Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

While I wouldn’t go far as say Covid is over, the damage of its first strike is over.

Exciting stuff.

Playgrounds and Obsidian are crucial to the success of Xbox, glad to see them beefing up.

Heart dropped for a moment there :awkward:

Yeah, but I wonder if the majority of PG is on Fable and a few updating FH5 or perhaps already working on FH6.

They got two teams, one for Fable and one Forza Horizon, but there’s probably some overlap in tech/engine stuff between the two for sure. The Horizon team I imagine are split between supporting FH5 and working on FH6.

A release before 2040 is my positive prediction!

And a spin-off, what’s your guess?

If no spin-off, jesus.

Bethesda could ask Inxile to work on an isometric Fallout and Obsidian to work on a Fallout New Vegas 2. I think that would be the best compromise while waiting for BGS’s Fallout 5 which will arrive in (too) many years. ZOS could also build a team to develop remakes of old games (Fallout3, Fallout NV, TES Morowind, TES Oblivion…) with the new BGS engine.

They could, however both those teams are busy or might be interested in working on something else.

I think a spin-off could happen, if Obsidian or InXile finds the time for it. I doubt any other studios would be trusted with it, but they are busy for a long time too so who knows.

why would ZOS do that tho. They have their own engine, not Creation Engine 2. Different expertise.

I’m still expecting Starfield for a late November, early December launch and maybe pushed into early 2024

It’s called Wasteland.

An MMO focused studio which is swimming in money will probably stay focus on their strength - making MMOs.

Both inXile and ZOS are very busy. ZOS have like three projects in the works including TESO.

How about Wasteland AAA in the Creation Engine :booty:

Yes, it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s an NG engine. What is the name of the new ZOS engine? I thought they were going to use the CE2 for their next games.

It’s just a hypothesis. ZOS is the fastest growing Bethesda studio since Microsoft bought Zenimax, and I think ZOS can become a key Bethesda studio (along with BGS) developing other non-MMO projects. There were also rumors about a strategy game in the TES universe (I don’t know if it has been denied).

These studios are already busy with their own projects, but I think any of them would be able to develop a spin-off before BGS releases Fallout5. Inxile has been working on Cobalt since when? 2018? The release should be soon and an isometric game à la Wasteland takes less time to develop than a big RPG in FPS/TPS view. Obsidian is a machine. They developed NV in record time and would probably be able to release NV2 quite soon after OW2. Regarding ZOS, it has had a strong growth and it is not known what it is currently working on. I think a remake takes less time to develop than a game from scratch, and an in-house team could easily handle it. Anyway, I don’t see any other studio capable of supporting a remake of Bethesda’s great RPGs.

In any case, this is only a hypothesis concerning the Fallout conversation. All we know today is that Inxile/Obsidian want to work on the license again, and Bethesda/Xbox would like to release an episode more quickly.
