Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

Agreed. It’s always good to realize that it can go both ways, nothing has been confirmed yet by the studio. And it’s definitely not a make or break feature, agree with that too. If it’s Skyrim /Fallout in space I’m gonna love the shit out of it. But clearly there will be more.

If when you take off the flying happens automatically and you can walk around in the spaceship, a bit like Jedi Fallen Order…I’d be OK with that too. But manual space flight, if done properly can be amazing and truly give you the idea that you’re living in space.

I have played very little or NMS but that debut gameplay showed that they traveled to new planets all in real-time if I’m not misremembering. So why not then in Starfield? With the one big difference being the planets will have much more content built into them. Whatever the case will be, I think they’ll want as few loading screens as possible for total immersion.

i mean it could be like lego star wars has space flight.

add a few space stations, random chance of raiders showing up etc to fill in space near planets.

Haven’t played it yet but I assume it has loading screens Inbetween?

It is similar to Dragon Age Origins?

I still think we will get Skyrim in space with spaceships (horses), bandits (pirates) and fast travel points.

Why would the engine not suitable for space? Space is empty. Its the easiest environment to render stuff in.

The more difficult stuff with space are the mechanics. Do you make your space physics ‘cool’ and fun like in TIE Fighter or X-Wing or do you make them realistic and more boring like in Frontier?

No, the realistic space - just like zero gravity that Godd mentioned - requires kinda different physics engine altogether.

Here’s some more fuel to the space-flight-speculation fire.

Todd has talked about the game being set during a time where Space travel is still considered dangerous, well into the future but still closer to modern day than Star Wars/Trek

Im not sure the extent of what it will be but id be surprised if there’s not some sort of manual space flight with the way Todd has described it

I sense landgrab is going to be chaotic.

You mean my whole team sitting back doing nothing while I throw my body on the middle bit of land.

Do we even need spaceships?

Give me a great game, if spaceflight is part of that cool, if spaceflight is boring and not needed, give me fast travel.

I dont get this need for Starfield to have some sort of manual space flight in it. Will there be dog fights or some sort of combat or are we just going to be piloting the ship from planet to planet? Cause the latter sounds boring as fuck, lol

I trust in Howard that he will make it work and make it fun. And who knows, maybe it’s something you can skip too if you don’t want to do it.

Personally I would say it’s not necessarily a need to have it in there, but the idea of it sounds very interesting and I just can’t wait to see how it all works. But if it were to turn out that it’s a loading screen after all, like Mass Effect…it’s absolutely not a deal breaker.

If it’s in the game then i hope you’re right and it is fun, I’m just struggling to see how they actually do that, but as you say we need to trust Todd.
