Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase announced for Sunday June 12 at 10 a.m. PT + Xbox Games Showcase Extended on June 14th at 10am PT (Spoiler Free)

They don’t have much coming out in 2022 is what I mean, they’ll have to spend a lot of time on 2023 games.

We don’t quite know that yet, one would hope they got a couple of games, if not its pretty poor.

I think there will be 2022 games.

They will likely have a couple of games, that still isn’t much though. Not enough that you wouldn’t need to focus on 2023 games.

What? You either have games or you don’t have them.

Not having much doesn’t equal not having anything…

If Xbox has a classic trifecta - Halo addon, Gears remake and Forza - it will be a pretty solid Xbox One inspired year :joy:

A 2022 focused show would be what, 10 minutes long?

They wish game development was as predictable as movie production

This is what I want!

Considering how unpredictable game dev, I am not sure if you can build roadmaps like this.

In the movie industry at least there are schedules as you have to use actors. Game dev is much more fluid.

Oh I know, but I wonder if they can put in some sort of buffer and over estimate as in say they think Fable is 2025 for example, maybe they could say it’s a 2026 title to build in some time for issues during dev. I guess they could give us estimated windows not actual release dates.

I guess they’ll be able to do this in the future when they have tons of studios fully settled in and finished all their other jobs. Maybe we get something like this in 2023/24.

Not happening

I think with release dates that are far out they should do release windows of 2-3 years. So if Elder Scrolls 6 was planning on 2025 it could be 2025-2028.

The problem is that when you specify the dates in game development, media and other people expect you to hit them. Like if you said Fable 2026, people will expect it in 2026 and some other games (third parties) might be in a situation where they plan their release dates for certain years, but then suddenly Microsoft releases some big name to cover a dry season. You also will have to design marketing around those dates. And just like we have seen with Starfield - even that is difficult.

I did like a discussion on Gamecast that maybe Microsoft might achieve Nintendo level of scheduling - keeping certain games in the buffer and move their release dates when necessary. Like for example game is ready, let’s keep it for a dry season. Or for example when one game is delayed, let’s replace it with another game. But for that Microsoft needs a rock solid first party - and that means more acquisitions is necessary - and just like Nintendo, they should stop relying on third parties.

I think seeing 2028 would just disappoint people

Maybe not if Elder Scrolls 6 turns out to be the best Elder Scrolls game Bethesda has ever done. Also if there are other games in between it would help worth the wait. Such as Starfield, Fable, Avowed, InXiles Steampunk RPG, Outer Worlds 2, whatever Blizzard is working on, etc
