Sony reacts by buying Waitrose.

It’s nearly guaranteed. The franchise is third-person so I would expect that to continue.

Agreed.

I would literally eat my hat if Fable is not 3rd person lol.

Watch it be Isometric turn based

In 1st person.

Isnt Mistwalker located in hawaii techically making them a us studio?

Or bloody co-op from the ground up.

I know Fable had a side option of co-op, to a degree, but MS do need to break teh bank on massive budget, one and done, 1st person games.

Basically they need to do Ryse and Quantumn Break, but better. They needed to have had the bravery to stick with those franchises and improve them, instead of bouncing off them in fear. It resulted in their 3rd person offerings being tiny budget stuff like CD3 and Recore.

Thankfully there is more coming, but the KNOWN about “more” is still not enough…and stop making your 3rd person games bloody CO-OP!!

Me patiently waiting for Avowwed Gameplay

Jokes aside, I’m pretty confident fable will be awesome especially since playground games are handling it. I’m waiting to see if they implement the light coop mechanics or not.

So cool. I assume I need to keep checking if there’s an update for my XSX , right? Because I don’t have the option yet.

On the topic of 3rd person games, I’ve come around to somewhat agreeing with Microsoft prioritizing it. In the past, I’d push back and say Microsoft doesn’t need to copy anyone else. I still believe that…however as a piece of their portfolio for what they want to achieve with Game Pass, these 3rd party narrative-driven experiences will bring in specific gamers who other types of games won’t. In the old model, you didn’t need to check all the boxes. In the Netflix of Games model, I think they’ll try to check all the major ones. Some people simply struggle to play first-person games. It makes them sick. Others just prioritize character-driven experiences. Those types of experiences can be good for building up your stable of characters to represent your brand.

That said, while it should be one of the priorities, it’s not top of the list. Having a blockbuster, mega-hit in any genre is preferred to having “good” games in a genre that’s a weakness. So, for example, if The Initiative feels that their new vision is best in 1st person, that’s where it should be. Family-friendly content is their #1 opportunity. Japanese content is important to have an International appeal…even outside of Japan. These are likely bigger priorities today.

I do feel they’ll eventually fulfill that 3rd person, character, and narrative-driven hole within the next couple of years.

Agree, It’s all about variety. Something for everyone.

It’s also very recent-term thinking to suggest that having third-person games is ‘copying’ Playstation – as though Sony invented them.

There are plenty of iconic Xbox franchises of the past – Fable, KOTOR, Kameo, Alan Wake, Mass Effect (which started exclusive), Jade Empire to name a few – that were third person. Even in more recent times, we had Ryse and Quantum Break.

Agree. Sony ended up owning the mindshare for the genre once most other publishers decided it wasn’t the most lucrative area to focus on while they doubled down. I do think the genre is making a bit of a comeback and Game Pass is the perfect platform for Microsoft to establish new character-driven experiences. I believe they will.

Xbox just needs good games, it doesn’t matter the genre. The only reason Halo, Gears and Forza get high scores and people are like meh is because that was the only games Xbox were mostly making last gen so people were over em. If Perfect Dark comes out and scores a 92 but is a first person game I don’t think anyone should really be complaining, if Perfect Dark came out with a 92 score and is third person people shouldn’t complain either, a good game is a good game at the end of the day.

I want Xbox to naturally be diverse not be diverse for the sack of being diverse as in I don’t want them to turn Halo into a 3rd person only game with no MP because the gaming trend is going that way. I don’t care if they fund a 3rd person game over X genre, but I don’t want them chasing trends.
