Xbox Game Studios |OT10| Here are the games

But why ? Just download a mod and Oblivion will look amazing.

And honestly it would be a lazy remake. You have fans who remake the whole game on the Skyrim Engine. Skyblivion laugh at this rumour.

IDK. Maybe many years ago Bethesda thought it was a way to make money and keep Elder Scrolls on peoples minds. Can’t just port skyrim again I guess.

Years ago Todd was against a remake. We have two big fan projects in Skyblivion and Skywind. And there is ESO to keep people busy with TES.

I don’t think console supports that kind of mod, neither would cloud.

Why not ? Skyrim runs basically on a modified Gamebryo engine.

Don’t quote me, but I believe there are limitations to the mods that are allowed on console?

Exactly. When Sony was struggling during the PS3 era to find games that resonated with people the solution wasn’t trying to compete with Halo and Gears with Killzone and Resistance. The solution came from a developer that typically published mascot platformers releasing something completely outside their wheelhouse that people didn’t realize they were missing.

The answer isn’t more Quantum Break (as much as I enjoyed it). The answer is to find what the market is missing and become the home of that.

Once a publisher finds what works they seem to become very risk averse. Once Microsoft found Halo and Gears they became the answer to everything. Sony is doing the same thing with TLOU and GOW.

Sounds like it might be real

I agree. Although I bet if we counted up all of Xboxs 3rd person games it would be quite a few.

  • Gears
  • State of Decay
  • Hellblade
  • Starfield (works for both)
  • Grounded
  • Everwild
  • South Past Midnight
  • Diablo
  • Fable

Its not small at all.

I tried Oblivion after Skyrim came out but it felt dated by then so I dropped it. Would love to play a remake of it.

There are definitely aspects that havn’t aged well, hell Skyrims combat was kinda ass when it released and Oblivion is before even that

But the nostalgia for Oblivion runs deep, it and Gears were the games on 360 that made me feel true next gen and quite frankly, they were the last time I played something that blew me away in that regard, they were so far ahead of everything else on the market

Oblivion in particular blew my mind with the possibilities and world it offered and that soundtrack man, absolute perfection

For sure. Though I don’t think 3rd person is the recipe to Sony’s current success, an ingredient for sure though.

To me it’s:

  • Extremely high production values
  • Trying to write “mature” stories in a medium that typically keeps it simple… success is debatable “sad dad” but there’s definitely a subset of gamers who think this is elevated material
  • Premium voice acting/actors
  • RPG lite mechanics

Etc.

If I had to sum them up I’d say they are games designed to simultaneously push technical boundaries and make the player think that it’s an experience. Not a game - cause those are for kids. It’s an elevated sophisticated experience and the consumer is an elevated and sophisticated person for appreciating it. It’s exclusive and prestigious.

Or that’s the elevator pitch anyway.

That would be amazing. An actual remake?

If true, it’s apparently by Virtuoso and I’ve seen one dude on that link say this isn’t good news, that they mess up anything they work on. But surely if Bethesda/MS picked this studio, they must have faith in it, Oblivion is huge and beloved.

They are also the ones doing Mgs3 remake, so who knows lol

You’re right, they are doing that too. Let’s hope it all turns out well.

That said… are there any Zenimax releases planned for 2024? A publisher like them would normally have at least one (normally more) games per year.

We don’t have a single announced game from Zenimax do we? Just rumors.

I guess they dropped 3 in 2023.

id’s next game can’t be too far away. It’s probably more likely in '25 but next year wouldn’t surprise me.

Yeah, this year would have been great for a announcement on the much rumored ZOS game, but I guess not. Maybe next year. There is also Quakecon, but nah.
