I still think it’s stupid to put a feature like that behind a paywall, but at least the developers get compensated.
Maybe that pressures PlayStation to handle it the same way.

They are very different things.
“If we acquire a game that comes with a big community across a number of platforms,” Booty began, “the last thing we want to do is take something away. If anything, we feel that it’s our job to be caretakers, to be shepherds, to continue to build and nurture that community, not to cut it up into pieces and try to take some of it away.”
GM for Programming and Events Tina Summerford pointed to Xbox’s previous acquisition of Minecraft – and how that game has expanded across new platforms since the purchase – as proof of that philosophy.
However, Summerford did make clear that some games will be exclusive – these would presumably be brand new titles from Activision-Blizzard developers, rather than existing ones.
So pretty much any live service game will be mutliplat as we already knew.
I’m guessing it’s going to be the only way because some publishers will just continue to push back while some will allow it.
I see it a bit different, this is indie games only it seems, these devs get paid + infomation/data/statistics on how we play and it’s a just a side bonus for Game Pass people. I do agree demos should be free to all don’t get me wrong, I do think if every game had demos and it was mandatory I could see devs front loading in the first few hours to be extremely fun and diverse then having that taper off after the demo time to save money.
Damn just beat me
Haha, it was almost at the exact same time. Your post is more detailed though.
I have heard this song before
What Phil said during Bethesda round table? “There are commuties of players and we will support those communities”…
This is what I’ve been saying for a while, I think the COD IP could actually get hurt massively if they removed it from other platforms. Just keep it where it is, make Xbox the go to place to play it with amazing bonuses and such to make it worth getting a Xbox, put the game in Game Pass, market the shit out of Xbox during the COD marketing and so on. It’s just a all round win for everyone honestly, us, other platforms, Microsofts back pocket and regulators for future purchases.
BGS games have big communities too. TES has a huge community but TES VI seemingly will be exclusive though. Starfield, while a new IP has tons of this big BGS community looking forward to it, but they still have it exclusive.
But that being said I can see CoD staying multiplatform. Diablo I have no idea, I mean 4 isn’t here yet, let’s not even start about 5,lol. Overwatch same story.
Those are the exact same things they said for Bethesda.
This sounds fine to me, and this will almost ensure that the acquisition goes through too. The bottom line is that there are literally thousands of developers working across all of the Activision and Blizzard studios, so with full Microsoft company backing they can continue with the current multiplatform games like COD (which will still be a gigantic deal to come to Game Pass anyway) and make some amazing new games that are exclusive too. This is a gaming world that is cool by me.
They literally reiterated the same thing they said during Bethesda. Word by word even.
I think I like how Microsoft now releases platform news outside of their own showcases whereas previously it was all grouped together.
While completely ignoring the Minecraft part
Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 are pre existing agreements and they already have platforms announced.
Pretty much COD, Overwatch, and Diablo will remain multiplat. However I wonder if games with no history like lets say wow on console will be multiplat or xbox console exclusive
I think a theoretic “Overwatch 3” or “Diablo 5” (if these happen they’d be several decades from now anyway) wouldn’t be multiplat
I think that there is likely some distinction here with “communities” also implying games that are more multiplayer and enjoyed together with others which is not an Elder Scrolls single player RPG (Elder Scrolls Online stayed multiplatform), which is a reasonable way to look at things.
Literally Warzone stays on Playstation and it literally had cross overs with King Kong etc,. Like Minecraft
With Diablo 4 they might do Psychonauts 2 maneuver - release PS4 version without PS5 native version.
Basically it is gonna be Bethesda The Second.
