We don’t know what xbox strategy is. Just bc Sony does it one way doesn’t mean Xbox follows.
Same people are praises Sony and Nintendo for their amazing exclusives.
Thanks!
That makes sense Xbox wouldn’t have much knowledge of future timed exclusives back in 2018. Also true it would be really hard to reach a deal for such a high price and still not be exclusive.
To MS, other platforms is Steam, PC etc. That’s thier idea of multi. This is referenced by the fact Sea of thieves isnt on Nintendo or PS platforms.
I refuse to believe MS would be this dumb. It’s literally the only thing that makes me believe it’s bullshit.
They are literally selling every Series console they can manufacture right now. This will probably slow down early next year, just when the acquisition is final. A clear statement and new announcements would boost their sales after launch excitement dies down. They can’t be foolish enough to ignore this.
Its growing xbox gamepass and the xbox brand. You do that with exclusives.
It would absolutely kill any confidence in the Xbox brand also.
This would really be a terrible idea. Then it would set up the idea that every future Bethesda game would come to PS5. Then people would not invest in Xbox/Game Pass because they would hold out for a potential PS5 release of any Bethesda game. Its literally deterring people away from the eco system.
There isn’t going to be a case by case basis. If the next Bethesda game after Deathloop and Ghostwire is exclusive then all of them will be. There isn’t any reason why MS would choose to make some games ei Dishonored, Doom, Wolfenstein as exclusives but then make TES6, Starfield multiplatform. Its either going to be all or nothing
It is but people like to needlessly over complicate things for some reason
Yep, I remember Alanah Pearce hypocrisy and her and others holding Xbox to an entirely different standard than Playstation, as if Xbox owes something and needs to make their games multiplatform and subtly demonizing them for making games exclusive.
Their goal is to grow the ecosystem and Game Pass, the strategy will always revolve around those and selling games on the PS5 does not help MS achieve their goal but in fact deters from it ei its counter productive to what they want.
Also it makes zero sense from a business perspective, if MS was going to put games like TES6 and Starfield on PS5 solely because they want sales from that platform, they may as well put ALL of their games on the PS5 so they can get sales.
Agreed! But keep in mind that probably a lot of work has been done on the PS5 version. Would Phil just tell the devs to quit working on it and basically people have been working on it for nothing? I guess that’s how business works, but damn. Yeah, Starfield absolutely should be shown and announced as Xbox and PC only. No vague words, no non answers etc.
Every new game from their new studios is Xbox exclusive. No reason that should change for zenimax when they become XGS studios.
We need to stop worrying and just see how it goes. We won’t necessarily know how things are going even after the deal is officially signed sealed and delivered. We also won’t know if things are going to start one way then slowly transition to another way. In 2013 we had no idea that eventually everything was going to be on PC. In 2015 we had no idea everything would soon be available day one on a service called “Gamepass”. In 2017 we had no idea that things were eventually going to be all on Steam as well as WinStore.
Trying to guess what things will be like and argue angrily with each other about it won’t change anything and serves no purpose. Even if they announce tomorrow “Starfield is coming to PS5” and people have meltdowns about that because they are strongly emotionally attached to the notion of it being an Xbox exclusive… even that wouldn’t mean that TES6 and every other Beth game is coming to PS5, whether because their strategy is fluid and can change, or because they might be, as they already said, evaluating on a case by case basis.
Best for everyone to assume that whatever they don’t want to happen in this ambiguous situation is possible and then learn to live with that in peace. Maybe you get what you actually want, maybe you don’t. Even if you guess correctly that doesn’t mean the other options were never possible or that you’re a 1000 iq genius for being right about it one time.
They paid premium for ZeniMax 7.5B, so no there is no deal state the games to remain multiplatform. this is not complete freedom over the things you own at all lol
Take it down a notch.
Hopefully move them over to the other versions and get the game done faster lol
Its possible they went to Microsoft first, but the selling price tells me there was more than one potential buyer involved and Microsoft outbid them all. And for 7.5 billions you don’t attach other strings to that like some multiplattform clause.
Sony are going to also be acquiring studios and it’s a given none of thier games will go to Xbox. MS at some point need to care about thier ecosystem and putting games on the PS5, just weakens this
For everything Xbox has done right over the last few years, messaging has not been one of their strong suits. Phil really needs to clarify once the deal is finalized.
If starfield releases in 2021 I can see Xbox releasing on PS after some timed exclusivity as there will have lots of dev work done already and the potential sequel to starfield being full exclusive (however late that is). If it is a 2022 release it will probably be a full Xbox exclusive IMO. All other games Zenimax should be exclusive as there won’t be much fuss about them unlike the Bethesda games. (Xbox appears to be almost scared about public backlash ever since the tomb raider deal unlike Sony who continues to make these exclusivity deals without bother)
But honestly Xbox need to be a bit more ruthless if they want to grow aggressively. Double down on exclusivity, beat Sony at its own game, deliver more AAA exclusive content and the growth will follow. They already have people from Netflix working for them, so they know how to push the subscription model, they just need to deliver on it now.
I wonder what stops Microsoft from taking away Minecraft from PS, agreement that can’t be broken with Mojang? These are the sort of moves you’d see companies like apple and google make.
You think that’s sadistic, if I ran MS I would dangle the carrot of “case by case” multi-platform Bethesda titles until E3 where I’d announce every single game as Xbox exclusive, one by one. Look, MS needs their E3 megaton moments and this could be a good 3-4 in a row.
Haha that’d be funny, Xbox needs a really strong E3 2022 as Sony will be bringing HZD gameplay and GOW reveal. Xbox hopefully gives us fable, Hellblade, Starfield gameplay with Todd onstage?
Minecraft is definitely the anomaly, its a service based game that has the most active players on Earth. That definitely isn’t a fair comparison to primarily single player games that don’t rely on having a large user base
Its the same reason why MS won’t take Fallout 76 and TESO off the PS4/5
