Xbox Game Studios |OT10| Here are the games

I think there was a bit of disappointment about Redfall after the initial reveal but it seems a lot of negativity around the game has been amplified, even after it got mostly glowing previews. You could tell when certain places either focused on the few slightly negative reviews or the fact that bad news around the game garners nearly double the amount of pages than previews and trailers of the game.

I’ve stopped caring about online discourse around the platform but unfortunately for Redfall as it’s a AAA exclusive, it’s going to be compared to the new Zelda and Final Fantasy and should Redfall’s review average land in the mid 70’s, while Zelda and Final Fantasy receive much higher scores, you know the Xbox brand is going to get another wave of concern and negativity online.

Please stop focusing only on the console side That’s the problem a lot of people stop thinking about only the f****** consoles this ecosystem is becoming more than just that I think a lot of people need to remember that if Xbox gets beat up by PlayStation who cares at this point they’ll have more active users that’s what matters

I’m personally enjoying Ghostwire Tokyo and that game got hammered too by the critics. I can’t bring myself to care anymore about Metacritic and such, too many games I enjoyed were destroyed by critics. I’m just gonna launch Game Pass, download these games and have fun.

To me, Game Pass is great because it finally let players decide by themselves if they enjoy something or not, and devs can get more creative again.

I think the performance problems of AAA multiplats on Xbox are a valid concern tbh. It’s not just about exclusives, it’s about everything else.

And this problem is exacerbated when the PS5 massively outsells the Series X in particular. Devs give the X zero love (in that respect I applaud Capcom for spending some time on improving the Series X version of RE4). It basically gets tougher & tougher to recommend an Xbox to potential buyers when all comparisons say “the PS5 is better!”. I don’t know what can be done about this. It certainly won’t help the Xbox brand if Microsoft shifts their focus onto PC either.

Okay I understand but dude you got to remember if you look at every game that technically does look better or play better on PS5 remember those games have marketing rights Jedi survivor right now has problems on both sides none are really better than the other so the whole it runs better on PS5 yeah there’s something behind that and I’m pretty sure it’s money why that is

I dont understand this. It’s an enthusiast forum. I’m not selectively bringing negative or positive things. I’m relaying information about Xbox’s next AAA game. If it’s negative it’s because it’s negative, not because I’m searching for it.

Why can’t we talk about the evidence in front of us? If you think it’s flimsy or don’t believe Colt’s source that’s fine but don’t take it out on me for wanting to bring Xbox news to the Xbox forum.

I don’t disagree. Not after Callisto Protocol’s ‘suspect’ performance issues on Xbox when Sony helped with development (& Sony themselves emphasised the importance of Digital Foundry comparisons in their protests about the Activision merger).

But there’s nothing Xbox can do to fix that except sell more consoles & increase Xbox’s market share. Otherwise these complaints will remain toothless. There’s no authority with can fix deliberately borked Xbox releases & there’s no incentive for devs to spend more time on the Xbox version when their game sells more on the PS5. It’s a vicious circle & perfect storm.

It’s just my impression but I believe the Series X was getting more care from third party devs in its first 18 months tbh. The performance gap & sales gap seems more than just coincidental.

That’s my thing let Xbox worry about that but the one thing I will say about the whole market share crap in the Salem or Xboxes dude we’re in a new generation after the last one was PlayStation heavy for a decade it’s going to take a good while to convince those people to go to Xbox again the only reason people are buying a damn PS5 is cuz PS4 a large portion the game community now has grown from that generation it’s going to take them a good while and to start that is what is going to happen with redfall with starfilled with a hell blade consistent AAA games and we’re now seeing that this year proves that in the last thing I’m not looking any more of this red fall stuff because I’m tired of people talking about positive with the game and then all of a sudden changing their tune even though everybody else is being positive but you want to be negative about the f****** game

redfall could’ve received great reviews and performances on consoles and that wouldn’t stop people to be feeling ‘cencerned’ about ‘drought’ and all on this thread.

I’ve got Redfall pre-installed via Game Pass so I’ll be there day one. If it’s good, I’ll tell anyone who wants to hear. If not… there’s other stuff to play anyway.

As for the bigger picture of Xbox at the moment, everyone has an opinion so here’s mine: Microsoft has made a few mistakes, one of them was quite obvious & should have been corrected immediately: a new Xbox generation should not be released at the same time as the PlayStation’s next gen system. They said themselves Xbox has a very small share of the market versus PS5 so no need to go head-to-head. Xbox should IMO be the power console (which it was in 2001). It means wait & release a year after the PlayStation.

This has two advantages: they get to release a more powerful system for the same price & on top of this the console can brute force its way to better multiplat performance. This is what happened when the One X was released a year after the PS4 Pro. Unfortunately it was too late in the gen to make a big dent but IMO Xbox has to be about power.

I don’t like seeing the Series X with worse performance in a game like Jedi Survivor, that’s for sure.

Something else that was interesting from that video was Colt ‘heard’ Microsofts technology group was was caught unaware by the 30fps cap and are trying to expedite the 60fps issue.

If true, I really have to wonder how that even happens so late in the peice. Im not glooming, just find it interesting if that truly is the case.

To be honest, it does strike me a last minute critical issue

It makes sense since 60fps IS planned - it seems like it’s just an issue of time now that they are in the final polishing phase. I’d guess it was simply a choice of prioritise a slightly smaller feature set and hit their current launch date or delay the game. Hopefully this should mean that the game itself is in a reasonably good state since they’ve made this decision for that purpose, but if they are so pushed for time to have to make this kind of decision it’s hard not to worry all the same.

Dude this is you a few posts above…dooming and glooming, predicting metascores and talking about bad PR (with a skull emote too lol) because Colt said “I heard something”.

So far the facts about Redfall are:

  • The game is out tomorrow, you can play it and judge for yourself if it’s great or not. If you choose to be influenced by the media/reviews then it’s your fault.
  • Arkane has an amazing track record so far so let’s give them the benefit of the doubt, shall we?
  • Even if Redfall ends up with a 70’s metascore and/or won’t deliver this is not the end for Xbox, Bethesda and Arkane Austin.

Prey has a freakin’ 79% metascore and anyone who has played the game can tell you that this score is complete and utter BS so yeah even if the game gets a 78 metascore who the fuck cares? most reviewers don’t do a good job at reviewing games with emergent gameplay/immersive sim aspects in their design because those games aren’t designed with rushed playthroughs in mind and we are living in a world where reviews MUST hit the first second the embargo ends…add (or I should say remove?) the Xbox tax (x2 because of the negative aura that surrounds the game) and you end up with most likely a metascore that won’t reflect the game’s quality anyway. :person_shrugging:

That was their predictions, it’s what they said. Not to mention if low 70’s isn’t a big deal, why is that dooming?

Edit: look I don’t really want to spend my Sunday arguing about why some Xbox news is off limits on the Xbox forum. I know a lot of people are jaded by negativity but there’s no point trying to avoid some of this stuff. By all means don’t agree with it, but to avoid it totally feels antithetical to the forum. So I’ll just say I’m sorry if I upset anyone and leave it there.

You were the one who posted that with a skull emote and you’re asking me why is that dooming? for real? lol

Also Colt saying “someone told me” is not “Xbox news” or “evidence” of anything so stop trying to make a big deal out of something that is in the best case scenario a single opinion from someone who we don’t even know who it is to even discuss if this opinion is worth anything. I’ve supported, played and loved all the previous Arkane games, I know what to expect from Redfall gameplay/design wise (thanks to Harvey Smith’s interviews) and I have the game already pre-loaded, so no offense but who cares what Colt or Gaz says? :person_shrugging:

A few posts above you said that this is an enthusiast forum so let’s start being enthusiastic about videogames and be less concerned about youtube clickbait and twitter drama.

I don’t care much for giving numbers to games, but Prey overall was easily a 8.5 but probably actually a 9, loved it. I keep preying for a sequel.

When I try to predict metascores I do just that, predict where I think it will land. Not giving it a personal score.

Do I think this (as a lot of Xbox games) will get a MC score below what it really should have? Of course.

Prey was definitely a fantastic game which should gain more attention from all gamers. I even enjoy the rogue lite Mooncrash DLC.

My only problem is the name. I’m still dreaming of Human Head’s Prey 2.
