Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

@Mort

Now THIS is optimism.

If what “insiders” said was true that the studio was ahead of schedule with Avowed last year, then it’s definitely switching to UE5 that caused for longer dev time. But it does say open world in that job info.

I don’t think it is for games that were announced in 2020 and started development in 2017/2018, but who knows in the current development landscape :joy:

I believe Hellblade, Contraband and something else (Perfect Dark? Project Midnight?) will be the games for the second half of 2023. And maybe Project Belfry as well.

I still don’t understand. Is it a big budget game or not? Maybe Jez Corden was trolling when he said it would be something like Pillars of Eternity.

It’s probably bigger than The Outer Worlds but smaller than Starfield.

We really won’t know until we see it.

Edit: It’s first-person so it’s definitely not like Pillars.

When did he say that? The game is just set in the Pillars of Eternity universe. As for budget, who knows, it’s not like we can have access to their accounting reports, but in essence it’s their biggest project yet, while we can’t say if it’s in the $100m+ budget, it’s probably safe to assume it’s at least gonna be in the midrange of AAA.

That would make for an amazing year, but first just let’s see Redfall and Starfield actually coming out in the first half. I’m skeptical about everything from this point on.

This is why in my opinion a bit of communication would go a long way, something, anything. But instead it’s been radio silence since the 2020 CG debut.

And some “insiders” saying stuff also doesn’t always help, sometimes the contrary.

I feel like this is one of those rare times early access actually worked extremely well for this game and made the game better because of our feedback and their ability to listen to fans and implement the features we want.

I genuinely think that Grounded is going to blow up when it leaves early access. Not to a Hades or Sea of Thieves level, but certainly bigger than it is now (which is already big with 10 million players).

A friend and I played it quite a bit but stopped, because we wanted to wait for the full game to drop then jump back in which we’re gonna do

I’ve logged in for an hour or so here or there, but yeah, I’ve been waiting for the full release and I can’t wait to experience the story.

The gap between Outer Worlds budget and Starfield budget is very huge… I don’t know why Jez mentioned it this way. This doesn’t give any perspective on what budget and scope is for avowed

Avowed can be high budget and high production quality and feel large and expansive without being as huge as Starfield. The Outer Worlds was punching above its weight already.

I’m looking forward to avowed so much. I don’t need a starfield size game. If they can match skyrim that would be perfect enough for me.

Also can’t wait for perfect dark and inxiles next game.

We have hellblade 2 for that lol. I’m more focused on the rpg depth of avowed.

If that intern’s “open world” mention is accurate, then it’ll be definitely bigger than TOW. The world building in TOW is too limited and devided due to their budget.

Hope we will have some longer trailer with more gameplay.

Hopefully by the end of the year, but we could be waiting till next e3 for a late 2023 or early 2024 release.

I’d starting to prefer smaller more dense games to be honest, while I love me a 100 hour game I don’t need them to all be 100 hours. This is the thing with Game Pass and Xbox, they’re going to need everything so that is exciting because it will allow 15-25 hour games be a thing still.

ES/Starfield/Fallout can be the huge AAA 100-200+ hour big RPGs while Avowed, Fable and so on can be the 10-30 hour highly dense games, plus be made faster most likely. When I say dense I mean more content in a smaller footprint instead of a huge map with lots of dead spots, they can make each spot of the map super unique and have tons of little secrets and easter eggs to find.

The next time they show Hellblade, they have to give us a release window.
