This sort of thing is rife in the film industry, but not as common in the videogame industry. But, as you noted, Take Two has had multiple publishing arms for 2 decades at this point. It is honestly not a big deal for the end user at the end of the day.
They made another deal for the ps5 version. Kotor is way too big of an ip.
The game isn’t on the windows store. So gamepass is impossible. The contract must have had steam only release for pc or epic and steam. Not sure If it’s on epic.
The new contract lapses this december, being optimistic at TGA we could see the announcement of Xbox and pc versions, lol.
It’s what I said. XD
The game is on Bethesda.net and Steam, Zenimax is not a fan of old Tim Sweeney.
I’d not be that concerned about Halo. Lets look at another case in point. Battlefield 2042. The early access versions of the game release 15th October. Today is 14th September. So one month from the game being out we’ve seen - no real gameplay whatsoever. Nothing. Beyond the reveal trailer that had not much gameplay in it. We’ve not seen any uncut - here’s how a match looks gameplay. We’ve had precious little information about modes or maps or weapons or really anything. BF2042 is a huge game.
For BFV which we know had a very rocky launch in MAY they did a reveal event where they didn’t show gameplay but they discussed the game in depth. Then in early September they showed off full match gameplay etc…That game came out in early November. So 2 months before release there was full gameplay. And that was LATE for a major game but we know why - they had to rework some stuff following the trailer and the bad reaction.
BF1 we had gameplay trailer in June plus longform gameplay too. That came out towards the end of October so a more normal 5 months pre release we had a lot to look at.
Now we know Covid is a thing but we’re still looking a major franchise coming in a month from a big time developer that we know practically nothing about.
Compared to that we’ve had absolutely loads of Halo Infinite and its also almost 2 months further out.
I agree, mp HI will be fine, the concern is all about campaign.
Why isn’t this game on windows store then?
When ms bought bethesda. Surely they would have looked at this game and wwnt…right ok no Xbox for a year. But what about the windows store? There must be something in there. If there wasn’t. Ms would 100 percent have arcane put it on windows store.
MS Store is the gateway for GP, but yeah, they could at least have shipped a no GP PC enabled version on MS Store. Maybe they hadn’t the time, MS Store is still another platform compared to Bethesda.net and Steam, who knows. The thing here I disagree completely with people listing this game as a 1st party NOW, because it’s as far as it can be from being a 1st party, lol.
Whilst I appreciate they’ve not shown it… I’m not sure what people think they’d be not showing that makes anyone concerned? The story might be rubbish but they wouldn’t show that in a trailer.
What else can actually be so wrong with it? We know what its going to look like and play like.
So I don’t really see the massive concern. I’d very much like to see more as its my most anticipated game for the year right now (given BF2042 isn’t showing me anything) but it doesn’t strike me as concerning. I suspect they are using every single day to get the thing done as it seems are DICE for BF so that just seems to be the way these games will be in Covid land.
The concern is based on last year showing, still never addressed with a new campaign showing, we have to be honest here. They are clearly waiting for the last humanly possible moment to show it again because they fear public reception graphics wise.
Ah graphics. Ok well for me that is irrelevant now. The whole ‘wow this looks bad’ was down to the consoles launching. But we have visual showcases now for the Series X so I don’t think Halo has any pressure to be one - beyond the usual fanboy nonsense. Nor do I think that there is much chance it will be one either. Its clearly going to focus on wide open spaces and not be the graphical showcase - and in a year the reality is not much will have changed - though I’d hope the technical issues like pop in are reduced and they sort the textures out. But the rest? It’ll be the same. And I’m happy with that - I just want to play it. The fuss around how it looks was tied to it being a console launch game but now I think with people having played the MP and with Flight Sim and FH5 and countless updates like Doom Eternal nobody has to worry about the console and its capabilities or indeed MS studios capabilities to take advantage of it. So Halo will stand on its gameplay and whilst no doubt some mindless idiots will be trying to find the Craig gifs I don’t actually think its all that relevant anymore. End of the day we’ve just seen GT7 a supposed showcase for the PS5 look quite ugly in parts - does that matter now? No. It might have done if that was what they launched with. But I think we’re really past that being something to be concerned about.
There are huge double standards at works here, media will shred Halo in tiny pieces if it’s not up to par graphically wise, we should not fool ourselves, they delayed it mostly because of last year reception.
Cmon now lol. This game was never making its launch date, regardless of the reception.
The media? I think they’ll focus on the game. Digital Foundry might weigh in on the looks but I really don’t agree this will be a major issue unless you go looking for it. The thing about the delay is - and I know a small few things about it - they didn’t really delay because of how it looked - the campaign was ‘done’ but they weren’t happy with some of the structure. And they’ve changed it. And no doubt tweaked the visuals and whatever. But keep in mind what they showed was early footage on PC. The game isn’t going to transform in a year. I liked how it looked beyond the technical issues but some didn’t like the return to the older more cartoony Halo artstyle. I liked that and far as I know they’ve not moved from that. That look does necessarily mean some stuff will never look as good but then Halo 5 was a looked but nobody cared…
Yeah. Let’s not kid ourselves here that the reception caused the delay. The game simply was never going to be finished by 2020 hence why it will be delayed for over a year and still features have to be delayed.
I really wanna see a Jason Schrier article into Halo Infinite because jeez.
Yeah it will be interesting. Although he has sort of hinted what one of the problem was and that is ambition getting the better of the studio and making the project stall. Plus I think the engine change caused a lot of issues.
I feel like creating the game while also creating the engine at the same time never really goes well nowadays in the AAA space lol.
CDPR had the same issue iirc.
I think the worst is behind us now though, I was thoroughly impressed with the graphics in the Flight Test.
It never is. An analogy I read is it is like flying a plane while it is being built lol.
