Xbox has full Microsoft backing now. Xbox is planning for the future, playing the long game. Making gaming acquisition and building up infrastructure. We as Xbox fans have to be patience.
This year June showcase will be something special to look forward to. We have to remember Xbox One era was pretty bad, they basically did a reset and started rebuild Xbox back up again in 2017.
Gaming acquisition and making actual AAA games takes time, but once the ship start rolling fully with so many studios, probably 30-40 plus when it all said and done. Xbox will be a powerhouse.
Right now though, we are stll in the building up phase. ABK deal still not fully done yet.
Meanwhile, Xbox made $2.4 Billion on GamePass in revenue. If they ever hit roughly 60 million subscribers they could fund the development of every single console and PC game made each year and be profitable.
The Xbox One was MS most pofitable console ever , that doesn’t cover that it was a distant 2nd place. Not great to see more marketshare being lost to Playstation. One can hope MS will fire back when the Activision deal is done
I’d like to Xbox try infiltrate the culture of today as I posted when I started this thread.
I know YouTube is part of today’s culture but to increase mind share & capture the zeitgeist I feel like it has to be an effort in all areas. In way PlayStation do with gamepass at the forefront.
Whether it’s sports sponsorship, event sponsorship tv ads, YouTube ads, product placement etc.
Yes I’ve heard the argument about they’ll have data analytics on this but if they let PlayStation continue to be the default premium console when people think of gamin they’ll never become no1
I was just responding to the commend over Xox revenue Xbox been making billions each year even in the One era , I get and like that . Im looking at market share and momentum and dread the thought of PS 5 doing even bettet than the PS4.
PS 5 is getting little too much momentum at this point in time .Xbox needs to counter some of it , it be nice to see a little push with selling the console and more bigger push with Gamepass.
I also think it woukd be loveky if MS could take a short term hit and bring the Series S down to the magic £199 price point and maybe even look to Turn 10 to do a deno for Forza to build up hyoe and show the Series X off
I think it’s hard to launch a marketing campaign when the last AAA game was released in 2021, in 2022 Xbox continued to perform well because it had Halo and Forza on everyone’s mind, this was clearly seen when they put the FH5 image on the Xbox Series X box, it was the game that held 2022 without major releases but cannot hold another year. Sony hasn’t released anything yet but they are still holding on to GOW:R like MS did with FH5 . That’s the big problem of 2022 without big releases that will be solved once MS released RedFall, Starfield and FM. With it, MS will have what it needs to boost Xbox sales.
The games are coming, but in the mean time PS is getting a surge and momentum and even the most blinkered XBox fan can see that. It be nice to see a little push back from MS and to use the Series S too.
I know it cost a lot of dosh but in the run up to the June Showcase had a few Ads pushing the Series console and features like quick resume, Dolby Vision Atmos and pushing Gamepass with all those great games and for June cut the Series S price to £199 with 3 months of Gamepass under a June Showcase promotion and hopefully get some sales , until the BIG games ship.
It also be nice to see a demo of Forza, just one track so we can at least see what those 12 teraflops of power and XBox skill of engineering can really do. Give some back to SONY
I’m still pretty new to this forum, just want to give my 2 cents on this matter. All these years I’ve been a huge Xbox fan, mostly thanks to Halo and Gears (which are franchises that don’t mean much anymore to me), but as a kid, during the original Xbox launch, I remember my tiny town having Xbox booths all around tech shops, showcasing Blinx, Halo, Midtown Madness 3. Shelves had tons of Xbox games, accessories, everything you wanted.
But as I grew up, the effort that MS put on my country started to dwindle. I don’t know what happened, but Xbox was simply giving up. I’m talking about my country, but I’m sure other’s had the same problem. Playstation started investing heavily into TV ads, game posters on busy streets, and game localization. They hired very famous actors to dub their games, they clearly made the differentiation between the different Portuguese accents(PT-PT and PT-BR). That made people love Playstation, as they felt valued and created the good will we have today. Nintendo was not even that strong but they too started investing more into ads and localization, giving them more sales.
Xbox continues to be the same. No games on the shelves, games default to PT-BR if you have your console in portuguese, no ads, no anything.
This is what Xbox needs to do. They need to start investing in brand image, sell the console as a local product (if that makes sense), and treat all markets the same. I currently live in HK, and it’s even worse here. You have tons of of shops just for Nintendo or just for Playstation, but Xbox is nowhere to be seen.
I would start there. Right now, from a non-US standpoint, it feels like the Xbox is an American focused product being exported to the rest of the world.
I feel this is a bit of a stereotype at this point, for example in France, Sony PlayStation store took years to finally accept a digitally downloaded game could be downloaded in the language of choice of the user’s system & not just default to the language of the region.
During the PS3 years almost every single digital purchase of a game on the PS Store would default to French with zero original English language version with subtitles - unlike Xbox which was far more malleable with its language settings.
It’s just small details like that which for me always made Xbox a better all round system when compared to Sony’s rigidity. This applies to the lack of refund option on Sony’s store as well, i.e. something which is a total quagmire & for a very long time was totally impossible (& something which was borderline illegal although zero regulators cared about that).
Yeah seems to be the opposite situation there. I’ve lived in Portugal, mainland China and now HK… none of them have any Xbox presence, a shame really.
Portugal is even called Sony land and even though its a small market, Sony does invest in it. A console there is a playstation, that’s basically the situation there.
