Even as a declining franchise, it will add subs (for now).
That doesn’t change the fact it’s a declining franchise taking up more and more time and resources of a team MS could possibly be getting a lot more out of if they were on a different IP.
This isn’t reason, it’s delirium.
I’m not entertaining this comparison.
Because it’s stupid and intellectually dishonest.
Then don’t make half-witted comparisons.
Clearly this troubles you.
It’s okay. Many franchises have taken much longer breaks.
Even if Coalition could do two projects, I’d rather them work on, say, a new IP + Star Wars game than any combination involving Gears.
Gears very clearly needs new ideas because it’s declining.
It has been declining since Gears 3.
Judgment was a misstep. Gears 4 was solid but people had already moved on. Gears 5 is an incredible game that was stacked with content and it didn’t resonate anywhere near as much Coalition deserved.
Coalition right now is in a similar position to Guerilla not too long ago.
That studio made a great game in Horizon, and FW looks like a phenomenal sequel. I never cared for Killzone, but if it came back, I’d be more interested in what GG’s take on it would look like now.
I’m not suggesting Coalition switch up genres, but I do think it’s high time they switch up franchises after G6, for the IP’s sake as well as their own.
Who said kill? I’d be fine with Gears never returning, but it’s a billion dollar IP. It’s basically third person Doom. It will be back eventually.
Your list of examples is really poorly considered and rather strange.
- Uncharted 4 sold like 20m copies. That IP is stronger now than it ever has been. The movie adaptation is starring Spider-Man. There will be more games.
- Jak games stopped happening because ND chose to move on. They tried rebooting it and failed. It’s not staying gone because they’re not allowed to touch it, it’s staying gone for now because they don’t have any GREAT ideas for it.
- Resistance stopped happening because Insomniac were looking to move on and own their IP around that time. Insomniac just brought back R&C and Sony knows needs FPS games, so don’t rule out a reboot.
- Killzone got shelved because GG were burnt out on that franchise. Shadowfall was damn near reluctant. That franchise will probably be back eventually.
- Infamous - lol, c’mon. That one is coming back. In fact, @Shpeshal_Nick shared a rumour about it not too long ago. There is no 0 chance this franchise stays gone.
- LBP was literally a launch title, bruh. It’s a very recognisable IP. They’ll keep coming.
Out of all those, Motorstorm is probably the only one that will stay dead.
