I feel like the cutscenes looked so good as they were in a confined space with custom lighting. Whereas the outdoors looked horrible because the bloody engine was unfinished and hence they were not able to tweak the lighting and shaders to get the desired results. Also the vertical slice was unfinished.
IMO the main issue seems to be the engine, which is untested but not bad at all. But a game is bound to have some trouble especially when a company is simultaneously making a brand new game engine along with the game.
But except for the graphics eveything else is looking absolutely great so far with Halo Infinite
Yeah, I agree we should not freak out every time Sony announces/shows something, because HFW is exactly like we expected (a stunning 30fps game with samey gameplay), but the problem imo is that Xbox insiders/journous are often the first to do that and indirectly downplay Xbox even if itâs not their intent. If you engage on twitter conversations you should know what you are doing imo.
Thatâs true, it was in-engine, but did that look like something they canât achieve on Xbox, especially so the Xbox Series X? It looked great, but not impossibly great. That being said, I would be pleasantly surprised if they managed to get the visuals looking like that, especially so outdoors because judging by the screenshot the interiors look awesome.
Thatâs what I meant, yep. Art style it is its own and I wouldnât even want them to copy something but I would love to be floored by a Halo demonstration, much like how I was when FH4 was shown off for the first time. They have spent like 1.5 years on the visuals (it was said to be content complete last E3 iirc) so letâs see the improvement made!
Oh wait, you mean the trailer with the pilot and chief. I meant the debut trailer, it was a trailer to show the engine off but it did say Halo Infinite at the end.
what happened with 343I they didnât drop some of the old engine, they ported to the new engine and built uopn on it led to cause them issues, IDK who was idea for open world design or service like approach but these two ideas f$#ked the whole development for halo. it was better to built new engine from ground up for future halos and develop Halo Infinte on the old engine( man just deliver classic campaign for halo and you are golden).
the management lacked vision at 343i, it something MS should look into after HI release
I agree, it can totally be done on Series X, just that when you put stuff into application, especially with Slipspace which was done along the development of the game, it wonât be the same like every game engine out there. Even Unreal Engine 4, it took a long time for the games to catch up with the first reveal.
Thatâs why, in-engine trailers are always there to give you a sense of what could be done, but it is rarely the case for the first use. Halo will still look great though, and there will be updates on the engine too, making it always better.
I wouldnât even expect him to try to find an Xbox game that he can point to as having a chance of matching, or beating how Forbiden West looked. I donât care if there even is one
Forbiden West is made to be an absolute looker. Xbox will have those too, but aside from Forza and Flight Simulator, the upcoming games are not ones that are or should be that heavily focused on straight up stunning graphics. And the two I mentioned are such different genres of game, so itâs not even a good comparison anyway
And itâs not like Xbox couldnât do what Horizon is doing. If that game was on the Series X does anyone seriously think it wouldn look worse? Hell it would likely look even better. And those kinds of titles will come. They just wonât be ones like Halo that does so many things and has to focus on so many areas. Or a massive RPG like Avowed, Starfield, Fable etc
As great as those games can look, the smaller, single player action games always have a leg up on being able to focus so heavily on graphics. So for Microsoft, that will come in the form of Hell Blade, Perfect Dark, and whatever devs like Coalition and Arkane etc. are doing
I think everyone freaking out is kind of strange. Xbox has a ton of amazing first party content on the way and games that will look phenomenal, even Series X exclusive that will look better than Horizon Forbidden West. We also saw from the trailer that Sony suffers from some of the same types of challenges like pop 8n that Xbox does. We got good stuff on the way, be excited.
Its not held by a duct tape, it just needs more time in the oven. Its not like MS engineers are incapable. Things donât go always as they are planned.
just skimmed through the discussion, and I donât understand why people are upset Jez said he was doubtful if Microsoft E3 presentation will match Horizonâs graphics. I do feel if Forza Horizon 5 is there then it can match or beat it. Also, I think many slept on hivebusters graphics because I still feel its one of the best looking games this gen so far. Anyways, we need unbiased journalism, and nothing wrong with praising games outside of what you cover. Lastly, starfield will be shown and that seems to be the most hyped game iâve ever seen for a game nobody knows whatâs its about. I donât think it will beat Horizon in graphics, but it may beat it on gameplay shown and it will probably be the most talked about game in the summer.
I think the first graphical showcase for the Xbox Series X will be Perfect Dark. Perfect amount of time and budget to put RDNA2 and the âtoolsâ to use imo. Donât think Forza or MSFS will count because they are niche genres unfortunately.
And idk why folks are surprised or shocked people are comparing big brand games from competing platforms. Itâs like when people compare stats from the all stars of 2 competing sports teams. Sparks discussion and debates(ignoring the extreme fanboyism from both sides)
I will also say itâs funny the goalpost moved to â30fps is fine as long as it looks like HFWâ
On the other hand, I will say Iâm waiting for Xbox to drop a game with the same level of fidelity but at 60fps because I feel like whatâs under the hood is better.
Game engine not being ready seems to be so causally mentioned here. If rhe gameplay was any indication Slipspace looks complete.
There is no game with an incomplete engine, as you are stitching all assets and logic with the engine.
Their issue was not being ready with either a vertical slice or a demo gameplay with completed assets.
Also, if Jason Scrier is to believed their vision was too expansive.
343i is a expert studio, but are combating rhe image due to a rushed demo, and botched MCC launch. Of course, they have things to prove - goes without saying.
PS - Everything Sony does for a demo is a vertical slice and not the full game. They put a massive amt of effort on a vertical slice. (Courtesy Chris Granel, Ex-Sony dev). They did say gameplay yesterday, but - can never be sure really.
I would imagine that developing an engine alongside a game is an iterative process. Unless you are considering various graphical capabilities separate from the engine.
This seems about right. As I just donât think gameplay wise anything they have is as far along as Horizon. The only thing possible is Halo but that was designed as an xbox one game first and yes it will probably have a few upgrades to take advantage of the series s|x. But Halo is a competitive fps. Its not really designed to be a high end graphical showcase. The first game we know of that is in that vein is Hellblade 2 and last we heard about that they were stuck because of covid waiting for mocap to be available so odds are that game is severely delayed.
