Xbox Game Studios |OT4| This is for Studio talk. Studios. It's the Studios OT. Studio talk here (Part 1)

Yep, I thought so too.

That’s what I think.

It’s certain that gamepass users will go in blind on this game, if it shadow drops.

Otherwise the majority of people will watch some gameplay or a review to know wether to buy it or not.

I think so too. The wait is going to be torture once it’s had a proper reveal. I remember after Fallout 4 at E3, I was so fucking hyped, haha.

For some people it seems that Fallout 76 has ruined BGS for them, as if they can’t make a great game anymore. And hell, 76 has been fixed and improved big time, plus it was not BGS Maryland. Howard+Team’s new game after Fallout 4 was clearly Starfield. BGS Maryland has yet to make a bad game for me, hope it never happens. They are still very much my favorite studio.

Gameplay at E3 is sure.

But this game is filled with arcade action and puzzle gameplay mechanics, if some of the dev diaries are anything to go by.

I think that if the shadow drop is true, the gameplay trailer will be highly subdued.

We’ll see, it would be amazing and a true ā€œgameplay showcaseā€ at E3 lol.

They’re forcing a narrwtive hard with this Fallout 76 stuff, it was truly bad, but also one game.

Capcom has seem years doing mistake after mistake, look at them now. It takes one truly good game to turn things around, Starfield is going to be amazing.

Personally I will stay away from any impression videos or whatsoever. I’m 10+ hours into the first game and it keeps surprising and impressing me. This studio is quite special, I have faith that 2 will be something special too.

So we know why Schafer waited so long with a sequel? Wasn’t the first one a smash hit? It sure deserves to be one.

Maybe money problems and creative freedom stuff.

This game might be a little unfair because I’m exclusively ranking on the NEWEST title developed in house that has released.

God Tier:

  • Playground Games: Forza Horizon 4. Even though its not as much of an exciting upgrade after spending 100+ hours in Forza Horizon 3, its an essential reason to buy an Xbox. The best racing game on the market mixed with the technical masters at Playground, right now this is the Xbox game
  • Arkane Lyon: Dishonored 2/Death of the Outsider. Must plays, It deserves a 90+ Metacritic. I’m sad to see Deathloop won’t be releasing on Xbox this year.

High Tier:

  • The Coalition: Gears 5
  • id Software: Doom Eternal + DLC
  • Arkane Austin: Prey and Prey Mooncrash
  • Obsidian Entertainment: Grounded. really promising for an early access title made with such a small team, you can tell they’ve put love and heart into this game.
  • Tango Gameworks: The Evil Within 2, beautiful game that deserves more recognition.

Mid Tier:

  • 343 industries: Halo 5, not counting MCC
  • InXile: Wasteland 3 would’ve made then high tier but the game was super buggy and continues to be super buggy.
  • Bethesda Game Studios: Fallout 76 Locked and Loaded
  • Zenimax Online: Elder Scrolls Online Greymoor
  • Double Fine: RAD
  • Rare: Sea of Thieves. Launched in a disappointing state but the updates have made it very good.
  • Undead Labs: State of Decay 2
  • Mojang Studios: Minecraft Dungeons and updates to Minecraft.
  • Ninja theory: Bleeding Edge

Low Tier:

  • Machine Games: Wolfenstein Youngblood and Cyberpilot. Absolute TRASH. we don’t need to ever bring these two games up again on this thread.
  • Compulsion Games: BEAUTIFUL looking games. But We Happy Few was a massive disappointment and personally I didn’t find it enjoyable. The first hour was really good but it devolved into something nobody wanted to play.
  • Turn 10: Forza Motorsport 7. Such a massive disappointment coming from Forza Motorsport 6. I spent $100 on the ultimate edition. Overcast weather the video game. It’s also got one of the worst OSTs I’ve ever heard in a video game, felt like a lazy pump out a sequel job. Nothing about it topped Forza 6.

Trash Tier:

  • Roundhouse Studios: Formerly known as Human Head studios. Most recent release was Gothic 2, a trash game that was Epic Game Store exclusive. They also worked on The Quiet Man. This is the punching bag of studios that needs to show us they can improve. I want this studio to prove us wrong.

Unknown Tier:

  • The Initiative
  • Alpha Dog Games
  • World’s Edge

I think that’s everybody. Tell me what you think, did I miss any studios or most recent projects? Did I get anything wrong?

game financing and financial issues

I gotta be in the minority that I really liked Youngblood and the twins as a cast. It was a budget Wolfenstein title and it did right what it set out to do.

ā€œPeopleā€ (more like console warriors) don’t know shit, Bethesda AAA RPGs are a big event, Skyrim and F4 numbers were inferior only to GTA and in the ballpark of COD and even F76 made has been recovered, but I agree that this game tainted a bit their name. If Starfield is good, nobody will remember F76, if only it might be boosted by Starfield success. Skyrim is still more played than TW3, the only real successor in terms of magnitude in the rpg space (Cyberpunk failed big).

Imo the open levels were a little too dispersive, sometimes you literally didn’t know were to go, but in a bad way, not related to puzzles. Also the crappy microtransations, meeh. This one, alongside F76 launch was Zenimax at its worst, possibly in order to rise the selling price, lmao.

So, yeah… Maybe what I said last night will become a reality. Oh well

If Wolfenstein: Youngblood was a ā€œbudget titleā€ then so was Death of the Outsider.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood might have been one of the most boing games I’ve ever played, it pales in comparison their previous work. To go from Wolfenstein: The Old Blood to this is a huge drop in quality. XGS/Bethesda should never ball this low again. The missions are also super imbalanced if you don’t have a partner to play it with.

It should’ve been cancelled.

Oh brother these hyperboles like cancelling a game because you didnt like it is ridiculous. I played the whole game solo completely and beat it just fine just like any game with alternative co-op can and it played and looked great.

In retrospect most of these games were also attempts to make more money to try and see if Zenimax could be salvaged and in the end we know Microsoft ended up being the game.

Yeah to try and monetize some of the games because they werent in a good shape. We know this now because Microsoft ended up buying them lmao.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood was not fun. Whether it was co-op or in singleplayer. even the check points were senseless design decisions. Everything felt awful to shoot at in comparison to all of Machine Games previous efforts. It also had terrible storytelling.

When you say ā€œmost of these games were also attempts to make more money to try and see if Zenimax could be salvageā€ it just makes me think that Youngblood was forgettable trash that will never be attempted to Machine Games again. Good.

No deep dive would be a disappointment, but if it’s true that it isn’t releasing this year it probably makes sense to have a big showcase later in the year, much closer to March. My guess is that’s what they are going for then, because it’s still a reveal close to release date.

Settlement building…not a big fan. But if it’s optional and the team has made their own settlements too, why not.

Small trailer at E3 would be a mistake.
