I think we are going to get at least one or two unannounced exclusive AAA for 2021
Maybe but the wild card is XGP Phil did say in 2017 or 18 that he was making deals
Second Extinction also missing from the Xbox Wire.
Iāve tried the Gears games but never really got into them. But iām having a blast playing Gears Tactics. Would love to see some more tactics type games. Halo Tactics anyone?
A Fallout Tactics game similar to the quality of Gear Tactics would be epic.
nah, itās a lot more like Obsidian getting to make Avowed but ALSO Grounded. A lot of the other Xbox studios are doing more than one project at a time right now (343 with HI and MCC), Rare (Everwild, SoT), Obsidian is making 4 lmao, NT with 2, Double Fine with 2, Playground with Fable and FH5, Turn 10 is helping Playground on Fable and who knows what other games, all alongside FM Next, InXile has 2 or 3, Bethesda has like 4 I think, Arkane has 2, Machinegames now confirmed to also be doing Indiana Jones, who knows what else. The point being itās very difficult to believe imo that the entirety of Coalition just wants one thing and one thing only that is to keep making Gears games indefinitely. And the thing is they DONāT need to stop making them, just do a small project like Grounded or perhaps grow the studio even further to also do something else on the side. Keep making Gears, but itād also be great if this amazing talent can be used on something else thatās not anchored to a decades old tentpole IP with its own expectations, limitations in gameplay and design and narrative, something 343 has also struggled with. Theyāre some of the best Unreal Engine developers in the industry rn both from a technical and Art direction viewpoint, yet itās a tad upsetting to see it all being used on one IP. Maybe the rumors of them making the multiplayer side for Perfect Dark could be true, and if it is, that would be really good to see. Iām talking that kind of a foray, nothing necessarily sudden and huge departure from Gears forever.
Playground were also known as the āForza studioā until they got the chance to reboot Fable. Guerrilla were known as the āKillzone studioā until they broke out with Horizon and that shit took off so big, itās one of Playstationās biggest IP. Thereās nothing stopping The Coalition to branch off and do something else as well.
TL;DR no need to kill Gears for The Coalition to maybe wanna try out something else.
Rune???
yeah the controversial IP that the studio actually sued Bethesda over lmao
Why do you think people outside the industry would know more than the people inside it? No disrespect for anyone, just pointing to the obvious thing.
I donāt believe they own that. Once Human Head āclosedā and reformed into Roundhouse, pretty sure they lost their old IP.
yeah that was probably before the studio got reformed.
Coalition helped on Tactics too. That said, I think Gears should stay the course with 6 and then see whether a reboot, a compilation, a break, a rotating cycle or just staying the course is the best way to go. I donāt want to see Gears go the way of Killzone and be MIA, but maybe something like Ratchet and Clank where each game is a fun occasion and it alternates with another IP is the way to go. Idk, Iāll play anything Coalition makes, super talented studio.
And thatās just the tip of the iceberg. Iād swap in Prey for Rune though. Itās now an MS IP (unlike Rune) and is better representative of Roundhouseās talent.
Coalition helped on⦠Letās see, Gears.
Lol I get you but as I mentioned, my whole rant was about them trying something new not necessarily at the expense of killing off Gears. It doesnāt have to be the next tentpole franchise. Grounded wonāt be, but it has carved out an amazing niche and that was a passion project of a very small team at Obsidian. I wouldnāt mean to say all studios are the same or that coalition should just behave like these other studios, but thereās just so much talent there to be shackled to just 1 IP, thatās all. We all saw how amazing Forza Horizon looked and played over the years, and when rumors came about that they were working on Fable, we all immediately pondered on how the lush open world expertise shall bleed into that game as well. Nobody were concerned about why the game was given to Playground, cuz most people knew they could expect something beautiful at the minimum. In the same way, whatever Coalition would do, weād know there would be a sign of quality that has become characteristic of the studio when it comes to certain things, things that could be explored much more if it were not shackled by a tentpole IP.
For anybody thatās played control⦠should I play it now?
Iām deciding between that or gears tactics next and the whole non-optimised thing is really putting me off.
Edit: just want to confirm, the upgrade isnāt coming until later and the optimisations are locked behind that? Is that right?

Really strong organic growth for some studios
Arkane Austin project(new Arx Fatalis or Dark Messiah game or a new IP), Wolfenstein 3 and Starfield.
Would say more but you pretty much summed up the whole Coalition-Gears thing for me @Ruthwik_Rao lol.
No idea how it plays on console, but I enjoyed Control on my pc. Itās a tad short and the ending felt abrupt to me (maybe the DLC expansions address this but I havenāt played them) but yeah a stunning game imo, some of the best lighting and art direction in recent memory. Also the physics are really fun to play with once you start unlocking the abilities. Theyāre not like immersive sim level physics but the way it feels to control the character and her powers is gonna be dope.
Itād be hilarious if 2021 had two Arkane games, one exclusive to each console lol. Arkane Austinās game would be compared to Deathloop and there would be legit Fanboy wars over which was the better arkane game, and Xbox fanboys came to the defense of Austinās game while PS fanboys to the side of Deathloop, itās gonna be one hell of a fight haha
