Xbox Game Studios |OT6| But wait, there's MORE....studios

Even as a declining franchise, it will add subs (for now).

That doesn’t change the fact it’s a declining franchise taking up more and more time and resources of a team MS could possibly be getting a lot more out of if they were on a different IP.

This isn’t reason, it’s delirium.

I’m not entertaining this comparison.

Because it’s stupid and intellectually dishonest.

Then don’t make half-witted comparisons.

Clearly this troubles you.

It’s okay. Many franchises have taken much longer breaks.

Even if Coalition could do two projects, I’d rather them work on, say, a new IP + Star Wars game than any combination involving Gears.

Gears very clearly needs new ideas because it’s declining.

It has been declining since Gears 3.

Judgment was a misstep. Gears 4 was solid but people had already moved on. Gears 5 is an incredible game that was stacked with content and it didn’t resonate anywhere near as much Coalition deserved.

Coalition right now is in a similar position to Guerilla not too long ago.

That studio made a great game in Horizon, and FW looks like a phenomenal sequel. I never cared for Killzone, but if it came back, I’d be more interested in what GG’s take on it would look like now.

I’m not suggesting Coalition switch up genres, but I do think it’s high time they switch up franchises after G6, for the IP’s sake as well as their own.

Who said kill? I’d be fine with Gears never returning, but it’s a billion dollar IP. It’s basically third person Doom. It will be back eventually.

Your list of examples is really poorly considered and rather strange.

  • Uncharted 4 sold like 20m copies. That IP is stronger now than it ever has been. The movie adaptation is starring Spider-Man. There will be more games.
  • Jak games stopped happening because ND chose to move on. They tried rebooting it and failed. It’s not staying gone because they’re not allowed to touch it, it’s staying gone for now because they don’t have any GREAT ideas for it.
  • Resistance stopped happening because Insomniac were looking to move on and own their IP around that time. Insomniac just brought back R&C and Sony knows needs FPS games, so don’t rule out a reboot.
  • Killzone got shelved because GG were burnt out on that franchise. Shadowfall was damn near reluctant. That franchise will probably be back eventually.
  • Infamous - lol, c’mon. That one is coming back. In fact, @Shpeshal_Nick shared a rumour about it not too long ago. There is no 0 chance this franchise stays gone.
  • LBP was literally a launch title, bruh. It’s a very recognisable IP. They’ll keep coming.

Out of all those, Motorstorm is probably the only one that will stay dead.

If I could write the future, Coalition would staff up to 500+ devs and concurrently develop

  • a SW1313-styled, Mandalorian-inspired TPS, &
  • a AAA swords-and-sandal game that’s Ryse x Mount & Blade x God of War

Don’t know what Mount & Blade is but wouldn’t be against a Ryse/God of War game from them. Star Wars 1313 was one of my most anticipated games of all time back then and I have never ever watched a single Star Wars movie. I did play Jedi Fallen Order and watched The Mandalorian though. If there’s one cancelled game I would want to see return, it’s Star Wars 1313. That shit looked insane in 2012. I can only imagine what it would look like today.

Man Friday is October.

We got B4B and AoE4, then FH5 and Halo.

Then it’s 2022.

It’s kind of crazy how fast the tail end of the year is flying by.

You saying it’s a declining franchise doesn’t make it so. Last we checked, Gears 5 did at least 30 million copies.

I think your confusing a Microsoft studio with a Sony one. Microsoft can afford second teams, Sony can’t…and it’s cheaper then buying another publisher.

Want to make a bet on that?

Like you re: the gears IP. Funny how that works. At least I’m being deliberately facetious.

But yeah, The Last of Us and god of war are out of steam as declining franchises. No question, they need to go.

It’s a perfectly reasonable comparison, the medium isn’t relevant.

Not really, it vexes me when it’s stupid. Thing is you could just have written “I hate gears and want the Coallition to stop making it” and I wouldn’t care, instead you chose to lie.

Yes, I think we’ve established you have a bias against gears, hence nothing you say about it really matters since it’s argued in bad faith.

Yeah, only Microsoft’s biggest launch in a generation, the fortnite killer and kick starter of Gamepass.

The Coallition never made games with 70 metascore, nor only IP that wasn’t successful at any point. Killzone was and still is unbankable, Sony had no choice but to kill it off. They can’t compete in the FPS realm.

That’s a shame, because Killzone is dead, dead, dead. I suppose that’s ok if you want an 8/10 Ubisoft game instead of a 9/10 FPS. Most gamers prefer quality.

Why would they quit on an IP with a mid 80s meta and predicted sales of 15 million copies week 1?

And yet…zero new games in production. How much did Lost Legacy sell…that’s the last game, show me that.

Yeah no games in what…15 years? Its dead.

No games in 10 years, it’s dead.

No it won’t. It’s dead.

Really, when and by who? Its been nearly 8 years since the last one. Looks dead and smells it.

That was Sackboy, where is Little big Planet…as in little big planet 4?

They’re all dead. It’s delerium to argue otherwise.

Yall just gotta agree to disagree lol, this is going nowhere fast.

No, that would be in Gears 5 dropping like a brick.

It’s not a question of affordability. It’s about ROI.

No, thanks.

You may be acting facetiously, but the bigger issue is that you are very clearly in denial.

I know I don’t need to explain the differences between video games and movies to you.

Putting waning products on break is such a stupid thing to do and yet industries of all kinds have been doing it for generations. They must all have it wrong.

Iol, couldn’t be further from the truth, nor is it relevant.

It’s because I know so much about Gears lore that I know the franchise has a lot left and many ways it can go, but I’m not so deluded I can’t see reality for what it is - the time for Gears has moved on. The franchise is overstaying its welcome and it won’t get its due until people start missing it again.

And dropped like a brick not long after.

MS aren’t investing 100s of millions in development and marketing for the game to hit #1 for a week and bounce.

When you’re spending this much money, it’s about growth and revenue streams. Gears isn’t growing, it’s declining. It’s not commanding the same attention and spend it used to. It’s what it is.

Killzone had several sequels and handheld spinoffs, but it wasn’t bankable? Do you even read what you write?

What’s old will be new again.

Because it used be a franchise that hit 90s meta and retained its players for longer.

And now it isn’t and doesn’t.

Schreier’s recent Bend Studio articles should tell you Sony were trying very hard to get an Uncharted game in production.

Who knows what ND are doing in addition to TLOU Remake? I suspect Uncharted Next is more likely considering they recently rehired one of the Game Directors on The Lost Legacy.

LL sales figures are probably quite a lot higher than most DLC/expandalones. Doesn’t really matter when UC4 sold over 20m.

So you say.

So you say.

This tactic of asking questions that can’t reasonably be answered is very transparent.

I take it you don’t believe @Shpeshal_Nick is a credible source then?

It’s spinoff. Obviously the IP is still being thought about by Sony.

So you say.

Gears 5 is a major reason why XGP subs are so high. MS used it to.sell the service and it worked. Gears 6 with added time will do even better. Nothing wrong with one mainline game or gen and a few spin offs

Pretty sure I didn’t sign up until gears 5.

Sure it was the first big release on the service but that doesnt change the state of the franchise/studio situation which is the whole argument here. Gears 5 surely didnt make 15m people sign up for game pass thats for sure.

Anyway whats the plan for Roundhouse? We banking on those Planet of the Apes rumors?

Looking at how TC are hiring en masse for the next Gears, I’d say MS are really happy with the IP. They were also very aggressive in pushing XGP with Gears 5, so I can believe they sold that many subs

Prey would be cool. The idea thier preceding studio had sounded great

Microsoft can be happy all they want and if Coalition wants to keep on churning games in the franchise then so be it. Just dont want to spend the next decade reading “The coalition is so underrated why dont they get the recognition 343 does” when the reasons for it are right there.

So we will have Prey and Prey 2024. Kinda sucks they forced Arkane to use that name since apparently they didnt want to.

From a gamer view, yea I’m done with the series. Moved on after Gears 3. I understand tho why MS continue with it

Speaking of roundhouse, did anything ever come of that inane lawsuit that Ragnarok filed against them and bethesda? I remember it sounding so damn stupid when they said bethesda felt threatened and wanted to protect the elder scrolls IP

I’m hoping for that Prey 2 bounty hunter game but I know that it’s highly unlikely to happen.

Probably a big nothing burger
