I’m with you on this. The only difference is that I don’t care about the false narratives. I really don’t get why so many people get worked up over what other people think of Xbox. Regardless of what MS does, you can bet that the likes of “XbotSlayer82” will still be spreading the same false narratives. And since I already own the Xbox and my enjoyment of the console has nothing to do with other idiots online, I simply refuse to care what other people think, intellectually honest or not.
I just hope it’s a fun show with some fun games and a couple of “Surprises” that get us talking.
EDIT: And by “other idiots online”, I’m not referring to the good folks here on XboxEra.
I care, I play great games on gamepass and psychonauts 2 will be a great game. I get the fact that they need to showcase gameplay like how sony does with the big blockbuster titles and judging by the last xbox game showcase not hitting the benchmark, I want to hold back judgement for an xbox showcase i have not seen yet and let them prove if they learnt a thing or two, coz i for one will be ready to criticize them if the show doesnt show anything promising.
Plus it would mean no potential YouTube videos with spoilers in the fucking title, I would hate that. This is one of those games I don’t need a trailer for if the plan is to shadow drop it at E3. Truly hope it happens, would be so sick. But if there isn’t one, it seems it isn’t far away.
Also I will care because I won’t shell the money, with “nobody” I was obviusly referring to media and general consensus, which translates in narratives, which are the biggest bane of Xbox alongside with AAA first party releases at this moment.
I don’t care about narratives either, I care about the success of the brand, being able to eat market share and put quality games from all over the world on my TV without having to worry about skipping games.
Now, I know it’s all speculation, but Xbox needs to start moving, I’ll still play my games if the show is good or bad, but I want xbox to succeed because it has enourmous potential.
Every wasted opportunity is more market share and mind share for Sony and a tougher battle ahead.
It’s time we had a fine E3 just like 2018. I’m tempered since months ago and I’m good with whatever, but thinking about the brand it needs to step up their E3 even if only a little.
Yeah, I know I was over simplifying a complex issue and that perceptions in the media does matter when it comes to mindshare and momentum. But, I don’t really have any doubt that those things will shift in Xbox’s favor when the games start releasing. Just look at the way things have shifted already without the games.
My previous point was meant to be this: Don’t worry about these things because of how it will affect other people’s perceptions, but rather how it will affect you and your perceptions. Wanting Xbox to kick it up a gear is cool if that’s what you want, but wanting them to kick it up a gear so other people will stop spreading narratives is just a waste of time to me.
This is just how I feel about it, so sorry if I sound like I’m preaching.
Imagine we go on about all this and then E3 comes and they’ve fucking bought WB and we get tons of gameplay for Omen, Everwild and Wolfenstein 3.
Relax. You wanna know why I, an average consumer, joined Xbox? E3 2018. It was banger after banger after banger with emphasis on Game Pass, new titles, gameplay and first party. In contrast, Sony put the press in some Last of Us tent and showed like 4 games, and if you didn’t want to watch one of them you were bored out of your fucking skull. Gameplay is important, Deep Dives are a nice bonus. But to be blunt, most everyone watching the Bethesda show is a fan of Bethesda. Not everyone watching the Xbox show is. Show off some great looking gameplay for Starfield and save the dive for QuakeCon to dominate August mindshare.
We could be getting the best shooter, best racer, best platformer, and best (and only) flight sim on console. That is a good year as far as I’m concerned. One extra game isn’t really going to dramatically change the quality of the line up.
My advice is to stop looking at this like a console war because MS already has. They still do see Sony as their primary competitor, as they’ve said in the Apple vs Epic trial, but competition =/= console war agendas.
Xbox just needs to do right for gamers and the rest should fall in line.
No console war, only sensible strategies and MS is not immune from stupid mistakes unfortunately. As you said, they seem to view Sony as they should, but sometimes they communicate strange things.
Yes it is console war. As long as we get the games, why should we care about MS’ strategy to beat out the competition? Same goes for how they publicly talk about their competition? Who cares if they say they see Google, Amazon, Playstation, or Ouya as their main competitor? None of that matters as long as we get the games.
I completely agree: E3 2018 should be the bar to aim (great mix of 1st/3rd party and CGI/gameplay), E3 2019 was very dispersive (too much indies and not many first party), last year the bane of the conference was Halo unfortunately and too much CGI.
I care when the first half of a year is completely devoid of 1st party releases (covid, I know, but Sony managed to do much much better in the same world and they currently set the bar), then I also am very happy with GP releases (but this is 3rd party for now): I can be both. Communication is key, they lost badly a generation for bad communication.
Yes, of course the “truth” about those games are somewhere between our statements. But I have to disagree on the impact a Bethesda RPG, and their first new IP in what 15 years?, would have on the quality of that line up. It would be massive.
I don’t understand people saying “Hey, look, in comparison Sony has released Destruction All Stars and Returnal this year already!”
Oh, God, shut the fuck up. Nobody cares about DAS and Returnal didn’t even sell 100,000 copies judging by the UK and Japan sales data, literally nobody in the general market gives a flying fuck about games like those. It’s do dumb to talk about those two like they are some kind of great achievement.
Ya this is the problem I have with Xbox and its not even this year its 2022 if we only get Starfield Omen Wolf 3 and FM then that would of meant MS would of only had FM for 2022 without Bethesda and thats bad to me ( If this is the line next year I am going to be happy just pointing out that it would of been a very light 2 years for Xbox with Bethesda)
Well, it should be in the context of PS5 actually had a launch line up with Spiderman, Astrobot etc, and soon R&C. Those two games alone I agree are meh at best.
