Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

I can definitely understand wanting to spread things out, even if a show with nothing but your own studios get to shine sounds damn good to me too.

Yeah as much people hate the idea of Xbox showing stuff at events they don’t own because they should market their own stuff, which I do agree too but the thing is there are people and a lot of people at that, who don’t even pay attention at all at anything Xbox related so they won’t even see the stuff Xbox is making. Having huge announcements at stuff like TGAs is way more worthy for widespread appeal, with all that said at some point in the future Xbox will be big enough that they won’t need to do that anymore and everything will be at Xbox shows and publishers will beg to be on the Xbox stage.

Yeah, great times ahead for sure. Man i just did not realize at all they were at this many studios already. What I find extremely interesting especially is that all of them submitted something, so that includes Rare(but that likely is SoT related) but also NT,TI, inXile, Tango, which I guess could be Ghostwire but that doesn’t make much sense. More sense would be Johanas’ new game. Exciting.

Last year they didn’t have a lot but it sounds they will have plenty to show at shows that are upcoming this year.

That should also mean MachineGames has sent in something. :eyes:

I’m not sure how I feel about everyone having submitted things. It seems like it should be more structured than that.

Like if we’re told making a vertical slice/trailer is a lot of work, you’d think everyone just wouldn’t do it. Similarly, if you had to commission a CG trailer why spend the money unless you k ow it’ll be used.

It sounded like nonsense to me when i read it earlier.

Yeah, unless official it’s probably bs.

Submitted /=/ included

Its like when we have department meetings at work and they ask up who has anything in the works to present, its status, etc and then they pick a few of them to present. Other options get saved for later.

Maybe it’s more in the sense of they’re ready to show something if needed for the showcase not that everyone has a E3 demo made and sent it in.

The issue I have with all the talk is that everyone conviniently forgets to mention that when the studios had trouble Xbox stepping in and doing what they can to fix the problems is what helped moved them along.

343 has issues with HI because of resource allocation, the use of contractors because of covid 19 enforced separation? Xbox brings in Staten to get them the work together and gives them a year to get the game into a better state than it was presented.

Undead has issues with misconduct at work long before being bought by Xbox and once they are owned by Xbox reach out to the head branch to get some help? Xbox starts investigating and firing people who are doing these things and still is working to make sure everyone has a good working environment.

The Initiative original vision of a small agile studio with a community that all have equal control over a project isn’t working? Xbox brings in Crystal Dynamics to get the work done in the way it usually works, before any of the members that didn’t want to have just one person in charge could even leave.

Rare seems to be the only exception and that’s because they recognize what wasn’t working and did something about it themselves, by hiring more people for Everwild and bring one of the senior devs to get Everwild back on track.

But every time someone brings up the talk all they ever do is mention the bad and not the end results of Xbox working to fix the issues.

Everyone submitting something does not equal every studio prepping a trailer afaik.

Yeah, but it means that studios believe that they have something they can show.

Everyone submits something and MS decides whats in the show

I can’t say I felt as strongly towards it as you, but yeah, I admire them for taking a risk but it felt kinda lame beyond the amazing visual direction. The best parts were when Tango was allowed to be Tango and go all PT.

I hope their next game is smaller and more focused. I’m interested to see it. It’s being described as anti-horror.

It does depend when they show it though. Double Fine, Asobo and Ninja Theory submitted extended looks that were put in the extended show. Hell, Ninja Theory was only there to keep pacing.

They could also choose to save bits for Quakecon and Gamescom, or give to Geoff for Kick-Off or ONL.

Yeah I don’t imagine all the studios submit something appealing and marketable, I imagine some could submit teaser trailers with art and a logo, some could submit a gameplay demo with unfinished aspects (not a vertical slice), some could submit CGI trailers, and some vertical slices that are the most appealing and presentable. Point is, we’re at point where every studios has something to show, not necessarily something very appealing and marketable though.

You bring a lot of good points. The problem with these reports from many Xbox things is that they have sensational headlines and half truths, and that results in people jumping to conclusions. Especially so on Twitter, been seeing people left and right saying MS mismanages their studios grossly and that they should look at that before any other new acquisition. But it isn’t really fair when you look at the things you just explained.

Same as that podcast last week, about how mismanaged their studios are and it’s based on nothing. That all they got is Starfield and no other games, lmao. That’s why I can’t wait to see what they got in June, if they show some tangible material it should shut these people up and prove them wrong.

It does make me wonder about MachineGames and what they submitted. We don’t really know for how long Indiana Jones has been in development, do we? We’ve had the announcement teaser trailer, so next could be a cinematic, doubt gameplay.

I’m guessing it’s also possible there will be things in here that just aren’t going to be shown at all this year because the material submitted just isn’t that good?

Fable is going to have amazing art

Now those are environments I’d love to explore in a game, wow. Especially that last one.
