I wonder if Perfect Dark gets pushed to next gen. Feels like I keep reading news about infinite delays.
To next gen? Not a chance. You know next gen is like 2028, right? What news are you talking about.
Absolutely no chance. It’s 2025. Delayed to 2026 at the absolute latest.
Even 2026 would be an unreasonable development schedule for a game that started in 2018 (even with the reported issues).
Every game that is currently announced (besides TES VI) will be out by the end of 2026.
It started without a studio. I mean sure it had the initiative but that was not really a studio.
Crystal Dynamics start late in 2021. Its meant to be a really polished AAA game.
So assume there was basically nothing in 2021 beyond ideas and pre production stuff.
AAA games of substance take what, 5 years, 6 years maybe more.
And given that this is starting from scratch is a partnership between a ‘new studio’ that is not really formed yet and CD…say 6 years…2027…
And that’s without ‘issues’ or delays. And I suspect anything much before then would be a significantly scaled down experience.
The 5 or 6 years includes the pre-production years. It’s not 5 or 6 years of full production. We also don’t know that it started from scratch when Crystal came on board, and Crystal would have only sped things up. And the IGN report recently made it clear that they’re in a good place now and ramping up significantly.
Matt Booty essentially said that PD and SoD are planned for 2025 and will be shown next year.
Sure - but a small studio with high turnover and fractious beginnings probably didn’t leave a lot in the bank for CD. And I’m sure they can do something by 2025 - but make the sort of massively polished experience this was initially pitched as? I seriously doubt it.
People just keep underestimating how long it takes to make these things. CD came in cold too. There will be a lot of time to get things established and programmes running. Its not like day one they are ‘making the game’.
Will Shen just left Bethesda too, damn. I thought he would be chance to take over from Todd long term
Even with the problems and the turnover and starting from nothing in 2018, 7 or 8 years of development is MORE than enough. It’s not like they’re making a BGS game. They’re making a probably linear, probably 15-20 hour action adventure game.
It’s the same reason why I firmly believe that Fable is planned for Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 at the absolute latest.
8-10 year development schedules is not feasible for basically any game besides BGS, and even then Starfield was a special case for a variety of reasons (new IP, new engine, Covid, Xbox delaying for polish etc).
You are making a lot of worst case assumptions.
What the heck. I swear he was basically being groomed to take over.
I think people assumed this more than anything.
Everyone at a King studio
People do this with every studio based on absolutely nothing
True, big loss though. Wishing him well with that new studio, seems they poached a couple of veterans from various studios.
It’s a loss but I also don’t think it’s that big of a deal. These games are written and design by a very large team of veterans and new talent. TES VI will be fine.
It’s never preferable to lose talent, but one person out of a studio of hundreds isn’t not the make-or-break scenario people like to make it out to be.
Oh I have no worries about Betheda it self, just shocked that he’s gone.
The best quests from Bethesda for myself has been from Will so I’m bummed about that but don’t mistake my posts on how I feel about TES.
Agreed.
Also, given how long Starfield was in development, it was inevitable that some people would leave after. Same thing happened with Halo Infinite and basically any long or difficult project.
Yep. Especially as these development times get longer for AAA games. The burnout is real, can’t fault anyone for wanting to experience something new after spending 4-7 years of their life on a game with the same people.
