Xbox Game Studios |OT7| Killer News Here!?

Between 2023 & 2024, at least one of these years will be absolutely stacked. Like 5-6 games a year stacked.

Impossible

The goal is for them to release a game per quarter. Sometimes a year will shape up like that

Absolutely, it’s going to be an incredible period in Xbox history. Easily the best back-to-back lineup they’ll have ever had.

Throw in the fact they’ll be rolling out Starfield and Halo DLC in there to

Not that I think they will, but do you mean even if they’re all ready to release in a year, they won’t?

There is still work to be done to get the engine working with what they want to deliver, and even the ‘work’ as you are interpreting it would be a back and forth process between the teams.

So do I, I just think that is more likely 2024 than 2023. I’ll be happy to be wrong.

And historically this is an important franchise for Xbox. It’s one of a handful truly associated with the platform. You can bet this is being treated as a massive deal to get right internally.

There is surely some back and forth, but it’s not a completely new team working on an engine. It’s a group of grizzled veterans over at Turn 10 leveraging their engine expertise and significant time working together to tackle the project. It’s not like this is a slipspace scenario or Creation engine scenario. It’s a massive team at Turn 10.

I’d honestly be surprised if it didn’t. Turn10 are said to be the DirectX pioneers and de facto consultants to other teams within XBGS.

If they build a massive engine update and did not include support for all DX12 Ultimate features it would kind of be confirmation that they are never going to get adopted by the wider industry.

If MS’ own team are not going to embrace mesh shaders then no one else will.

I’ve certainly seen that said by some though. “You can’t have too many big games in one year or close to each other” and some suggested even if the games are perfectly ready, delay their released for the ‘perfect’ time.

I think we’re speaking at cross purposes.

Turn 10 create the engine, yes. But then you have a team of mostly new hires that have never used it before in any game. There is going to be a tonne of work to get up to speed.

Look at the Coalition taking time out to learn Unreal 5 – and they are one of the world’s leading experts in Unreal 4. This is a team that have mostly never even used the previous version of a massively updated engine.

And whatever Turn 10 do, the engine has still never been used to create this kind of game. There has no doubt been a tonne of back and forth adding features and making tweaks that were needed.

That’s all I’m saying.

I think the most they’d do is just align some release dates so they don’t fall in the same month like Marvel does.

its too bad that in 4 years we got only a 1 min teaser
i want mooooore :((

At least SFS should be a priority, would make LODs and Draw distances way better.

Take some time, sure. It’s not like it will take that long. It takes time to get used to tools and engines, but keep in mind the people they’re hiring are experienced with other engines, they understand concepts and the groundwork, it’s just a new tool to them.

Similarily, with The Coalition example, they’ll use that project to ensure they are absolute masters at Unreal Engine 5, but they’re not stopping work on other projects to do so, you’ll see them deliver Gears 6 (title assumed) in the near term, it won’t take them to 2024 to deliver a game.

I will be disappointed if the next Motorsport is not a showcase for the whole feature set.

Mesh shaders, SFS, Tier 2 VRS, DX RT. I’d even like to see them come up with some kind of use for that ML capability but maybe that is expecting too much.

The thing about Mesh Shaders is, I’ve watched several video presentations on it from parties trying to encourage Devs to use the tech – MS, Nvidia, AMD – and they all admit that while the results can be amazing it takes time and learning to get up to speed as it’s a whole new pipeline.

It is incumbent on XBGS to lead the way on that or it’ll end up being redundant silicone and a missed opportunity. Why should other Devs put the resource into embracing it if MS themselves won’t invest to show them what can be done with it?

I agree, one way or another one game will have to lead the charge or no one will bother.

One thing we really don’t have any sort of idea on is what type of E rated games other than Grounded a d Everwild will they be releasing. Seems like some of those gotta be on their way, just where.
