No this would be sick haha, I can see them doing Fortnite style event crossovers maybe with like a DOOM style season or something. I would buy a DOOM skin for my MP character instantly heh.
Also, we talk about Obsidian like we’re still in 2010
They are not who they were back in the days when they were only known for being the guys that swooped in to make sequels that bigger studios didn’t want to work on at the time. Never Winter Nights 2, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout New Vegas
Doing that stuff made them who they are today and allowed them to start putting out their own IP’s. And I’m sure they’re stoked about finishing and releasing Avowed and working on Outer Worlds 2 and whatever else they got that we don’t know about yet
Maybe there could be a perfect scenerio where they desperately want to do another Fallout and Bethesda would actually be totally cool with relinquishing it to them. In which case I’m sure Microsoft would be more than happy to let that happen
It would be funny if guys like him & Phil Spencer had accounts, just to log in & laugh at us every so often.
“Look what they’re arguing about now! They demand new IP from The Coalition but at the same time want us to create a brand new studio just for Fallout!”
Xbox run the numbers, I’m pretty sure they already partially planned the roadmap of their ips and will use them to great effect this gen, (PS Phil I need a job at xbox)
Fallout 4’s success has been measured as greater than Skyrim according to Pete Hines (“more than Skyrim, in terms of what we did”), though Skyrim sold more.
It has a big merchandising / gear like Minecraft and Halo.
And a TV series is in the works at Amazon Prime and will be watched by million of people.
I would tend to think that TES is bigger just regarding video games but overall Fallout is as big as TES / bigger IP at the moment.
A new studio or transforming BGS Austin into a proper Fallout studio would always be quicker than waiting for after TES6 and a long-term investment for the franchise.
You could start with a remake to reduce some risks (while still allowing some creativity) and you now have a great fundation for the future of the franchise (so Fallout 6 doesn’t release in 2040 because it still doesn’t have a dedicated team after all this time).
With Starfield being a 3rd pillar at BGS, the current model isn’t sustainable anymore long-term.
Because Sony is more desperate for that sort of thing so they can remain on top and need the previously spoke of immediate “return on investment.” So they will still win out plenty of those individual exclusitivity fights
Microsoft, on the other hand, can do some of that. While in other case taking the Saito from Inception approach
