puts third party and indie support at risk on xbox. The publishers will weigh if its worth porting without a gamepass deal
While a smart idea in nature. There is a uncertainty in regards to a few flaws the pc ecosystem has that could be an issue with console hardware. The main one being the constant hacking, which is a major reason why am somewhat against it solely for this reason alone.
Yelp, one thing i know is that if the see their numbers drop in the hardware space then a change of course is necessary. Also thereās a certain fear that with too many games being ported in a short amount of time would lead to users to abandon the platform in favor of others that respect their investments. That to me is the biggest concern that Phil did nothing to communicate about, sure respect digital library was there but what about the long commitment to their own userbase thatās something that i only see either Matt or Sarah talking about when talking about exclusive games and hardware.
Itās still all going to end up back to exclusivity only evolved or modernized. Xbox goal ultimately is bring all platforms under a uniform format like has been with movies moving from VHS to discs now Blu-ray. Xbox GDK already makes this possible for Xbox and PC to some extent. Eventually when the hybrid console comes it will probably utilize a GDK that unifies all the digital platforms and bring exclusivity back to the store fronts. Right now, there will be challenges trying to develop for multiple platforms. I would imagine the hybrid console eliminates a lot of this challenges.
