The more I think about it I’m actually glad Microsoft didn’t get Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider IP. I do think Crystal Dynamics could have been a great studio for Microsoft but I would personally rather Joanna Dark be the face of Xbox not Lara Croft.
Even though I know Lara Croft is a more popular character and IP it isn’t really associated with Microsoft where Joanna Dark is a Microsoft IP. And I wouldn’t want to see Perfect Dark get overshadowed by the next Tomb Raider game.
Hmmm…Joanna Dark is more associated with Nintendo than it is Microsoft. Also, Crystal Dynamics has I believe three pretty big studios. They could have easily done both which I believe that they would have done and as of right now, are actually doing.
He asked for Crystal Dynamics because they are a bunch of people he has worked with in the past and knows he will be able to work with. That sounds like priority #1 when you just had to deal with a team that didn’t work out well.
At what point do you think he decided to change it? After it was announced and they added the page to the Xbox website? Is it a 2027 game now?
I agree with the first part. I believe Gallagher always wanted it to be third person because it’s what he does and if you’re coming off rebooting Tomb Raider and making Lara Croft relevant again, why would he not copy the same template?
The Xbox website means nothing though. Games and whatnot change all the time. The site isn’t going to update it again until the gameplay gets revealed.
True Joanna Dark is also associated with Nintendo as well but Perfect Dark is also a Rare IP and Rare has been with Microsoft longer than they have been with Nintendo.
And sure Microsoft could do both with Crystal Dynamics but as a fan of the Perfect Dark games I don’t want to see Lara Croft overshadow Joanna Dark just because Lara Croft is a more popular character. When really I would rather see Joanna Dark overshadow Lara Croft.
Why would the game be announced as a first person shooter if the studio head didn’t agree with the direction… The studio where people left because they didn’t get the promised creative freedom… wasn’t making the game the studio head wanted?
I understand you want it to be third person, but you can’t make that make sense.
True with the first part but only to an extent. The IP hasn’t been touched in almost 17 years and if anything, Nintendo/Rare did more with it in less time than Microsoft/Rare did.
Nah, the only way Joanna gets overshadowed by Lara is if Tomb Raider releases within a few months of Perfect Dark. Two year gap for example wouldn’t do anything to hurt Joanna and if anything, people would be more hyped because studios love using elements in their games that they used in their other games so imagine if Tomb Raider has a great gameplay elements or something that could fit in with Perfect Dark. That would make people want the game more.
Maybe he agreed at the time, saw what it was becoming and simply said, fuck this shit. Get these people out of here!!! lol
I don’t believe that they were making the game Gallagher wanted. I believe they were doing the opposite and think about it, working from home, they can easily hide that. It’s not like Gallagher could just walk over to their cubicle and be like, WTF are you doing?
I definitely want it to be third person but until last September, always believed that it was going to be first person and accepted it but once all those people left and Gallagher brought in Crystal Dynamics, I believe he’s changing it to third person because that’s what he and Crystal Dynamics are great at.
That’s the reason. If the studio was a first person studio, then I would be like, yeah it’s definitely first person.
Prior to the unveil a lot of us thought it was third person based on the types of folks they had been hiring. It was actually pretty surprising. Hopefully we see more at E3 though.
Agreed and hoping we do see a gameplay teaser at the Xbox Showcase but in all honesty, im not expecting it at all but if it’s there, awesome unexpected surprise for me. lol
I think they should bring wow to console and just make it Require Keyboard adn mouse. I dont know how you could make that game work on a controller well. but I think that would make people just accept M&K on xbox
There actually was a Perfect Dark game for the Xbox 360 that was in development at Microsoft but it got cancelled due to developers being put on other projects.
True maybe it wouldn’t overshadow Perfect Dark if there is enough of a gap but still I just want Perfect Dark to do well. But regardless Embracer Group now owns Crystal Dynamics so hopefully that will lead to Perfect Dark being a better game as well as the chance of a potential sequel if the game is successful.
I can literally count 4-5 if not more games currently in development from Xbox that will be like that. It gets tiring when this conversation keeps happening. Someone says we need some like these games, then we point out that they are making some, but then it gets cherry picked or ignored for some reason. But believe there will be those game just maybe not as much as on PS.
