Warhammer games really run the gambit of quality so it’s hard to get super excited even though Fatshark are invovled as even Vermintide ran the gambit of quality.
Vermintide was 1 was fucking awesome and is at the high end of the Warhammer Spectrum.
Necromuda on the other hand…(Not Fatshark but my point stands)
Rage 1 was kind-of the same if I remember correctly. It’s been ages since I played Rage 1, and I LIKED what I played, but I remember it played more like Doom 3 than anything else.
I don’t think this is an accurate assessment of the situation, either for that of Sony’s “tight ship” or for the quality of insiders, or even insider-adjacent individuals like our own @Shpeshal_Nick - whose own record is nigh-impeccable. I would point out that there have been more than enough times when Nick has been correct with his information, including that involving Sony (FF7 PS+ offering mentioned via Twitter and our podcast, for example). There is no shortage of Sony “insiders”, however the difference is that many of them don’t have the record to indicate that they’re anything more than clout-chasers. For the vast majority of the gaming audience, those leaked announcements are going to be huge wins, especially if they know anything about the studios building them, and though I speak for myself, when I get to see firsthand how those projects are coming along I too, will be extremely excited. People need to learn to temper their relationship with being surprised and knowing an fractional amount of information of a game. For example, most knew that Fable was in development but that’s it; they have no idea what the game looked like, how it intertwined with the original universe, etc. There are so many details beyond simply knowing a game is in development. And I would ask, does knowing there’s a guaranteed God of War sequel in the works, before it was ever announced, change your excitement for it? Assuming you liked the last game, then no, so it’s an odd distinction to be levied at one side of the field.
Furthermore, you can’t have it both ways. I would broadly argue that you can’t complain when Sony makes a blog post or announcement about something random and then become angry when there’s no Xbox reaction news-piece or rumor, while condemning insider culture. The two are inextricably linked because so many Xbox fans have a twisted expectation of constantly having to react or be in the news; which in regards to the latter, Xbox has been putting out news far more often than their competitors, but the idea that there needs to be something every single day, or that there needs to be some sort of reaction for every move is the more toxic element.
They did state as much. Welcome to the community by the way, we hope it’s a welcoming place where you can talk Xbox and all things gaming without fear of dog-piling
I was just wondering what happened to the Kojima rumor, and what became of it, as of the time our only sources were Grubb, Miles and to a lesser extent Nick.
Same with the shelf thing. We were told to keep on an eye on the shelf and (to me) it has yet to manifest itself.
It’s mostly just thinking about updates on rumors that started with a bang then were never heard from again.
To be fair, we would know what was officially announced. So we would know that games like Avowed, Everwild, Fable, Halo Infinite, Hellblade 2, etc… were coming. We wouldn’t know anything about “Typhoon” or a possible Kojima deal though. Would that be so bad?
I think it’s possible that the world could be a better place without “insiders” & all the bullshit that comes with their hints & teases.
And all we’d have to talk about is how there are no games in 2021 and 2022.
The leakers serve a necessary role, IMO. One that Sony doesn’t need because Sony’s customers have confidence that their first party (and third party deals) will deliver. When there is a lack of confidence folks are going to need more information.
I didn’t take it as throwing anyone under the bus, I simply wanted to remind people that some of those you mentioned have a great track record and these things take time. Also… sometimes you want to announce some things when it’s going to have the biggest splash. I don’t know what time is anymore but I feel like there’s something approaching that might be a great time for any of those announcements, that are ready, to make an appearance
As for Kojima, we know that Grubb wasn’t the only journalist to indicate that Sony had soured on him after Death Stranding and House’s departure.
I’ll be honest, I really don’t like the way “insider” culture has taken shape within the games industry. I think more often than not, it only leads to negativity.
I pretty much have no time for any “insiders”. I think most of them don’t actually know anything worthwhile & are just in it for the attention. I don’t listen to them. I disagree that they serve any kind of necessary role. I think that there’s plenty to talk about without them.
