Agreed. It’s always good to realize that it can go both ways, nothing has been confirmed yet by the studio. And it’s definitely not a make or break feature, agree with that too. If it’s Skyrim /Fallout in space I’m gonna love the shit out of it. But clearly there will be more.
If when you take off the flying happens automatically and you can walk around in the spaceship, a bit like Jedi Fallen Order…I’d be OK with that too. But manual space flight, if done properly can be amazing and truly give you the idea that you’re living in space.
I have played very little or NMS but that debut gameplay showed that they traveled to new planets all in real-time if I’m not misremembering. So why not then in Starfield? With the one big difference being the planets will have much more content built into them. Whatever the case will be, I think they’ll want as few loading screens as possible for total immersion.
Why would the engine not suitable for space? Space is empty. Its the easiest environment to render stuff in.
The more difficult stuff with space are the mechanics. Do you make your space physics ‘cool’ and fun like in TIE Fighter or X-Wing or do you make them realistic and more boring like in Frontier?
Todd has talked about the game being set during a time where Space travel is still considered dangerous, well into the future but still closer to modern day than Star Wars/Trek
Im not sure the extent of what it will be but id be surprised if there’s not some sort of manual space flight with the way Todd has described it
I dont get this need for Starfield to have some sort of manual space flight in it. Will there be dog fights or some sort of combat or are we just going to be piloting the ship from planet to planet? Cause the latter sounds boring as fuck, lol
I trust in Howard that he will make it work and make it fun. And who knows, maybe it’s something you can skip too if you don’t want to do it.
Personally I would say it’s not necessarily a need to have it in there, but the idea of it sounds very interesting and I just can’t wait to see how it all works. But if it were to turn out that it’s a loading screen after all, like Mass Effect…it’s absolutely not a deal breaker.
If it’s in the game then i hope you’re right and it is fun, I’m just struggling to see how they actually do that, but as you say we need to trust Todd.
