Xbox Game Studios |OT6| But wait, there's MORE....studios

Im sure a Fallout remastered is coming after Starfield than Fallout 5 after that but im expecting Fallout 5 to be after TES6.

Hey, hey, hey…this is off topic in the forum’s official Fallout thread

So my brother received an email that he was selected for the Halo beta for this and next weekend. But he should receive another email with a code. He hasn’t yet though, is that normal?

Also, we use game sharing, will the beta work for me as well or nah?

As this seems to be the Fallout thread here, have people considered the implications of Starfield?

BGS appears to have the capacity to release two full-scope games a generation. This was a Fallout and an Elder Scrolls last generation, but a Starfield and an Elder Scrolls this time around.

If Starfield takes off (and I hope it will, as I much prefer hard sci-fi to post-apocalyptic, just more potential for variety) where does this leave the franchise?

Well luckily, MS now owns everyone that has ever worked on Fallout. So here is the question, if you were in charge, and you had to choose one, would you:

  • Give the franchise back to Fargo for inXile to reboot?
  • Give the franchise to Obsidian to work on NV2?
  • Let the franchise sleep until BGS is ready to return to it?

See what I did there? Bought it back on topic to studio discussion. God I’m a genius.

What Microsoft should do is get Bluepoint to remake Fallout 3 and NV in a single package, like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 HD.

Javy keeps making these points and I agree-

Bluepoint can remake smaller games like Demon Souls or The Shadow of the Collosus. Not sure whether they can handle massive games like Fallout.

There is a difference in remastering or remaking a 10-15 hr game versus remaking a 40-50hr wide world experience. They are not at the same level.

Regarding the Arkane Insomniac thing i would say Obsidian is Xbox’s insomniac.

In my opinion i think they are the 2 top Devs out there. They make amazing games

yeah I feel arkane is more like the wildcard unique world makers like Compulsion might be. Obsidians seems to be churning out stuff rapidly. The diversity in XGS is just chef kiss.

Idk if anyone has posted it. but there it is:

New talent coming to Obsidian Studio :grinning:

formerly The Initiative and Insomniac.

They wont be making Starfield as a one and done, companies dont make new games nowadays without hoping they become franchises and considering they have ES6 straight after that, yes, MS will either need to set up something for FO5 or it will remain on hold for a very long time

Todd and BGS cant direct and make everything, these games are taking longer to make with more people as time goes on

I can definitely see them greatly expanding the 76 team to make FO5/some kind of remake or straight up making them a dedicated Fallout studio like 343 for Halo because I really cant imagine them putting a series as big as that on hold, no matter how many RPGs they have on the way

Yeah the previous post to yours was about an Xbox Studio game not named Fallout

Heaven forbid

Thanks for righting the ship…I guess

Fair comment. Felt like there were was a genuine Xbox Studios conversation to be had around the franchise, though. Which is kind of a compromise.

Yeah I’m just kidding about it

At one point last night I had like almost 200 posts to catch up on in this thread and other than about a dozen posts I noticed every one of them was about Fallout in some shape or form

Struck me as a little odd, but it is in it’s proper place

For sure they want Starfield to be a new franchise. But if it isn’t well received they might back track. I don’t expect that to be the case of course.

They could of course keep building out 76 forever, add ‘sequels’ within the game that are whole new areas and so on.

I do like the idea of then giving the franchise back to Fargo for inXile to work on (assuming they would want to). Feels like a good time to do something new with it since BGS are going to be tied up with Starfield and then ES6 for a long time coming.

Why do people assume xbox is gonna snag the IP away from BGS for anything.

I laid out the question above, and one of the proposed options was to leave it with BGS and let it sleep.

I’m just asking what people think should happen with the franchise; what they would do if they were in charge.

To repeat: besides Fallout 76 updates, we aren’t going to see another Fallout for a good long while yet – if BGS has to make it.

They’re making Starfield and then Starfield DLC in the immediate term, then making Elder Scrolls 6 and then ES6 DLC in the long term, which will likely not launch until the closing stages of the generation.

The reality is, Elder Scrolls is not going to stop. They clearly didn’t put all this resource into Starfield if they intend it to be a one-and-done. Where does that leave Fallout?

Options, and my opinions.

  1. Return it to its creator, Brian Fargo, for inXile to work on it. I like this.

  2. Let Obsidian do another one. Just as problematic as BGS doing it. They have Outer Worlds and Avowed IP to focus on.

  3. Let it sleep until BGS are ready to look at it again. Won’t see another mainline Fallout this generation, and frankly unlikely to see one next generation either.

I personally think F76 will keep getting supported in the same way ESO was until a next game drops which I just see launching with the next xbox.

F76 is a big hit on game pass and generates revenue monthly via subscriptions and cosmetics. Not going anywhere lol.

Create a Fallout studio ASAP (even though it’s hard and takes a long time).

Or give it to inXile but that would suppose that they get access to the Creation Engine 2 as I don’t imagine Fallout without Bethesda’s engine (even though Bethesda is owned by MS, I don’t know if Bethesda would share the engine or if inXile would want to work with something different than Unreal Engine).

Imo, Obsidian won’t return to Fallout. Avowed, The Outer Worlds, Grounded… There isn’t room for Fallout.

Bethesda can build a new team to work on a new Fallout game. Skipping a whole generation without a Fallout game is a waste.

FO76 is not exclusive to the Game Pass though. It will not make people suscribe like a brand new Fallout 5 exclusive to Game Pass (besides PC and Xbox) would.
