Xbox Game Studios |OT6| But wait, there's MORE....studios

So any evidence? Because this says otherwise.

So does this and this.

So Gears aledgedly bombed, Gamepass inexplicably exploded in popularity around the same time and Microsoft initial response was to tell the Coallition to build a second team?

Wouldn’t they kill the IP like Sony does and just get the one team to make a new IP?

Second team implies thing first team is making is too important to stop.

Didn’t think you would. You lack the courage of your convictions.

Well you still haven’t shown any evidence Gears is in decline…so yes, we can call you full of shit.

There’s no difference.

Oh…so you agree Uncharted, Killzone, resistance,LittleBigPlanet and Motorstorm are a result of waning? You seem to be arguing they were all coming back a moment ago.

Gears 6 is still being made, so it can’t really be waning can it.

Well you could just not play it instead of being selfish and insisting it be cancelled. Since Gears 5 was the biggest Gears release of all time that isn’t going to be any time soon.

It’s been in the top 50 for 2 straight years, but keep moving those goal posts…

2 years and doubling subscriptions in 90 days.

And where’s your evidence?

If Killzone was bankable it would still be made today. It’s isn’t so it isn’t. Sony kills what’s unbankable.

Ironically a Killzone game made today would be even further behind other FPS on the market then they were back then. Sony wouldn’t keep the servers up anyway.

Ok…Last I checked so did Insomniac…way back in 2003!..sadly nothing they have ever made has hit 90 meta since, so Sony should clearly close the studio. Their games dropped like bricks after all.

Tried and failed…oohhh a remaster how quaint, tell me about a new game. Dead IP.

They’re still trying to finish their last game. Sadly Last of Us 2 cratered without multiplayer and the metascore dropped like a rock…literally unsalvageable.

So lost legacy flopped? Uncharted is unbankable. Sony killed a waning IP…and uncharted fans have nothing …not even a remake.

So at least 10 million less than gears 5. Oof.

Delerium

He said it might be at the Sony show and it wasn’t. Didn’t think it would be, Infamous is unbankable.

Where’s the mainline game then? We had dreams which flopped, where is lbp4?

Make it an anthology series. One Prey game per gen, with everything different apart from one core theme. Survival.

You mean…

Interesting that the moment I request evidence for your claims about Gears 5s performance is when you cut and run.

I mean it looks really bad on you given all those links I posted. Very cowardly.

How about next time you don’t lie?

Hey guys, can we ease up on the wall of texts please?

Hard to read the thread.

Sorry but gears is definitely a declining franchise. It’s the 42nd most played game in the US right now. It has been very low on the chart since 3 months after it came out in almost every region besides Mexico.

The scary thing is that this is despite the coalition doing virtually everything right. By all accounts they made a great gears game, and have supported it post launch very very well.

Gears is the 9th most played Xbox game right now in America. It used to easily be Xbox’s second most popular game. Now it’s not even top 5.

Edit- I still think gears 5 did well. Lots of people tried it. But they obviously didn’t stick around. The buzz around gears died 3 months after release or less. The buzz around gears 1-3 lasted for a year or two. For halo 3 it lasted 3 years, for forza horizon 4 it’s just starting to slow down.

As someone that loves gears and its been my go to multiplayer since 2006, its absolutely a waning franchise

Barely changing since it’s creation and pumping new games out every 2-3 years will do that, again, it doesn’t need to die but it either needs to change things up going forward or take a rest and give people time to miss it

Anyway, this is like the 3rd time iv commented something like this about gears so imma move on lol

This is the key issue in citing Gears 5’s initial success as evidence of the franchise’s overall health.

Millions of people will try a $60 game offered for “free” on a service, even when it’s not their cup of tea they’ll do it for the novelty of it, but MS isn’t going through the effort of spending north of 100-150m and years of dev time on their big tentpole franchise for people to try it for the novelty and move on just quickly.

They want engagement, positive word of mouth and just a buzz around their games in general to advertise Game Pass.

I don’t think MS were thrilled with how quickly Gears 5 dropped off when that game was stacked with content and looked and played phenomenal right out of the gate.

They’re right to expect and want better, and Coalition deserves it too.

Friends feel free to disagree. Do not make it personal. There’s no need over gaming opinions.

Some of the shit being spewed in these past few posts should be enough to warrant some time out. My God. This is a games forum people. A forum dedicated to things made for you to have fun. It is not that serious.

Back to the gaming stuff…

Personally and selfishly, even though I like Gears and found the campaign for 5 fun, I’d be elated to see Coalition either:

  • Start a new IP
  • Give Gears a God of War-like reimagining

It’s a very talented studio who has cred from even non-Gears fans. They are one of those studios who I believe could bring in a high level of initial engagement with a new IP. Combined with Game Pass exposure, would love to see them spread their wings.

Hivebusters was no only impressive technically, I thought it had good pacing and diversity of environments. If there’s a studio capable of building a new blockbuster, 3rd-person, narrative-driven, action-adventure IP, Coalition is one of Microsoft’s best candidates for it.

Whether the business side of things or their personal desires align, I don’t know.

What is their size now? They should ideally double their size and establish Toronto as another gaming hub alongside Montreal.

The Coalition Gears failed to bring new fans into gears in major way and didn’t satisfy most of old fans. look like they didn’t have clear vision on how Handle IP. if G6 is the same as G5 and G4. then let another studio reimagine gears or let the IP Rest for years.

They do seem to be growing pretty fast and had a lot of open positions. Not sure what the studio size is today but it makes sense for them to have two AAA teams.

Haven’t found anything on this. The unannounced ZOS Montreal is now hiring on Zenimax.com. This joins the recently established satellite offices in San Diego, Madison and Austin and the main office in Hunt Valley.

I can’t say I know for sure what they are doing next, beyond the fact it’s supposedly 2 projects and continued support of ESO, but the rapid expansion of ZOS tells me some big stuff is down the pipeline.

You can find the job listings here: https://jobs.zenimax.com/jobs?department=&located=&location=379

I don’t know what I’d do if Coalition moved here to Toronto. Probably chain myself to the door begging for a job, lol.
