Xbox Game Studios |OT12| The One with Starfield and Activision Blizzard King

If it’s on Unreal, the gameplay and art will undoubtedly change (which is why I’m not thrilled about Halo being on Unreal). But I trust 343 to preserve the important elements and translate those things over from Slipspace.

I really do think we’ll get at least one new campaign this generation, whether it’s a spin-off like ODST or the next Chief story.

Something tells me that they don’t care about Lords of the Fallen when they have plenty of games from XGS to look at.

Yeah, LotF is really damned bad from what I’ve been seeing in clips, even after the patch. Overall there are some UE5 in gaming, that Aveum game as well.

More Halo campaign is always welcome, oh hell yeah. 6 or 7 years would indeed he a horrible long wait. But if UE5 is true, I can’t help but get a little scared of how long that could take. It’s a brand new engine for them and it hasn’t really proven itself on console yet, if I’m not mistaken. Iirc one of the reasons Infinite development took quite long and was rocky was because of the engine switch. But if true, they must have some good reasons to do so.

I fear the wait will be significant.

My point was that game was in UE5 and seeing how it performed, some felt like maybe 343 should stick to their engine. Look, if it can as good as any engine, I’m fine. Just a bit done with everyone putting it on a pedestal.

Probably 5 years. We all want it to look next gen.

Doesnt bother me as much with all the other Xbox studios churning them out.

343 has the benefit of being able to lean on TC and the many other Xbox studios using UE5.

I agree about UE5 being put on a pedestal, though. It’s no better or worse than any other engine. It’s about how the engine is used.

It’s more people taking shots at it based on a few AA games nowadays than it is people putting it on a pedestal.

I am no expert, but it feels like a recruiting pitch when I hear a studio is moving to UE5. I assume its much easier to recruit when you’re using unreal compared to in-house engine. However, I do find it a bit concerning about the recent issues with some of these UE5 games.

It’s a mix of both. When UE5 was revealed, everyone was like the greatest engine ever. When indies or devs with low resources create a game without fully optimized, it will be interpreted as a bad engine.

So if we (enthusiasts) know that the games are low funded and not well optimized we shouldn’t be out here talking like we know the problem is the engine.

It could very well be the engine, but technically proficient studios like CD, CDPR, and half the Microsoft studios did not choose it without performing an evaluation. Let’s trust that talented studios know what they are doing.

I hope Fable takes the landscape art seriously. After playing a bunch of Red Dead Redemption I’ve realized that I appreciate a well done map and green space in my games. If Fable can nail that aspect they’d be at a big advantage compared to a lot of major open world games, that usually suck at having quiet green spaces and interesting locations.

Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption 2 are probably the most relaxing open world games I can think of. Throw those modern zelda games in as well.

I dunno I found the large expanses in RdR2 got a bit ‘dull’ fairly quickly. How you design the space is important. Conversely I’ve never once been bored in Starfield because I just go somewhere else if that ever was to happen…

Give me an expandalone, MP can still last for 4-5 years. Infinite feels like it was built for expansions.

I wouldn’t call the UE5 games so far “low funded”.

Is Bethesda in trouble?

Starfield flops - Pete Hines leaves.

What’s wrong with Xbox studios?

Does Xbox have a talent retention problem?

After Starfield, more bad news for Bethesda and Xbox.

There, gaming journos, I came up with some headlines for you.

You’d think that journalists would think twice, since Pete actually is retiring, but I expect that you will be right. It’s so predictable, they are.

Yeah they never let little things like facts get in the way of the Xbox hate.

You’re right about the recruitment. The issues will get ironed out as time goes on, especially for Xbox games with TC (arguably the industry leaders outside of Epic) leading the charge.
