Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

I think that I skipped over Bargaining just to get through the stages sooner.

Agreed. But I can still see them spending a very brief moment on some stuff further away. After all Hellblade 2 was shown at the awards too. It seems they are starting to be more ok with showing far off stuff.

Oh yes, Compulsion. I keep forgetting about that but that is definitely one I’m very curious about.

Someone in the other era just mentioned the possibility of Wolfenstein 3 being ready to go for this year and I got unreasonably excited.

I really doubt it’s going to happen due to Indiana Jones, but CAN YOU IMAGINE?!

Avowed for 11-11-22 and Wolfie for September or so, let’s go!!!

Believe in your dreams

Bethesda would be de destroyer and creator of dreams at the same time :joy:

I would die of hype.

Let me sort that out for you…

Yeah, I know…sigh.

Avowed definitely will get a much longer marketing time than just a few months, that’s for sure. But it’s nice to dream I guess.

There’s still a chance (or risk) that As dusk falls will be the biggest first party title for this year, in worst scenario.

Pentiment and Belfry would be bigger than ADF, if Forza got delayed.

It’s easy to criticize afterwards obviously but I think MS should have anticipated 2022 with Halo 3 Anniversary (campaign + 1 or 2 map remade for Halo Infinite) for the 15th Anniversary. Easy winner, Halo 3 is Halo 3.

By Saber Interactive, Certain Affinity and Blur Studio like HCEA and H2A for their 10th anniversaries.

H2A took a little more than 2 years (with its own Multiplayer component). I would guess H3A could have taken 3 years with COVID without MP and a lot of work already done by Blur for the cutscenes in H2A.

Ultimately, this is the same situation as 2020 where MS didn’t have a plan B (and Bethesda could have not been acquired) although 2020 was better but we’re gonna wait June 12 before saying that. Always prepare for the worst if possible.

Of course there is also the case of Ghostwire Tokyo being a 1st party title actually released this year but not releasing on Xbox because of the contract signed by Sony with Bethesda during its development. Or that maybe MS expected Everwild in 2022 on XGS side (not sure when it was expected before it was rebooted).

as someone who owned an Xbox 360 (2009) Xbox One (2014) Xbox One X (2018) and now a Series S (2021) I can certainly attest that I’ve played hundreds of games on my Xbox consoles, and have gone through many franchises both 1st and 3rd party.

There are times when people want new franchises/IPs, sequels. Right now we’re in the period of a new console launch and we’ve yet to have much on these systems worth giving a damn about. Forza Horizon 5 still plays and looks great on the base Xbox One, Halo Infinites multiplayer content is MiA and the playerbase is becoming aggravated.

My tastes align more closely with ambitious singleplayer games that might have co-op over live service titles. I have zero interest in playing Apex Legends, Fortnite, Rust console edition, Grand Theft Auto Online Rainbow Six Siege or Dead by Daylight.

Almost every game I’ve wanted to complete I’ve already completed or dropped. When you go back to old games on new consoles you start to notice flaws. Right now I’m playing Castevania Lords of Shadow. Sure its a great game but god damn does it thematically feel like its stuck in the PS3 generation where everyone wanted to make their own version of God of War. I’m playing it through backwards compatibility mode.

You wanna know what I played in 2021? I played Fallout New Vegas for the millionth time and played Mass Effect Legendary Edition. I also went through The Evil Within 1, Wolfenstein the new order, Wolfenstein the old blood, Dishonored, Dishonored 2, Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5. out of all those titles, only 2 of them came out that year and as someone who’s played all the Horizon titles since launch I’m feeling fatigued. Great games but it needs a bit of a new generation overhaul, something that they did with Forza Horizon 2 when it was launched on Xbox One. It was a whole different game from the Xbox 360 version.

I don’t feel like I’m asking for a lot when I say that It seems as though general audiences are begging for Xbox to release a new IP, hell I talk with my more casual friends who game all the time and want to talk about the latest in gaming. You know what they say about Xbox? it doesn’t have enough new titles, people are cautiously optimistic about Starfield. VERY cautiously optimistic, people are still going back to the 10 year old Skyrim and now that its 10 years old, people are starting to see all its flaws. Sure, we can go back and play old games but is that really what people want to do during the start of a new generation of consoles?

Meanwhile everyone seems to be fighting nail and tooth trying to find a PlayStation 5 because people are excited to play through exclusive titles like Demon Souls and Returnal, even Spider-Man: Miles Morales made #15 on NPD. Horizon Forbidden West and Grand Turismo 5 are the new talk of the town now that people are done with Elden Ring, both GT7 and HFW will hold people over until God of War Ragnorak releases this holiday (if it doesn’t get delayed)

Having to go back and play 5-6 year old games isn’t what people want to do. this is called scraping the barrel, we’re at a point where there aren’t enough of the ambitious single-player titles on Xbox consoles to play if you’ve been in the ecosystem for a decade.

Of course they are bigger, but I’m not so confident to say these two games are for 2022, same with forza 8.

That’s fair. I’m reasonably confident in both, particularly Pentiment, less so Belfry.

That someone set you up for another round of disappointment.

I’m not expecting it, haha. Just saying it would be insane.

Yeah, I don’t think there is any possibility that it is announced to be honest. Not until Xbox clarifies the upcoming RPG pipeline (Starfield, Avowed, Pentiment) and even then, I hope they hold off until they can show gameplay. A CGI trailer for a new IP feels very meh to me

I don’t mind a 1 minute CG trailer that would give some hints to the world, artstyle, or type of game. I don’t think they need to do it since they have many games coming sooner, but I wouldn’t be upset at it if it doesn’t take up significant time.

We know all of the rumors but the folks outside of these types of forums don’t.

at best it is a few minutes of demo that you can download and play later this year. full game?. well that’s hard to believe…
