Xbox Game Studios |OT| Halo...is it me you’re looking for?

(2/3) But people are should get ready for the really real possibility that the PS5 is going to end up being the more expensive console between the two, I'm trying not to say much here as I was asked not to but prepare yourself, which does put Xbox X in a position it'll be the

(3/3)the less expensive and more powerful console. I used RE8 as an example, but I've heard from other devs that PS5 struggles with 4k games in particular so you'll see a lot of fake 4k. That doesn't matter to some, but get ready for that too. Xbox X doesn't have the same problem

Oh boy Dusk Golem loves to set the internet on fire

With how well Grounded has done, I was hoping MS would make a grab at devs like Unknown Worlds (Subnautica) and Mobius Digital (Outer Wilds)

I think that small developers prefer to be independent than to be part of big companies. Also Microsoft should go with medium size - big ones for this last Acquisitions. I personally want Remedy and Smilegate (the studio of smilegate in Spain have the writer of horizon zero dawn for an unknown open World game). Also there’s still the japanese thing to work into + a chinese studio would work in the future, the chinese studios are getting stronger. Will be a mistake to not have one of those.

There’s a reason MS have two consoles, next-gen consoles are and will be expensive (with cutting edge tech inside). The XSS is their way to compensate that somewhat.

Yea… it doesn’t really make sense to grab really tiny devs. You could just as easily acquihire the people. In fact, the lead writer for Outer Wilds (the wife of the main couple duo… wait or sister?.. I think wife), joined Obsidian after both games released. I mean… a lot cheaper, a lot easier, and still very effective in bringing new talented people into the org.

Oh damn… Well, I hope he’s prepared for the incoming shitstorm

Remedy isn’t a mid sized developer and honestly acquiring them would do more harm then good. They’re essentially a Dollar Store version of Naughty Dog and their games aren’t worth the time and development cost to make and never commercially do well.

I don’t want them to get a Japanese studio, rather them do a second party deal like they had with Platinum before the entire Scalebound debacle happened.

Compulsion was a small developer, maybe like 40 people, and are growing. A smaller independent studio 40-50-ish people can be built up and would make games perfect for Game Pass

True. Also Microsoft really have a big problem with games for the Asian market. All of the xbox studios appeal for the west. A chinese studio for example, should be a must for xcloud in China. And the japanese markets it’s their own thing. If they are going for their last studios, half of what they will buy should be studios that appeal for China / Japan and Korea. And the other half studios in the european union (asobo, bloober and remedy).

I can agree with you in regards to the game being polished and whatnot plus the traversal helped them with Spider Man. The game itself just didn’t appeal to me right from the start. As for Ubisoft, they’re my number one developer and publisher. Super hyped for Valhalla. WD Legion not as much and hyped for Far Cry 6 especially since they gave the protagonist a voice again thankfully. Ubisoft games aren’t the most polished whatsoever but outside of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, I never had any major issues with the 18 games I have played from them this generation in regards to bugs and whatnot. Quality wise, I had a few 9’s, several 8’s, a few 7’s and a few 6’s for the generation. Ubisoft is far from perfect but I do love and enjoy the majority of their franchises.

Valhalla will be the best or second best visually looking game on Series X come November. Only Cyberpunk will rival or surpass it. If the rumors end up being true, im truly hoping it’s Ubisoft that Microsoft worked out a deal with to put their games on Game Pass day one. I would be super hyped!!!

For anyone who’s hoping that Microsoft acquires Remedy, you can kiss that dream goodbye as they signed a multi-game deal with Epic months ago and when you look over the deal, seriously, it’s almost like free money for Remedy. LOL.

Not surprised by what Dusk Golem has been saying. There’s a reason why Sony is paying for a lot of multi-platform games. It’s because head to head, their version is going to get slaughtered more and more as the generation progresses.

Price wise, I have said since the PS5 showcase that Digital will be $500 and Disc will be $600. I’m sticking with it. Series X will be $500 and Series S will be $300.

The games of remedy never go commercially well because Microsoft have a big problem with marketing. Of the several ips Microsoft tried in their 3 generations, which ones got good sales? The ones that had mp. Why was that? Because the mp made the marketing that Microsoft couldn’t make. Without a japanese studio, they are not going to increase their sales or users in japan, same with the chinese market. Both countries are their own thing. In japan Sony and nintendo are going to kick xbox out until they have things that appeal for the japanese market. In China it’s the same with tencent. Making small games for the sicke of making them even if it’s for gamepass woudn’t help Microsoft. If the studios want to make small games, it’s ok, if you want them or Microsoft wants them to make small games because gamepass, then thats not going to work.

Probably the deal between remedy and epic will make the games of remedy exclusives in epic games store only in pc. That means that their games are going to be in xbox and playstation too. Microsoft can make the deal and keep the exclusivity with epic games store and also launch the games on xbox only.

True but the difference is that they would be owned by Microsoft. They want to stay independent. The Epic deal allows them to stay Independent, keep all their IP’s, received a bunch of money up front and will get a high percentage off game sales. At this point, I just don’t see it happening.

That and they’re not very good. Microsoft had nothing to do with Control either and that game wasn’t exactly doing numbers sales wise either

There are already a ton of Japanese developers that MS can do deals with, I don’t see the benefit of straight up owning a Japanese or a Chinese studio. For what exactly? If they want to make a Lost Odyssey sequel I’m sure there are quality Japanese developers they can work out a deal with.

I’m not saying that might happen, but instead that i would love to see it happening. That said, everything depends in the deal, remedy woudn’t be very upset if in the deal they have creative freedom. They are already working with Microsoft in crossfire, maybe that makes them thing about it.

Okay, gotcha. Just have to wait and see if that ever happens.

The good thing about remedy is that they know how to make good games with small budget. Control was made with 30 million euros. Microsoft can keep that kind of budgets and increase it by each game and with a better marketing. They are not a bad deal. The deals with japanese studios has not worked in 3 generations, why would it work now? If i remember right, a developer of platinum said that xbox doesnt understand anything about the japanese market. Everything feels so eccentric for the japanese costumers, even things like the achievements have a very bad translation. Microsoft need japanese minds to leadership xbox in japan and make the Brand closer to the japanese costumers and developers. Same thing with china. Microsoft are trying to make the same thing that they make for the western markets in Asia, and thats not going to work.

I haven’t played Gears Tactics (don’t have a good PC) but it seems gorgeous and I’m really excited to try it.

Now that Halo Infinite is gone, I hope MS will heavily promote this game as one of their major launch games once they start the marketing machine. I mean, even if it’s not a traditional Gears, it still has the Gears name (and I feel that they didn’t promote that much Gears Tactics for its PC release, am I correct ? I really feel it has flown under the radar)

It was even missing from the Xbox Games Showcase despite this game being a good opportunity to show some XSX gameplay…

I have zero marketing skill, but If I was MS with a war chest, I would buy TONS of TV and Internet ads with a glorious trailer showing

  • Gears Tactics

  • Cyberpunk 2077 (marketing rights)

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (marketing rights)

  • The Medium

  • Forza Horizon 4 (because it still looks so good)

  • Flight Simulator (if ready for launch)

  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon ?

and emphasis on having the cheapest entry to next-gen with the Series S and Gamepass (over 100 games ready to play). Also talk about All Access ("starting at 25 dollars per month…) if you have enough retailers supporting the program.

Sony’s marketing machine is a monster. And you can be sure that they will use Spiderman, FIFA and COD a lot (and it will be very efficient). MS has to be on the same level, if not better, especially since they don’t have Halo anymore.

I don’t know about the US, but their marketing in Europe was… almost non-existent in my eyes ? I always see tons of PS4 and Switch ads (on TV, on Internet…), almost zero for Xbox. When you are the challenger and are called Microsoft, it’s just not acceptable.

MS’s marketing machine needs a BIG shakeup. And they need to spend a lot more in this sector.

I’ve played Gears Tactics and am in marketing. It’s tied for my GOTY with Ori but I need to be honest, it’s niche. It’s a brutal, grueling but fast and tactical SRPG. It has great loot, an amazing gameplay loop, and looks great zoomed in but is mostly isometric. It’s not a hardware showcase and that is reflected in the system requirements, it’s just a damn good game that may not be for everyone. Still the cutscenes would look good (if misleading) in a sizzle.

Flight Sim needs to be expedited to launch if possible. Don’t make Asobo crunch. Just hire a porting house to help. Even if it means delaying the One version, it is a visual masterwork even if again niche.

From there, Xbox should push the hell out of Cyberpunk, Madden, The Medium, Falconeer and try to get marketing for Outriders and Batman.

They bet the farm on Halo and they bet poorly. Now is time for them to put down what little chips they have and hope to god it pays off. At this point, what’s the harm?

And agreed. If their traditional marketing was even a third as good as their social media market is, they wouldn’t be trailing behind PlayStation 2:1.

Yes, they should acquire the marketing rights for Madden too (since it will be upgraded for Series X and PS5). Would help in the US.

Will I like Gears Tactics if I loved a lot Halo Wars 2 ? I read that the controls were a little more complicated. Could they adapt these to a controller or it will still require a mouse and a keyboard ?
