zenimax online’s game could possibly drop next year. that game has approaching 5 years of development right now.
Yes, the most likely announcements at Bethesda are games from ZOS, ID Software, maybe Roundhouse if the studio is working on its own project, and Wolfenstein 3 if the game is actually in development. They can announce certain things during an event at the end of the year or simply wait for the showcase next year. These games are unlikely to release before summer 2024.
Indiana Jones from Machine Games was announced 2 1/2 years ago.
Forgot about that haha
Ngl that oblivion remake sounds fake. One of the zenimax games is a new mmo, it might not drop for another 2-3 years.
Id like a oblivan remake. I skipped it on 360 and didnt play skyrim till the one x. i hear a lot of good things about it so i figured id wait for a remake one day. Im doing the same with new vegas
These Oblivion remake/remaster talks got me really excited. Oblivion was in my first batch of games I got on 360 (my first Xbox) and I loved it.
The theme tune is great too. Really hope it’s true and gets shown off next E3, I’d prefer a remake than a remaster but I’ll take either.
I don’t buy that Oblivion remake leak.
Obilivion remake with a Frankenstein base of Creation Engine + UE5 from Virtuous sounds horrible. Dont want.
I don’t want anyone remaking a BGS game unless it’s BGS.
Nate saying he knew it was being shopped but didn’t know where it landed sounds like he believes it. But just like any other rumor, I’ll treat it as such.
Citing “UE5” will be the tech gimmick of studios claiming they are top notch this year. The thing is Oblivion without the Creation Engine would just not be a BGS game.
I’d agree with a lot of that. I’ve been just as guilty of explaining to people that Naughty Dog games as a sign of gaming “maturing”. Increasingly, gameplay heavy games such s Rocket League are deemed “for kids” because they do not touch upon themes/issues.
Rightly or wrongly, Xbox needs to be more present in this space. Hellblade alone won’t be enough. Gears does some of this but that game just needs a break at this point, though I have no doubt the Coalition could absolutely smash out a brilliant new IP in this genre.
It’s one reason why Fable is going to be so vital to Xbox in the future. It is their next big, tent-pole AAA 3rd person, story driven game. I’m excited for South of Midnight as well as Compulsion have doubled their staffing and now operate at just above Doublefine in terms of head count. So if their game is going to be Psychonauts 2 level in terms of production valuer, that is great for me, personally.
I don’t really include SOD2/Everwild in that group though, just because they’ll be multi player and I don’t think MP can ever reach that cinematic level. Diablo isn’t 3rd person either. It’s isometric. 3rd person, in the context of gaming, does not mean ANYTHING where you have a visible protag on screen.
The positive thing is that, post ABK, Xbox will have so much developer capacity as to be able to make whatever they want, really. It’s just about making sure they know what the market wants them to make.
That Oblivion remake better be bullshit. Mainly because I would prefer a Morrowind remake.
If this really is happening I’m guessing it’s mostly a graphics upgrade and that other stuff like combat, a.i etc are gonna stay pretty much the same, still a lot of work but doable
Morrowind would require a real remake to be worthwhile and be much, much more work
A Morrowind remake would be a far, far bigger project. It would essentially be a whole new game in terms of development time and resources, and I wouldn’t want anyone working on it besides BGS and Todd.
I don’t think a remaster/remake of Oblivion handled by another studio has any bearing on a Morrowind remake. In fact, if Oblivion does well, that could convince BGS that there’s a market for a full ground up remake of Morrowind.
How they fit that in their schedule between Starfield, TES VI and Fallout 5 is anyone’s guess.
Yeah, I acknowledge that a Morrowind remake would be an entirely different beast than upgrading Oblivion, and was not entirely serious with my post.
I’d much rather BGS make a new game set in Morrowind sometime than them spending their valuable dev time and resources on a remake anyway.
I have this crackpot theory that BGS will use the Starfield technology to create all of Tamriel in TES VI, with each country/region being the equivalent of a planet in Starfield.
It’s unlikely, but it would be an interesting use of the technology they’ve created.
A DaggerFall remake would be great.
The idea of the oblivion remake using two engines seems to be a red flag for me… I ain’t no game dev but that feels off. The oblivion engine was the gambryo engine by emergent games… Which the creation engine is based off of (skyrim and starfield etc). Would make more sense to me to port it to that engine and not attempt getting two completely different engines to work together.
