Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

Yes

and the people going to go to work at 343 do so knowing they will work on Halo, likely because they want to

Its about as polarising as anything else. Halo is an iconic Xbox ip. Master Chief is Xboxs Mario. Mario has had a ton of crap games. If nintendo announced they werent going to make any Mario any more, they reaction wouldnt be “wow, what wonders new Nintendo games await” it would be “WTF you killing your mascot”

Halo had a 6 year rest. The next rest will be 10.

There isnt. There is no “bigger than Halo” unmade game that outweighs killing a currently celebrated IP. What you are arguing is killing off Star Wars so Disney can focus on something new…which is 99% guarenteed to be less successful than Star Wars.

It sits between Forza and Sea of Thieves …successful games no?

And they arent intending any of those games to ever stop either.

Like it happen in many studios.

Maybe the higher ups but thats mainly due to management changes. The core developers applied there to work on Halo so yes.

They may not be doing a great job at it but they’re very passionate about it.

I’m so tired of the someone else should take over Halo and Halo should take a break narrative. We got an amazing playing Halo game and people are ready to start from scratch because the maps and updates are coming slow.

How about yall go play something else?

That’s the last thing Halo Infinite needs is more people quitting and playing something else.

I am not sure that is the good argument for the game to offer to play somewhere else. Feels like Don Mattrick energy. If you don’t like slow updates, we have a product for you and it is called Apex Legends

Well I guess Microsoft can always offer COD.

I you don’t want Halo (or Gears, cuz it’s basically the same argument), one of Microsoft’s 20 other studios have something for you.

But the point is that when asking “where are the decent sized updates” pointing people to some other games is … strange. No different from “if you don’t like that, go to Xbox 360”

There are a lot of combat overhaul mods on console already. Like dodging/rolling, new animations, auto attacks/combos, stamina usage for everything like in Morrowind(but somehow they forgot that losing all your stamina didn’t cause you to slow down or stop all together in mortowind), stagger effects, limb damage tgat can leave you crippled, camera changes to accompany the new combat too.

I think the comparisons to movie IP to video game IP aren’t helping.

are you suggesting that 343 industries is incapable of making a popular new IP with 20 million+ player game? you do realize that State of Decay 2 has crossed over 11 million players and that’s a game on a double A budget right?

I think everyone in here needs to take a look at Xbox Game Pass and the position this puts xbox game studios in to create and experiment with new IP for some of their legacy studios. Rare made a massive success with Sea Of Thieves by letting the developers explore new territory. Maybe its time we let 343 industries try something new.

No im saying killing off Halo to make something else is going to alienate all Halo players. Absolutely guarenteed. The only way you will ever see 343 make something non-Halo is if the Studio doubles in size to handle two games simultaneously. One of them will always be Halo.

I think that if 343 ever wants to make a new IP, they would need to expand similar to Playground, so they have their new IP team and their Halo team, with the 2 switching between IPs. But they also need to expand to have more support for Halo first.

People are complain about 343 working on Halo at all, it’s not the same discussion.

I’m not suggesting Microsoft erase Halo from Game Pass and make a public statement saying “we’re done with Halo”. I’m just saying that if they allowed 343 industries to put their power on creating a new IP maybe Xbox Game Studios and Game Pass could have a massive success on a new FPS/action whatever type of game.

The question becomes is it worth the business financial risk it’ll take to try and make Halo Infinite a massive FPS? It seems like the Slipspace Engine is more broken than we originally thought. the PC port is going to take possibly another year at the worst to fix all the frame per second bugs it currently faces as an example of why Split-Screen coop was possibly cancelled.

feels like Halo Infinite is a really buggy game.

But there should a be reason like why Halo 4 or Halo 5 both failed in certain areas, why Halo MCC launched in the state it launched and why Halo Infinite is still in incomplete where they seem to be unable to meet their own deadlines all the time.

There should be a point at which we need to start asking questions not just shrug it off. They cancelled split screen mode for Halo, some random modder made it work so it means that it is possible to run however there might be some gamebreaking bugs. As split screen is a well known feature of Halo, it would make sense for them to explain why it was cancelled…

If it was worth doing it for Sea Of Thieves its worth doing it for Halo Infinite. People are going to come and go in a game, but focusing on making the game the best it can be will bring new people in through word of mouth and f2p availability.

Stagger effects? Does that mean when you hit a baddie that he will actually react to being hit? Knockback is the right word for it I guess. I will eventually go for a new playthrough and if such a mod exists where enemies actually at least react (opposed to as if you are hitting a tree, lol) that would be sick.
