You aren’t wrong, but MS demonstrably positioned themselves as different from the others. Big enough to protect smaller studios. Focused on creativity, not bottom lines.
I’ve always known Sony were b******s, but they were always slick ones that could nail what they did with aplomb. MS couldn’t even do that recently and are lurching from plan to plan in front of everybody’s eyes.
Super hyped for Avowed, Gears 6, Shattered Space, Vessel of Hatred, and Perfect Dark! If all of those make an appearance, plus the possibility of Fable and Dragon Age Dreadwolf, this show will be an all-timer for me.
This won’t happen and I’m not sure why you’re hung up on the way a corporation like Microsoft conducts itself, or indeed any corporation. They’re all full of shit, and all this talk about how their employees are family, they want them to love working there, etc., are just empty words.
As soon as their profits can be affected in a negative manner, they’ll always take such actions.
I will be more than satisfied with just seeing Gears 6 and the new id game, everything else will be a bonus for me. That being said from 1st party I’d love to see an update on South of Midnight and (finally) gameplay from Perfect Dark.
From 3rd parties my most anticipated games are the new projects from Playdead and gen DESIGN plus the new Tomb Raider. This showcase has the potential to turn out one of their best shows in the recent years.
One thing I will say is as much as the studio shut downs and layoffs sucks, and they should rightly be scrutinised and criticised for all that, but at the same time surely the many other teams at Xbox that are going to show off their games and stuff deserve support and for fans to be allowed to see new stuff from Undead, Coalition, iD, etc.
This is me lately. It’s cyclical, sometimes I follow industry news more closely, but at the moment I’m playing so much FF14, Diablo IV, and Forza Motorsport on the daily that I don’t have as much time to listen to podcasts and check the headlines.
At this point they need to just shut up and release games, marketing them like big events INDIVIDUALLY and not rely on marketing Gamepass as being enough. No more Phil, Matt or Sarah interviews. Stop trying to be our friends. Pump out games (as they are seemingly doing), market them properly (which they are not doing), support studios when they hit difficulty (which they have miserably failed at this year), be consistent (which they have not been, flip flopping plans in the wind). So much work to do, still.
In terms of marketing the brand generally, until they do something equivalent to Sony’s Champions league sponsorship, they will always lag behind in teams of mindshare. They should be a lead sponsor of the Euros. The Paris Olympics. Mass marketing.
Oh I am calm. All the points made are entirely obvious, which makes it all the more frustrating that MS keep making such glaring mistakes. It’s a testament to their user base that a company makes so many strategic blunders but their customers remains with them.
CoD basically confirmed to be cross gen, but is anyone shocked? With how many people still play on last gen? That franchise is not leaving last gen anytime soon.
