Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

Fall 2023. Believe.

But when will the full reveal be? E3 next year and barely half a year further it comes out? Seems unusual. It used to be the Bethesda way, but I don’t know. Think they want more time for a marketing campaign. It’s on GP I know, but still.

snakepass is GOATED and i hear sackboy was pretty good, so i’m all for this.

For a second I thought that Sumo Digital may help Kojima with his project and I was like wtf this doesn’t make any sense…lol

Sumo Digital is a very good studio, I’ll be more than happy to see them make a new Banjo or remake the first game. MS should keep far away the Banjo IP from Playful and we’re good. :crossed_fingers: :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s still plenty of time. If the showcase hadn’t just been the next 12 months, I think Avowed would have been there. We could get a trailer at TGAs or XO if it happens and then gameplay at next year’s showcase. Edit: Or Gamescom ONL.

I’ve said it jokingly before, but Obsidian are working on so many things that they could do an Obsidian Games Showcase all by themselves :joy:

Maybe. Bethesda style basically. When we eventually - I hope - reach the cadence with the games coming out relatively regularly (Microsoft’s lack of desire for marketing deals and moneyhats always comes back to bite them), it won’t be a problem.

What’s the point if it is not filled with the gameplay. With Grounded coming out and Pentiment the only things remaining are The Outer Worlds and Avowed.

We can have

  1. Bethesda show

  2. Live services show- Forza, SoT, ESO and many more

  3. Obsidian show

  4. Coalition and 343 show

  5. Rest of xbox game studios show

  6. Xbox games publishing show

And soon

  1. Activision show

  2. Blizzard show

  3. King show

It would be? A hypothetical Obsidian showcase could have 5 minutes on Grounded, 5 minutes on Pentiment, 20 minutes on Avowed and 2 minutes on The Outer Worlds 2 as a tease.

Banjo would be by the people behind Snake Pass and Sackboy?

Yes, Snake Pass is superb.

Nice that he leaked Overdose. Hopefully he’s on the money on this too.

We don’t know in what state Avowed is and other games supposed to be released by the end of the year.

I think Avowed might be revealed on TGA.

No, but I’m saying that IF they were going to do an Obsidian showcase, there is no way they wouldn’t show gameplay. I’m not saying it’s likely, because it isn’t.

Regarding showcases, I think Microsoft should stop being a tone deaf. That’s the thing they should fix right now.

How are they tone deaf? This year’s showcase was a direct response to feedback.

Announcement that all the showcase will be about the games for the next 12 month was like a bucket of cold water for the internet community. Granted general consumers were happy and they are the most important.

People were building their anticipation hoping for the games that are years away, each and every podcaster expected Contraband, Avowed etc. Anecdotally could be one of the cases where Aaron could ask to temper expectations lol

It is ironic but despite being a relatively good showcase, it did not live up the expectations for different reason than usual lol

I also remember an interview where Matt Booty said that they have difficulties scheduling the game releases, but was also incredibly tone deaf knowing that there is no big game release this year at all…

Anyway, when Microsoft studios will start to deliver, I hope the problems will go away.

I wish they had messaged the 12 month thing before the showcase, but the actual showcase itself was fine.

I’m sure when Matt Booty said that, they were expecting Starfield, Redfall and Forza to hit this year. That ended up changing, and there isn’t a whole lot they can do about it.

It’s coming at some point but not announced yet.

I was with you until the King show :joy: (sorry).

It can’t be understated how much money King bring in, but what are they going to show? A in-depth review of the new Candy Crush update and a Bubble Witch 4 reveal?

Mobile is their biggest growth market by far, it’s bigger than PC or Console but the content is not something that will stand out on its own. They are better to appear as brief segments in their other showcases IMO.

FO76 needs the upgrade to Creation Engine 2. This is basically the only way it can be upgraded at this point.

An upgrade 2 CE2 is likely far too much work for it to be worth the trouble

We will get a framerate/resolution bump at best

Regarding showcases, here’s what Microsoft should do starting in 2023 -

  1. Xbox Showcase Mini (30-45 minutes/early February)
  2. Xbox Games Showcase (“E3”/120 minutes/June)
  3. Gamescom (60 minutes/late August)
  4. Tokyo Game Show (60 minutes/late September)
  5. The Game Awards (at least 3 games shown/early December)

Throughout the year and four to six weeks from release, Microsoft should have individual game showcases. So for example, if Redfall gets a late February release date. Second week of January, they should have a show dedicated to just Redfall.

Microsoft was to do the above, there’s very little to no dead periods in terms of game releases, news, shows, etc. And of course, they have their Game Pass announcements twice a month if I remember correctly so they would be set in my opinion.
