Xbox has an expectations problem and it’s self inflicted

Honestly, as far as conference demos show not even gameplay trailers are constrained for anything. Because they are often vertical slices and not a real piece of the game running.

Quite often even for games that match the overall tone and visual fidelity of the trailers there are huge aspects that were faked and not met by the actual game.

I do think gameplay trailers are important, but having a demo they can actually met/surpass is more important than just having a target that is never met.

In this case I prefer a cg trailer that at least is known right away that only communicates the tone and overall design of the game than something that is over selling the product.

So I don’t mind Ms announcing with CG, as long as that when they do show the gameplay it’s exactly or lower what I’ll actually be playing.

Man… real negative vibes in this forum the past week

Not necessarily. It could simply mean they want the teams to focus on the game and not delay them to create a demo for covid. And them produce the trailer externally with minimal impact on development.

Could very well be that the amount of cg trailers is precisely to ensure the games are not delayed and delivered soon.

Personally, if Wolfenstein III releases in Spring/Summer 2021 and I then get Halo Infinite in November 2021 along with Starfield and Hellblade 2 in 2022, I will be very pleased. :joy:

Be real with me for a second.

I dont know the ins and outs of the behind the scenes at xbox, is it really in trouble? Like should I be at all concerned with my investment into the eco system? I know its prob fear mongering etc but some people in the forums make it sound like we are counting down the days for microsoft to drop out the market?

Sorry if this looks like concern trolling im genunly asking anyone with this kinda knowlege

The award show had some good announcements and lots to look forward to. Things are going well for Xbox.

They just released 2 consoles that’s sold out and spent 7.5 billion on Zenimax and now have 23 1st party developers. Xbox has never been healthier or had more backing from MS in its history.

Sorry I did not mean to come off all doom and gloom I am just curious on where this worry comes from? If that makes sense

Understood, it’s called concern trolling, Xbox is doing better then ever and that in and of itself makes skme people mad cause it means it’s harder for them to troll Xbox. Some people’s hobbies are not actually playing games but trolling gaming forums.

I can’t wait for this Zenimax acquisition to come to fruition. I wanna know Microsoft’s plan for each studio. Imagine giving Tango the budget to their dream game or letting arkane go wild with another Prey game.

Arkane go wild with any* game. Arkane is known for being this Dark horse of a studio, and for coming up with unique ideas others don’t even wanna consider, and them banking on another prey game is just us wanting arkane to keep making the same games. Remember, the founder of arkane who also directed prey left the studio a few years ago, saying how it was getting too AAA and not allowing for the same kind of experimentation, that games were increasingly become more of a product and so he didn’t wanna stay in that environment. Now he formed his own studio and is making a small scale immersive sim of his own, which is cool, but just makes me wonder if he still stayed at arkane, and now under Xbox got to do the same?

So I think Xbox purchasing them should give them license to do whatever they want, that indeed can be a prey sequel, but I feel like arkane can do so much more.

Yep. If you take issue with the trailers for Hellblade and Everwild for being CG, then you have to do the same for Horizon because all 3 are in-engine and not direct gameplay.

Trust me, I did. Was fully expecting a gameplay trailer after the in-engine Horizon II trailer. UGH.

Well anything is possible, but to drop a business that’s growing as fast as Xbox is right now (not to mention the potential growth that its quickly taking into) would be a pretty stupid move.

You should be worried, turns out Game Pass is losing so much money yet promising gamers so much value that its going to become a ponzi scheme bigger than Bernie Madoff. Phil will have to report to investors of gamer fraud and will likely be locked up for the rest of his life in jail.

I’m sorry for your investment in Xbox, I wish it turned out better but we are just counting down the days until the lights go off. It was a glorious ride though.

Your sarcasm is showing.

Lol, that original post is so mind boggling, do people get so worried about toys? Especially ones that are doing extremely well and are used as a source of entertainment.

I mean why aren’t there Netflix and Hulu warriors?

Hulu baby!!! Netflix is going to get it’s ass kicked. lmao.

Everything is fine. just a few shitposters.

Xbox has certainly had some issues, every single one of which has been discussed ad nauseam for the past 7 years, and they really couldn’t have come at a worse time. Mattrick really did a number on Xbox. I think we can all agree on that. I don’t think anyone is hiding from that fact.

But, Spencer took over in 2014 and the war chest really didn’t begin to open until about 2017. Given the time required to create a quality title, there just hasn’t been enough time to deliver a large quantity of content. You can’t wave a magic wand an fix the problems Xbox had in a year or two. Having said that, personally I enjoyed their Xbox One exclusive content far more than the prevailing opinion within the gaming community. I had a blast with Crackdown 3 and SoD 2 for example.

They’ve made real, undeniable progress in acquiring studios that have made great games. I believe they will continue to make great games, or at least a majority of them will. I would rather focus my energy in the excitement of games sure to come, rather than keep discussing a disappointing chapter in Xbox’s past…again.

The Series X is more powerful. It’s not a matter of opinion. The specs say it is more powerful. The more powerful hardware, sooner or later, will pull ahead in performance. Even if it’s not apparent now, barely a month in, I don’t think it will be long before we start seeing gains as developers get more time and begin putting more focus on next gen software.
