whatever it is, i can’t wait… i love indy and machine games
I could not disagree more with this, all the things you mentioned is what makes Indiana Jones great to me. Last year I played Emperor’s Tomb and it was very fun, the hand to hand combat was fun, throwing folks around, through objects is always fun. I wish that canned game had come to fruition, the one where there’s footage of him on a SF train I believe.

“I’ve now taken the next big step, which is to join MachineGames as Design Director on Indiana Jones,” he said in a statement.
“This is also redemption. When I accepted the offer to go to San Francisco in 2009, it was to lead the design on an Indiana Jones game, but that game got cancelled before I even got there.
“Now, I get a chance to do what I originally hoped to, but this time I get to do it with some of my oldest and best friends. Joining MachineGames is like coming home – amazing people I worked with during Riddick and Darkness, but also teeming with new ones, whose talent daily blow me away.”
He added: “I’m so excited about what we are building, and the way we get to do it – featuring one of most iconic characters ever, in collaboration with my friends at Lucasfilm (hi Craig!), published by one the biggest publishers in the world, and doing it at an amazing studio like MachineGames.
Sounds like good stuff is cooking with Indiana Jones.
So much first person energy
Yeah, I wouldn’t be shocked if it really is. It would be disappointing (for me) because I just want a Indiana Jones game to be third person, but it’s not something we can control and if it is, I’m sure it can be a great game still.
Yeah, I can see Indiana Jones being first person. UGH. Won’t be surprised if that ends up being the case.
This is almost guaranteed at this point. Imagine something like TES6 + Halo next + Forza Horizon + COD as day 1 launch titles for the next gen Xbox, all game pass day 1.
Ideally it has optional first person like Emperor’s Tomb, or like some parts such as driving, puzzles maybe in first person but overall exploration, combat, climbing, swinging with rope etc third person.
It seems that the moment we’ll find out is still far away, lmfao.
PS5 was more or less planned for 2028 according to Sony, wasn’t it? Xbox around that time too. Assuming development on TES VI starts immediately after Starfield, we could be seeing it in 2027, four years to make. But they probably won’t go all in on TES VI immediately, Starfield will undoubtedly get expansions too. A next gen launch indeed is very plausible.
Jesus christ, how many years after the official announcement would that be? I don’t think that has ever happened before with a game, has it?
I agree to an extent but the quote from Todd that this IP is so character focused I think leaves the door open for a 3rd person game even if Machine Games are solely a first person shooter studio as of now, if they were ever gonna make the experiment/leap of going 3rd person this is the perfect time to do it.
Also really intrigued by the unique quote from Todd. It’s gonna be a long wait for this one but I believe that it will be worth it, MG is a very talented studio and dare I say quite underrated too.
Good point. And Todd has always favored his games having a third person camera too. He’s a fan of it. Not that this means something perse, if MG doesn’t want to do it, they won’t I’m sure.
I wonder how long it has been in development now. The announcement was 2020 I think?
No one pays a licence for an IP and then not have 99% of its iconic recognition visible, and the IP holder will not want that either. On top of that, Indy’s characteristics mostly warrant 3rd person because the shooting would be very minimal, focus more on puzzles, platforming, melee, and the whip. People work from 1st person games to 3rd person games, it’s not unheard of.
Their games were rated pretty highly but the commercial success wasn’t the best. But damn did they make some banging games
Plenty of cutscenes can show him though, but I hope you’re right.
This will be the Top Gun Maverick of Indiana Jones. So hyped for the game.
Note that I’m NOT saying Riddick is on par with Indiana Jones in terms of how iconic the character is, but the Chronicles of Riddick features a character with some unique visual flairs, yet it is indeed first person. And now that we’ve learned that that game’s director is design director on Indy… Well, personally I think it’s an indicator that the first person crowd may be right.
I understand where it’s coming from, I’m just thinking about how unlikely I it is based on the characteristics of the character/IP and the importance of IP and brand recognition in today’s age as well as the commercial/financial realities of AAA games today. Riddick was a great game but it didn’t have to deal with all that exists today.
