Xbox Game Studios |OT5| DOOM posting not allowed. Except for posting about DOOM

Nope, you’re correct. Also @ProgStopper, just because someone has an interview or makes an appearance on a podcast doesn’t mean that person is doing business with said hosts. I mean Phil Spencer was on Ted Price’s industry podcast but he’s not leaving Microsoft to work under Price at Insomniac…

This looks amazing!

I used to think this game looked like garbage. But then I played through the original and changed my opinion quickly. It’s amazing how nostalgia can skew our perspective of things. In my mind this game didn’t look like much of a graphical upgrade over the original which is a ridiculous viewpoint when you sit and think about it.

It’s the industry’s fault. When you’re so secretive about your projects, it creates this demand for info that fosters this community of “insiders”. They’re basically our conduit to what’s actually happening in the business whether their info is real or not.

I don’t really have a problem with insiders who have a decent track record. It’s the community that surrounds them and the typical “bad actors” that hover around them that sucks.

I’ve pretty much stopped listening to the tea leaf readers. I think the industry is too secretive, give me roadmaps, dev diaries and insight instead. Then we wouldn’t “need” the fortune tellers reading tea leafs and fish guts.

Imagine a WH40K game made by The Coalition. That’s my dream game.

Just do it MS. Put space marines and orks skins in a Gears game and it’s done. Easy money. Pls

It still lacks AAA coat of paint of Crash, Spyro or Nintendo platformers, I hope the next Double Fine project will have that level of polish. I fear it won’t crack TGA nominations because of this, journous mostly look at graphics when they send their nominations, it is the sad truth.

Yeah, honestly the secretive nature of the gaming industry is really annoying, devs would be better served with public info about roadmaps of games, people would complain much less and/or direct their anger to the real culprits 9/10 of times: suits and company boards.

I disagree with this as well.

The industry isn’t secretive. People give us information all the time. They make announcements when they’re ready, they show us games when they think the games are ready to show.

We don’t need any conduit to what’s “actually happening”. What do we need to know? A game is in development at a studio & is being published by a publisher. That’s all we need to know until the developers feel that they’re ready to give us anything else.

This is a crowd-funded multiplatform title (atleast at planning stage) and not a AAA next-gen exclusive. It is supposed to give you a trippy experience as the psychedelic art style is not based on realism.

I didn’t complain, I know this is a crow-funded project in its beginnings, anyway you don’t need a next-gen project to have a shiny coat of polish, Nintendo games are the best examples, considering they are tailored for a portable Nvidia Shield. It’s only a matter of budget.

Plenty of non-AAA indie games win awards. Why are ya’ll like this?

People want to know what they don’t know. How often do you see people wondering what a particular dev is working on? Wolfenstein III has been a hot topic the last few days as an example.

You don’t have to like it, but it is what it is.

It doesn’t seem like you’re disagreeing with what I said.

There’s nothing wrong with wondering what a dev is working on. I do it myself sometimes. I don’t need “insiders” to do that.

I have to imagine that you’re just not a fan of the art style because it looks incredibly polished to me.

I think its pretty fair to say that Psychonauts 2 started off as a crowdfunded game but the reality is that ever since Microsoft acquired them this game grew in scope, quality and polish with all those extra resources hence why the game isnt even out yet.

So I think we gotta be careful when using the context of crowdfunded for the game for any kind of constructive criticism good or bad. The only thing remaining at this point from “crowdfunded” is the platforms and whatever other perks Double Fine offered.

No, it looks really good, but not as good as Spyro or Mario, that’s it. It lacks the last step (budget) to be a AAA platformer. Maybe it will be better from a gameplay standpoint (better than Mario I doubt), which is more important. Unfortunately journous will stop at polish being a MS game, not an indie.

So just a high tier AA experience which is fine and hopefully with the next game they take that jump.

I loved Mad Max and Rage 2 was great. Story/characters was solid but way too short. It was over before it even began. The open world looks great. The optional side content is basically a Ubisoft open world. It’s the first person shooting mechanics, gunplay and abilities that make the game great and so much fun to play. Car combat is fine but nowhere near close to Mad Max.

Maybe I’m just blinded by my love for the first one or maybe the art style is just insanely up my alley but it looks phenomenal to me. I’m not sure that I’d call it AAA but that seems pretty subjective, to be honest.

Either way, I hope everyone gives it a shot!

Not for me but Psychonauts 2 looks great considering that it was a crowdfunded game to begin with. It’s AA but you can see the massive improvements put into the game once Microsoft acquired Double Fine. It’s not going to be at the level of Ratchet or Mario but it’s not meant to be.

let’s wait till the game is out before talking about what “level” it’s on.
