Does anyone know how to check which EA game 10 hour trials are on Gamepass Ultimate using the mobile app?
Also is there a way to buy games on the Xbox store using an app yet?
South of Midnight looks gorgeous, culturally significant, important, artistically intentional and daring in its audiovisual presentation.
Game design wise, I’m not seeing anything out of the ordinary here, it looks like a fun action-adventure / platformer-ish with a nice “wide linear” structure. Noted some of the smaller enemies shown look generic relative to how beautiful everything else looks, I hope those are work in progress or they play better than they look. Otherwise, this is now an enormously anticipated game for me.
As for the point about gameplay, I’ll be honest; some of the most revered games do break the mold… but most don’t from a gameplay standpoint and that’s okay because a game/art is more than the sum of its parts. Personally, until we have new control/gameplay methodologies, I’m not sure I even give any weight to the comparison-game and if it knocks the rest out of the park and it’s fun to play, who cares if it’s not wholly original on that front? Gods know most of Nintendo and Sony’s biggest games are beyond formulaic.
You know what, my phrasing was probably set like a complaint when I didn’t really intend to mention that as a complaint, it was just an observation on what it’s presenting itself as genre-wise. Few games have original gameplay if indeed at all nowadays lol. SoM is already looking incredibly original in presentation, mood and even setting and subject matter, I would not hold it against it if it doesn’t invent a new genre lol
One thing I also really appreciated watching this documentary is proper representation and authenticity, not just adding token characters and calling it a day, no, representation at the core and creative level. Kudos to Compulsion Games for getting this right and their dedication to the overall level of authenticity across all aspects.
Seriously, the way they apparently reverse engineered stop-motion to digitize it into the engine, or the whole way they’re making the music with real and respective instruments and voices.
SoM is on UE4 - 60fps.
I can understand why not on UE5, specifically stylized assets and static lighting, no need for Nanite and Lumen.

Really ballsy to tackle the deep south as a canadian studio. It’s really easy for creatives to stumble when trying to portray a culture they’re not personally immersed in.
As an outsider myself it’s hard to judge whether they did a good job with it but the consensus so far seems to be that they did really well.
This tells me that they hired the right people to consult and assist in it. Really looking forward to it. The story telling in whf was already fantastic. This seems to be an enhancement of that even.
Whilst meant as sarcasm, I see that it could be read as a insult. I apologise for that, I’ll delete my comment.
Tempted to watch south of midnight video, but I like going into most games blind. It’s nice to see it’s a 12 hour campaign.
I noticed an interesting fact the episode The Outer Worlds of the Amazon series Secret Level is called The Outer Worlds 2 it will probably serve as an introduction to the game or it will be linked in some way with the game this is a start of communication for The Outer Worlds 2.
I would love to see Xbox have ABK remake Singularity. A true gem sadly overlooked by so many
for a start they should make it backwards compatible first.
