Game Pass gets indie games every month. How many of those games were being featured during E3 showcase? It is well known that there are “premium” indies and regular indies, but I would argue that having smaller showcases on a regular basis is better than having minutes dedicated to smaller indies there as after the showcase people mostly discuss big games anyway.
Have a smaller show every month that features big games for this month - though we know that certainl deals happen quite late - with additional indie games that are gonna go into Game Pass this month.
I’d he surprised and disapointed if there’s no Indies this year. It’s not about whether or not they need them. It’s about continuing to send that message that they are a platform that supports and highlights games of all sizes. I also believe Indie games bring art styles and creative uniqueness that stand out differently from AAA games. I expect whatever Indies are shown to be the best of the best though…and be day 1 on Game Pass.
It is pretty obvious that we are gonna get indies there. The main thing is that we will probably get a lot of games that were shown last year as aside I think 1 or 2 of them, everything else haven’t been released yet (due to various issues).
Getting stuff like Hades was really cool, my main issue was though there were a lot of indies that haven’t been released yet and we are highly likely to see them again.
I think you don’t realize these showcases aren’t tailored to the actual “casual” players. By casual I mean my friends that play league of legends and fifa, those people don’t even know or care these shows are happening, they don’t even know what bethesda is, people that watch and anticipate these shows are very much beyond the “casual” definition in my opinion
I hope we see a little of something for everyone. Big, small, casual, hardcore. It’s what makes gaming fun, it’s one reason I love Xbox - its willingness to treat games as games and not put up artificial barriers in how they’re treated.
Some of the best games shown in last years showcase (and at SGF) were “indie” titles, and other games not from a major publisher/the first party studios - Replaced, Somerville, STALKER 2, The Planet of Lana, etc. Not to mention, they often provide pacing relief for these showcases - and broaden the genre and artistic design pallet of the show. I’d hate to see those kicked out of the showcase.
I think the reality we have to grapple with, is that even though they were previewed years ago - games like Everwild and Fable are probably not ready for big time gameplay blowouts right now. That’s okay, especially since Fable seems to be targeting 2024 anyway. Why does Xbox need to go big with games like Fable, when they have Starfield and Avowed and Pentiment for the next 12ish months?
Regardless, I don’t even agree that my predictions list was as indie focused as it seems to be characterized as. It had a few trailers for existing indie titles we know about, an id @ Xbox section, and a few Game Pass announcements for popular, smaller titles. Those are good things for a showcase, especially since they are paired with big announcements too
Ah, so casual gamers don’t know what skyrim is. And ppl don’t go to IGN or watch youtube or whatever.
Headlines and hype, which are things these showcases are supposed to create afterwards, don’t matter either and aren’t influential.
There’s a big difference between bethesda and indie games. Just look at how played Skyrim and Fallout are. Safe to say they are pretty mainsteam franchises. One of them has a Tv Show.
When you only have 1 show a year and a big chunk of it is dedicated to indies, the impression you leave is that you don’t have big stuff to show. Simple as that.
I think casual gamers dont know what elder scrolls is but they know what skyrim is. When Xbox bought bethesda I told her they have the elder scrolls and she was like whats that? Im like they make skyrim and its the 5th one. She knew skyrim but didn’t there were 5 ES games at that point
You are taking something I said, twisting it, and then countering it, that’s not a conversation. I didn’t say people don’t know what skyrim is, you said that, I said more gamers don’t know what bethesda is than do, I could even argue more gamers don’t know what skyrim is than do.
Again, gaming is much bigger than you apparently realize, this is a very small bubble of people that are really looking into the fine details and are up to date on most games coming out on every platform, literally today someone posted a tweet stating that cod mobile apparently has 650 million downloads, that’s three years that the game exists, how many of those 650 million people would you bet know what skyrim is? You think a 15 year old in india that only has access to a 20$ smartphone is reading IGN?
Also I literally never tried to compare bethesda games with indie games, just said shows like this have a specific audience that more than likely is interested in indies.
I believe each was given a ‘2022’ date, outside of STALKER 2 which was delayed for understandable reasons. I’m hoping those come out this year though - especially Replaced. That game oozes style
So if ppl don’t know what skyrim is(even tho is one of the most popular games ever made) how many are interested in sommervile? 2?
Thing is, even most gamers that know what bethesda, fallout and skyrim etc are, are interested in those type of games.
And that’s a fact. If it wasn’t like that you’d be seeing indie games with Skyrim or Fallout numbers and that’s one in a hundred million cases when planets align.
Tbh, I don’t know what you’re arguing here. What I’m saying is that indie games aren’t nowhere near as popular as other franchises and in its main event Xbox should showcase the big games they have since it’s one of the reason ppl will buy a certain console.
I’m arguing that people that are gonna watch the show are interested in indies, not that people that don’t know what bethesda is are interested in indies, that’s another argument you’re creating and winning.
Anyway that’s too much generalization and speculation, what I know for a fact is I haven’t seen anybody complain about “too many indies” about the 2021 E3 till now, so I imagine people won’t be bothered if they see 20 minutes worth of indies in a 90 minute show.
The show last year had almost universal praise or at least a hell of a lot more praise than hate and it featured a decent amount of indies from what I recall so yeah, that complaint is a first for me
Regardless, im expecting plenty of gameplay at this show with plenty of big titles there, going in expecting the show to be littered with only indie stuff seems incredibly unlikely
