I am not sure how serious Microsoft is about possibly going after WB Games, but I honestly don’t think that the TikTok thing has much to do with the other not happening in terms of money. The price of WB Games is going to be far lower than what they would pay out for TikTok regardless, and you have to believe that one of the factors in them looking at a growing social media platform with a younger audience could include advertising of subscription services or integration with Xbox and Game Pass for example at some point. So content for your service is going to be a driving force regardless if they want to make Game Pass the focus going forward.
How are people doing the Twitter embeds properly on posts like this?
I agree completely. While I don’t think a WB acquisition is a guarantee by any means, I think it’s clear MS are at least strongly considering it. I also don’t think an acquisition of TikTok lowers the chances of this acquisition, and in fact, may increase the possibility. The overall cost of acquiring WB would be relatively small in comparison, and the two acquisitions would strengthen MS in areas they’re looking to grow in.
Just post the tweet directly don’t try and embed it
I think even Jez said something like Tiktok potential acquisition is completely separated from the situation with WB. Like you said, Tiktok could be a great way for Xbox to advertise their services to a younger audience, while Instagram and Facebook could focus on a more mature audience.
Microsoft has a lot of money, buying TikTok doesn’t mean that Xbox will suffer in terms of spending power.
Ditto! Can’t tell you how excited I am to be able to follow and comment in an Xbox centric forum again. I think we all have enough drama in our lives right now so having a positive place to discuss Xbox, be excited, and constructively criticize (when it makes sense to) is awesome.
When I have more time and not completely bushed from an insane day of work, I want to list all the teams we haven’t heard from in awhile and what/why I’m excited to see what they’ve been cooking. It really is one of the best periods for Xbox IMO.
Yep, if MS doesn’t acquire WB, I don’t think it’ll necessarily be due to the cost, but rather what they are/aren’t going to get for it i.e. licensing of the ip’s. I could see them thinking it worth it regardless, but it’s got to be more enticing if they can lock down the batman ip for several years.
Okay, thanks for that.
Excited to be involved in primarily Xbox discussion! This month will be an interesting month for Xbox news, it looks like lol
Personally, I want Microsoft to acquire WB Games with OR without the licenses. Honestly, I don’t care which. Just get WB Games.
Great to have this forum here and see a lot of recognisable names.
This so much. I know that little is better than nothing, but I’m not and we shouldn’t be satisfied with the actual japanese support. I don’t see the logic behind the newest Guilty Gear missing Xbox again, and that’s a quite famous fighting game!
When you look to the original Xbox and the Xbox 360 , the Japan support it had and compare to nowadays it’s just ridiculous. They (Xbox) MUST build something or acquire a studio there, or honestly nothing will change.
(Also, how you fixed your name? I hate that “_” on my nickname here haha)
What are the chances MS actually acquires WB? Percentage wise.
Is MS’s big hope to combat Sonys killer 1P and obviously aggressive (I have to admit, its effective) 3P exclusive strategy by building an unmatched 1P studio roster? Is MS willing to invest more than Sony in the gaming space right now?
Curious what you all think.
25% chance. Take-Two, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard also want WB Games. The latest news I’ve seen is EA is stepping up to let it be known they want WB Games
I say it’s 50/50 between Microsoft and EA unless another company comes out of nowhere. Benji-Sales believes that EA will get it but also said that if Microsoft truly wants WB, no one will outbid them. My doubt comes with the fact that I don’t believe Microsoft truly wants them. I do however truly believe that they want that TikTok shit but whatever. SMH.
I do believe that Microsoft is far from done in regards to acquisitions. I’m hoping they can acquire Techland and wouldn’t mind seeing them acquire Bloober Team, Asobo (even though they have a single game contract with Focus), The Astronauts (who are currently developing Witchfire which im interested in) and of course, WB Games. Excluding WB, Techland is really the only AAA studio out of what I posted.
They definitely need at least two more AAA studios. I understand needing content at a steady rate for Game Pass but at the same time, need to ensure that the quality ratio is much higher than not.
Microsoft acquiring WB Games would depend on the licenses in regards to Sony. If they get DC but they must be multi-platform, then in my eyes, it defeats the purpose. If exclusive to the Xbox platform, then they would definitely have great licenses in Batman, LOTR and MK. I know the MK license comes with the WB purchase in of itself but the rest would have to be licensing deals.
I do believe that Microsoft should be much more aggressive. If it was up to me, instead of paying for all these timed exclusives, I would go right to Take Two/Rockstar and say, “name your price” for GTA 6 exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC. No matter the cost, Microsoft would easily make it all back and dwarf everything Sony would do combined.
Granted, that’s definitely not happening but that’s the kind of deals that Microsoft needs to pull off because it seems like Sony always gets the better deals.
Add in for example, GTA 6 online (eventually) and it’s all free to play on Series X/S since Gold is expected to be gone very soon and it’s easy return on investment for Microsoft.
Awesome thread and post! Neat to have all of this in one place.
Could be cool to also have a section that lists up and coming titles (that have release dates) near the top.
Glad to be here! Great thread and I cant wait to be active around here
Wooo an OT! Looking forward to seeing this community grow
