The individual didn’t try to clarify his statement or go into the tools situation… he just said the engine was shit, flatly.
Something you’d expect to hear from a console warrior.

Is he verified on rEsEteRA though?
No… sadly his career hasn’t reached that peak yet.
his problem was he said a lot of things then get combative if we try to ask beside saying i know what this and that
Oh I have no doubts about that.
December last year I posted a thread about a Skyrim documentary and how certain things could bring the whole thing to a halt. So the engine is great, but it can also be a real bitch. I think that’s what the dev said. I’ll quote myself from that thread:
They talk about a critter system like the butterflies. That critters at the time seemed like a harmless addition to Skyrim, but also that this is a Bethesda game and that it almost broke everything. Like this bee that would fly around and touched the wagon at the start of the game, this made the whole thing basically stop, lol.
So let’s just say the person on RE is legit, maybe he meant things like that. It can be great but also tricky to work with it.
I won’t be surprised or doubt it much. Their games are specific and specialized and so the engine has to be like that too, and it could mean it won’t be as convenient and accessible as multipurpose and widely used engines like Unreal. Like yeah, it could be complicated and tricky but without it their games just won’t be their games, you know. I’m sure that’s true for a lot or proprietary engines. Especially when you need more hires, you’re gonna spend more time teaching them and getting them adapted to the tech.
100% agreed.
Regarding Creation Engine, I believe there are lot of people who want to work in Bethesda and use Creation Engine. I think it should be relatively popular.
Creation engine has always been assumed to be a bit of a problem but its the reason they can make the games they do and why nobody else is doing it
Engines like UE are improving greatly but im not convinced another dev is going to be able to just plop out a BGS-esque game with easy endless mod support anytime soon with it or any other engine
Anyway, nothing the dude said is particuarly controversial, it doesn’t deserve that much attention
Saw someone mention that a Flight Sim dev just said on stream that they are not sharing the June update for the game right now because they are waiting to do so for the “keynote”
I actually tend to believe that the guy knows some stuff about Starfield, but I would take his views with a lot of salt.
I’ve noticed that he only jumps in to raise “concerns” about Starfield’s state, and his framing of the information is always questionable.
This time he says that the engine is crap and he doesn’t like aspects of the game…
… then when pressed about his comments he changes the tone. Now the engine is actually good but like cryengine for example it is not convenient and developer friendly like unity or UE (who would have guessed?!).
… Oh, the bad aspects of the game might actually be good for other people, because what he said was just what it was for him! and that he usually doesn’t like Bethesda games except for Doom and MG!
And he obviously has something against “insiders” and jumps in frequently to belittle them even if it were mere speculations or personal views, and says how they are talking BS and looking for attention. But obviously he is the exception to the rule!
So yeah,
I would lean to believe the info, just taking all his personal and “professional” views out of it.
So that leaves us with: It has flight, it has shooting, it has lighting, it uses an engine, a beta is coming in the summer.
Yeah, if he says he doesn’t like Bethesda games, good for him but I adore them, so theres no problem there. But beta in summer, isn’t that a bit late for a game coming in November of this year? I guess all this time I really thought the game was done, polishing phase basically. Not that this was ever stated anywhere, except for rumors and speculation by YTers.
Sounds good, hopefully they can make a good game now.
I don’t know. I guess it depends on what type of Beta it is, that could mean many things.
Somehow I doubt that
Series S design labs when
Million dollar idea.
Klee was “verified” too.
