It wouldn’t be easy enough to continually add content with a split like that. People would definitely not remain subscribed long term.

They would have 3 months, 6 months and 12 months options that could reduce the cost, along with an overall price increase on games. Starfield premium edition has over 200,000 active players on steam right now and that edition is $100. Granted some people got it for free with AMD but still, I can’t see brand new games staying $70 forever with the way inflation is going. I see games at least going up to $80 this generation for the standard editions, it’s easier to justify a $20 price bump for early access editions if the standard is $80.
Also the amount of things you can do in modern games is insane. The world’s are huge, you can spend hundreds of hours playing these games. I’m currently playing Starfield and I have no plans to stop for the next few months, $100 is a decent amount of money to put down on one game which I just did, but I could see a lot of people who aren’t that great with their money going for smaller tiers of game pass based off genre of what they want to play.
I don’t really see the correlation between game prices and splitting the subscription by genre. Is the intent to keep the prices down on the sub?

The intent would be to get subscribers who would otherwise not pay for games to become a game pass subscriber, along with ads in the service which would substantially increase the ROI for Microsoft. Games are getting more expensive and this could be a great way to split costs for people who don’t want to play for games up front, look at how big the shop now pay over time market for example. Make it like shop now pay over time but include ads would make tons of money.
If call of duty standard edition was $80-100 every year for a lot of people getting the subscription would be the better option, it could also include online access as part of paying for any tier of game pass.

I took a couple of hours break from Starfield to try the latest Party Animals beta and it’s definitely feeling a lot better to play since the first one, so looks like they’ve tweaked something. Had a lot of fun with it. Coupled with the stages and the graphics, it should be a hit.
