Dead game huh…

There is already a topic for acquisitions (repeating the same things over and over), please don’t bring that discussion here.

I hear some Halo youtubers saying they expect a new halo game next year or even late this year. That is not possible. At best we get a early teaser this june with a full release in 2026/2027. Its clear they are collaborating with Certain Affinity so that should speed things up. We just need a good Halo campaign with diverse environments coupled with a solid multiplayer, and I think they already cracked the multiplayer code with infinite so they should just build off of that.

Halo multiplayer is already separated from the campaign, they wouldn’t need develop a new one or forge. If they are just releasing a Halo infinite part 2 campaign, it could be finished sooner than later. The multiplayer would just add new maps and work through both entries. I actually prefer this idea.

Thats why you should always take the fanbase comments with a (huge) grain of salt.

I doubt they’ll release a “part 2 Infinite campaign”, I think it will be a new installment as usual, the 10 years grand plans for Infinite are already shelved since years. The thing is that now they should have the pipeline and the tools to release an actually feature complete game since day one (at least a non-cut campaign with coop and a decent launch mp suite), which is the one thing the fanbase wants the most. Also, the multiplayer side would never recover launch numbers even with a new campaign tied into it, I think they should make a new game and call it quits for Infinite as soos as it launches, and it seems they are doing it, in the last community video they literally said that Infinite is being supported by a dedicated team, but the studio is working on new things.

Concerning timetables, it’s only realistic to expect a 2027, 2026 at best release date for anything new Halo, 5 years is the minimum for a new aaa game nowadays.

The only certain thing is that Halo youtubers, personalities, etc who say the next game is this year/next year are delusional and/or don’t know anything about videogames. Or maybe they do it with malicious intent to ride the negative wave after the lack of an announce.

Hmm, I’m interested to know in what time frame that money was made… it’s definitely a good number and if it’s exceeding their metrics then it’s great, but from what I gather what those companies look for in GaaS is $500m - $1b per year, so that number might actually just be in the launch window or quarter of OW2.

Yeah, that doesn’t actually sound like a ton to me either but it appears that the individual in question (Sam Saliba) would have been there from the game launch in Oct 22 to about April / May of 23, so this is likely for about the first half year of what sounds like a contentious launch, and if you split it up it’s like $4.50 / user or more like $10 - $15 / user for 1/3 - 1/2 of the user base.

I’d imagine it’s doing higher than that now.

If they started pre-production in the past year then I’d expect it in 2027. If anything they should aim for it to be a launch title for next gen.

so when is this game gonna come out. is xbox just gonna cram everything into the back half of the year

I guess if they want to hold it and tweak a bit I’d prefer that instead of hitting a deadline and having people complain it’s a redfall (deserved or not).

I think Towerborne and Flight Sim could be summer releases: FS2020 launched in summer, Towerborne was playable last year at Gamescom, it could be launched on the next one; also, it’s a very pc-focused convention, perfect for FS2024 on the show floor and maybe an announce date for Ara.

Then you have the big guns (Indy, Avowed and COD) for fall and that’s not even counting possible surprises (I think MS has something else not yet announced for 2024).

Totally agree. Fix the mistake made with Series S/X by actually having Halo at launch this time around.

They obviously need at least one launch game, I think Series was the 1st console launching without a blockbuster game (ok, Gears Tactics, but it was a late pc port, not really the ideal thing).

Luckily, they don’t need Halo at launch anymore with the new MS organisation, while Halo itself need to launch properly next time, for the sake of the IP itself. I think in the last decade H4 and H5 were the best launches content and feature wise (the former was almost complete day one, the latter was completed much faster than HI for example), the MCC was a disaster (repaired years later, for some time was almost a stigma for Xbox brand) and HI a mixed bag (good reception for campaign, even if clearly cut, the mp was lauded for gameplay, but lacked content and they took 1 year and a half to correct course, too much in the current gaas landscape).

I know Halo has an incredible pressure and standards to keep up, but it happens for most flagship franchises when they establish a track record, otherwise they wouldn’t be iconic IPs.

This. They literally have 40+ studios already and they plan to acquire more.

There’s literally no way that they launch their next console without some exclusives. I’m probably in the minority here as I don’t really care that much about Halo but they have so many big IP’s now that I don’t think it matters anymore.

I don’t think a smaller title like Towerborne is going to get that level of dissent.

I think they want to have enough content to start and a pipeline for support, the game is clearly a gaas. It means devs are not rushing it and MS understood its latest gaas woes from HI to Redfall to FM.

I’m convinced they launch the next console with The Elder Scrolls 6. It just makes too much sense and would be an obvious killer app. Don’t get me wrong I’d love a new Halo at launch but i think they should let 343I take their time with the next Halo and just keep updating Infinite’s MP through the remainder for this gen.

Halo is still very much important to Xbox, it’s our Mario! It should always be given enough time to bake and be a high quality product. Contrary to the narrative Halo Infinite was great at launch and the MP was some of the best in the series ( though I maintain that Halo 5 MP was slept on hard, extremely underrated) didn’t launch broken as some attempt to claim, it just lacked the content that Halo games are expected to ship with.

Take the pressure off the dev to make launch and give us an all around great Halo game and the fans will be there like they are now for Infinite after they started delivering great MP content.
