I agree TES 6 would be a killer app, but would it be ready for 2027-28? Luckily now they have a huge roster of IPs and they can launch with something other than Halo or Forza.
I think BGS has a lot of pressure on them for TES6, moreso than even 343 will have with Halo. As much as I love Starfield (my GOTY) it is clear to me from the reception of that and recent Avowed trailers that people’s expectations have changed. They expect the gameplay of action/adventure games with the depth and reactivity of the best RPGs.
Yeah, with how many studios they have, I don’t anticipate launch titles being a problem. But obviously they still need to plan accordingly and deliver.
If they could launch with an action-adventure game (Blade? Ninja Theory?), an RPG (Obsidian Fallout? TES VI?), a racing game (Forza Horizon 7?), an FPS (Halo? Wolfenstein 3?) and maybe a platformer (Banjo? Crash/Spyro? Psychonauts?) then we’ll be golden.
Even any approximation of that lineup would be amazing. Obviously they need to be mindful not to blow everything on launch and then have nothing in the following year. Better to launch with 2-3 big games and then have 2-3 more in the following 6-9 months.
So they expect something no other WRPG has achieved. While mostly my opinion, I just don’t think any WRPG I have played matches these 2 critiria together 1 to 1.
The most unrealistic expectation is expecting big RPGs to have incredible facial motion capture like action adventure games. It’s just not realistic and never will be realistic.
Also, the people who say Starfield and Avowed’s facial animations are no better than their previous games are just wrong. The difference is massive if you go back and compare.
What changed is the publisher logo and the platform release.
Yeah, I’ve seen some with the audacity of saying Indy didn’t look good, come on.
Bingo. I expect the gaming journos to double down on the nonsense we saw with Starfield, they’ve given me no reason to think otherwise. They’re already getting their narratives together for Hellblade, despite the fact that we knew what type of game it would be from the beginning.
I made the mistake of going on to look at reaction videos for the Indy reveal. Cringe inducing shit to say the least. Sad that these Youtubers have decent to large followings and set the narratives.
Hellblade in 2017 was the second coming because of its laser focused narrative and short experience, HB2 will be the apocalypse for the exact same reasons. The 1st was PS4 (temporal) exclusive, the second will be Xbox console exclusive.
Several people went from excitement to horror because of 1st person and/or for the lack of PS5. I can guarantee if the logo was right it would already be in GOTY discussions, just like that.

To be fair CDPR has done it really well in their games especially Cyberpunk. I appreciate Bethesda games are much more granular but a 1st party RPG with the scale and visuals of Cyberpunk would be insane.
It also feels more modern (less wooden/clunky) than many RPG’s, which is still one of the biggest criticisms of Bethesda games.
It’s also less reactive and the world is far more static. I like Cyberpunk but it’s more GTA than anything else. It trades reactivity and RPGness for production value, which is fine but I’d still rather play a BGS game or an Obsidian game than a CDPR game.
I also prefer Bethesda’s reactivity but they really do need to improve heavily on some things, the NPC interaction and zoom in camera for example is just so dated
Oblivion to Skyrim felt like a big jump up in that regard, interactions felt much more natural when you could talk to people while they would get on with their chores or whatever else but they decided to go back to Oblivion esque camera zoom ins
Starfield felt like a huge upgrade in terms of combat, environments and textures but real stagnation if not regression in others, I have no worries on the former for ES6 but they will need to step up other things massively for the others
Thankfully they have probably another 5 or 6 years to do so
I personally disagree, if anything I would say it’s on par if not superior in certain areas.
If you up the crowd density it definitely feels leaps beyond.
Crowds also react more realistically in Cyberpunk (running away, holding up hands & reacting to traffic etc).
This video is a bit too fanboy for my liking but it gives good examples:
(Skip to 1 minute to avoid some of the BS)
we’ve all seen the meme starfield videos, you’re not helping your case. and those comparisons are out of date since starfield updated their crowd reactivity months ago.
when people say choice and consequence, they mean your choices affecting the game… which they don’t in cyberpunk until literally the last main quest.

Yes RPG flows are definitely better in Starfield I agree, I personally however haven’t noticed any major changes for crowds.
There is also much more physical interactivity in Starfield than there is in Cyberpunk. It literally keeps track of where each objects are at any moment in Starfield.
