Not for me but Psychonauts 2 looks great considering that it was a crowdfunded game to begin with. It’s AA but you can see the massive improvements put into the game once Microsoft acquired Double Fine. It’s not going to be at the level of Ratchet or Mario but it’s not meant to be.

Psychonauts 2 is as close to AAA as Double Fine will get. It’s their biggest game ever. Tim wants to do smaller games next, that’s in the DNA of Double Fine.

Smaller games??? Any chance of a Banjo remake or taking Jet Force Gemini and making it a Ratchet type game since it’s similar? Or are they doing only new IP’s?

Please let Double Fine be fully creative and let them build weird new IP. It is the last studio that should bring back old IP especially from other studios.

In an interview with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey as part of Podcast Unlocked, when discussing developing titles within Microsoft’s portfolio, Schafer commented “It’s an interesting thing to think about but I think that would be a bad use of Double Fine. Our whole thing is making stuff up.”

“I think it’s nice that people think about us when they think about that game because I think it’s definitely inspiring and I really like that game. If they think of Double Fine when they think of brightly colored platformers it’s great they think about us, but we’ll make something new that people like just as much.”

Maybe I’m just blinded by my love for the first one or maybe the art style is just insanely up my alley but it looks phenomenal to me. I’m not sure that I’d call it AAA but that seems pretty subjective, to be honest.

Either way, I hope everyone gives it a shot!

The latest video looked amazing and easily on par with Spyro, Crash and Mario in terms of visuals, there is nothing lesser about the game’s presentation at all.

Whatever Tim and Double Fine want to do, let them do it. If Microsoft wants to resurrect an older franchise and none of their first-party studios are interested or able to do so then they can seek out a second party situation.

I know that, as gamers, we have our own internal timelines for games we want to play but the business of game development is just not that simple.

I don’t think Double Fine is the right studio to do Banjo, it’s a creative studio but it’s not enough.

I don’t see them doing Jet Force Gemini either but I think a studio like Sumo Digital could work with that ip.

True. Sumo Digital did Crackdown 3 and Sackboy so I guess Jet Force Gemini could fit them.

Do you know if there’s any truth to DF making a multiplayer game next?

Psychonauts 2 took them a while, but I do wonder now with Xbox fully backing them how much “easier” development for a Psychonauts 3 would be.

I’m fine with Banjo never getting a new entry. Yooka Laylee exist for those Banjo fans out there. We have Psychonauts 2, which I find to be a much better IP anyway.

Let Double Fine create the next great original IP.
