I know Covid played a big part in increasing subscriptions but when I look between Gears 5 and the second half of 2021, there was nothing there and they still had a massive increase. With a packed second half of 2021, I would be surprised if it’s not past 30m minimum.
The next earning call is next month, so perhaps we’ll hear some info. It’ll be interesting to see the sales on Series consoles.
Hope Demon Slayer come to Game Pass soon like the other Sega games.
In SEGA’s latest financial report, they mention several times how Xbox Game Pass has allowed them to grow their IPs, particularly Yakuza. Now, if they were smart, Atlus would do the same thing with Persona, but I guess not.
It’s like Atlus is keeping them hostage, even from the parent company. Well, time will tell. Let 2022 be the year of surprises. Good one, of course.
Wonder Labyrinth: Record of Lodoss War is pretty amazing wtf. Was missing a game like this since Momodora 4: RutM , really lovely pixel art, solid gameplay with cool ass abilites and interesting boss battles, good music. I’m impressed
I cannot imagine Xbox not having tried this, knowing how popular this game is and will be and since they have billions to spend for Game Pass…
But it seems doubtful, sadly and I guess Bamco just said nah. Hope some other big pubs say yes this year though. Xbox is willing to spend…bigtime.
I love how fluid it feels to play. I was saying a couple weeks ago that the game is crazy solid, seriously took me by surprise.
That’s a big if, also we know MS paid for the initial Yakuza ports and then the series grew in popularity thanks to the esposition coming from GP and it releases on Xbox day and date globally, a thing never happened before. I can’t fathom why they aren’t even trying with Atlus, it’s almost three years from the beginning of the new strategic alliance with SEGA (E3 2019) and there are ZERO signs of Atlus joining the party.
Maybe their math shows significantly less ROI from Atlus JRPGs than Yakuza games and the cost doesn’t justify it.
Correct me if I’m wrong. But don’t all of the mainline Yakuza games take place in the same city? If so that would probably be more cost efficient. Or am I just making things up
For the game development itself, but I assume that shouldn’t impact ports at all since they should use the same ones.
Might help that many Yakuza games already had PC releases though.
It was fantastic… But grrrrr stupid broken “Unlock all achievements” achievement. It’s the only one I need which means I just have to pray they patch it. At least it’s only 5G.
What math can you realistically apply? Last Atlus game was on Xbox 360, also when they paid for Yakuza what kind of math applied? A japanese super focused series never on Xbox before, apparently was a certain failure (also according to fanboys) and yet…
If I was asked to estimate the sales of an Xbox port of Persona 5 I would start with the sales of another JRPG and extrapolate. Let’s say FF15 had an 80/20 sales split between. PS and Xbox. If we apply that sales split to the 3.X million copies of Persona 5 sold you end up with 600+k. How does that compare to porting costs?
I know it isn’t perfect and they have more data and people who actually do this for a living, but I gotta imagine math like this is done for all of these deals.
Wait, have we really not had a single Atlus game since Xbox 360? Damn lol! I never even considered that.
I believe Gamepass will create a trend where it peaks in Dec-Jan and avg out in rest of the year. So far since 2020 Xbox has released note worthy games in the end of the year.
We may see Gamepass numbers in January again.
Started mortal shell a few days ago and almost dropped it after an hour because its pretty difficult(found it worse the fromsoft games to start) but once it clicks it’s pretty damn fun. If you’re into those sorts of games I would recommend it but try watching a few videos or reading some articles just so you can figure out the basics because there enough differences that make your play style different enough to a souls game.
Any day now for the new list of games, right?
Leaving soon:
